• Definition: the energy possessed by an object
by virtue of its position related to other objects-
stored energy
• Examples:
• - Girl about to jump off a diving board
• - Ball at the top of a hill
• - Book leaning on a high shelf
Mechanical Kinetic • Definition: energy that an object has by
virtue of its motion
• Examples:
• - Bicycle at its top speed
• - Baseball thrown to another player
• - An engine spinning
Radiant•Definition: The energy of
electromagnetic radiation
•Examples:
• - The Sun
• - A microwave
• - A radio wave
Chemical•Definition: Energy stored in
the bonds of chemical
compounds
•Examples:
• - Food
• - Burning wood
• - Gasoline or oil
Electrical
•Definition: Energy made available
by the flow of an electric charge
through a conductor
