Section 2A – Program Revision Proposal Modular Curriculum Category: Arts & Humanities

Introduction: We would like to make the following changes:

1. Change prerequisites for SAMPLE 105

We would like to restrict students who haven’t passed SAMPLE 100 from registering for 105.

2. Change frequency offerings for SAMPLE 110

Due to John Berry going on Sabbatical we need to change the offerings to Variable until he returns.

3. Add a special topic to SAMPLE 390R

Students have requested for an Intermediate Sample class so we will trial it out as a 390R to see how it does and potentially turn it into a real course.

4. Create a new course SAMPLE 100

We already trialed SAMPLE 100 as a 390R course for 2 semesters and it has been very popular so we would like to create it as an actual course and provide it with a course number.

5. Change course number from SAMPLE 201 to SAMPLE 301

The amount of time spent in and out of class is more at a 300 level course than a 200 level course.

a. Deactivate SAMPLE 201

We will not be using 201 anymore as it will be changing to 301.

b. Make SAMPLE 201 equivalent to SAMPLE 301

For students who have already taken 201, it will still count as credit but any new students starting in the Fall will need to take 301.

6. Change the title, catalog entry and credit hours for SAMPLE 115

Make a minor change to the title and catalog entry to make it clearer for students so they know what to expect. Change the credit hours because it is really a 2 credit level course.

7. Create a course fee for SAMPLE 200

We would like to implement a fee for this course. The funds will be used to cover required tools and supplies needed for the course. It is more cost effective to buy the supplies in

bulk and give them to the students on the first day rather than have the students buy them individually on their own.

8. We would like to deactivate our SAMPLE certificate because enrollment in the program has been very low within the past 5 years.

9. We would also like to add in double dipping rules and a restriction on our SAMPLE minor (see section 3).

NOTE: All changes listed in this section should be listed in Section 4 in order to be implemented in PeopleSoft, Mapper and the online catalog.

Program Deactivations

Teach out plan:

• All courses will be continue to be offered so that students currently enrolled in the certificate and complete the program.

• We can advise students to switch to our SAMPLE minor program which is similar to the certificate.

• We will also allow for substitution for some courses if applicable.

Implications for Resources

• We are requesting for the new course fee to provide a more cost effective option for the students.

• We may need a special instructor to cover SAMPLE 390R because it is a specialized topic but we do have someone in mind who is qualified to teach.

• No new FTE’s needed because we changed the frequency of SAMPLE 110 to variable while John Berry is on Sabbatical.

Changes in Graduation Requirements

Adding the new course, SAMPLE 100 to the minor requirements increases the total number of credits for the program but SAMPLE 100 will be offered FWS so it shouldn’t cause a big impact on students taking the minor as part of their Holokai requirements.

Changes in Expected Teaching Load

We have a new special instructor in mind to hire to teach the SAMPLE 390R. If the new special instructor spot is not approved then one of our FTE’s will need to pick up that class as an overload.
