I enlisted and served in the rnilita~y service of the Confederate States during the way between the States of the United States and that I did not desert the Confederate service, but during the m7ar I was loyal and true to my duty, and never a t any time abmdoned my post of duty in the said service; or (tlzat I was in the service of the State of Texas during the war to protect said State against the Indians and Mexicans.

and thereafter he presented an aff8bvi-k with reference t o a par t of it;$

some one here i n Tyler, you tarned h i s claim for pension dox~m, although
i n o ~ d e r that he might be able t o get th is pension qhich he needs, I know
that he does nee8 i t very much, znc? I hone that you w i l l go into the f i l e i n
