Form and MeaningTranslation by the dictionary is changing from one state or form to another, to turn into one’s own or another’s language( Merriam-Webster Dictionary 1974).

Translation is basically a change of form. The forms are included actual words, phrases, clauses, sentences, paragraphs which are spoken or written.

In translation,the form of the source language is replaced by the form of the receptor (target) language.

The purpose of the text is to show that translation consist of transferring the meaning of the source language into the receptor (target) language.

Translation, then, consists of studying lexicon, grammatical structure, communication situation, and cultural context of the source language text, analyzing it in order to determaine its meaning, and then reconstructing this same meaning using the lexicon and grammatical structure which are appropriate in the receptor language and its cultural context.

• Example : “ A person who possesses money”English : I have moneyJapanese and Latin: To me there is money.Arabic and Russian : With me there is money.Aguaruna and Turkish: My money exists.

A brochure used in advertising an advertisement for tourist in Brazil: “We glad to you an unforgettable trip by fantastic Marajo Island” (meaning= We offer you an unforgettable trip to fantastic Marajo Island).

Another place the brochure says “Beyond all those things, enjoy of delicious that that your proper mind can create. Marojo Island is inspiration”. (meaning= and above all, enjoy the delights which your own mind will create. Marojo Island will inspire you).

The best translation is the one which:Uses the normal language forms of the receptor

language.Communicates, as much as possible to the

receptor language spekers of the same meaning that was understood by the speakers of the source language.

Maintains, the dynamic of the original source text. Maintaining the ‘Dynamic’ of the original source text means that the translation is presented in such a way that it will, hopefully evoke the same response as the source text attempted to evoke.
