LISTENING COMPREHENSION

TEACHER’S PAPER

Instructions for the conduct of the Listening Comprehension Examination

The teacher should instruct the candidates to answer the questions on the paper provided. The

following procedure for reading the Listening Comprehension passage is to be explained to the

candidates immediately before proceeding with the examination.

You have been given a sheet containing the Listening

Comprehension questions. You will be given three minutes to read

the questions based on the passage which I shall read aloud for you.

I shall then read the passage at normal reading speed. You may take

notes during the reading. After this reading there will be a pause of

another three minutes to enable you to answer some of the questions.

The passage will be read a second time and you may take further

notes and answer the rest of the questions. After this second reading

you will be given a further three minutes for a final revision of

answers.

a. 3 minutes - Teacher reads out the questions.

b. 3 minutes - Teacher reads passage aloud for the first time while students take notes.

c. 3 minutes - Students answer questions.

d. 3 minutes - Teacher reads passage for the second time. Students may answer more questions.

e. 3 minutes - Students revise final answers.

Text 1: Listen to Mandy talking about five teenagers who are studying in England.

Hi! I’m Mandy. Welcome to MTV Young People programme. Today we meet five teenagers who are studying in England.

Pedro, who is fifteen years old, is from Brazil. He speaks English, French and of course Portuguese. His favourite sport is football. He plays football two days a week. Gabi is from New York and she chats with her friends online every evening. Gabi is sixteen years old and she loves swimming and athletics. Fabian is from France and he is sixteen years old. He really loves to eat fish and chips. He likes music a lot and he loves hip-hop and rap. Paola is from Italy. She is seventeen years old and she loves dancing. She has dancing lessons every Friday afternoon. Frederick is from Germany. He is fourteen years old and he is the youngest. He loves skateboarding and going to the cinema.

They feel very happy in England.

Text 2: Listen to an announcement on a plane.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is Charles Jones and I’m your chief flight attendant. On behalf of Captain Richmond and the entire crew, welcome aboard Zap Airlines flight ZAP 133 from London to Athens. Our flight time will be four hours fifteen minutes long. We will be flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet and at a ground speed of 370 miles per hour.

At this time make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their full upright position. Also make sure your seat belt is correctly fastened. Please turn off any electronic equipment. Thank you.”
