Our focus is to engineer and deploy automated, portable friction forge bonding (PFFB) systems for use within hazardous environments for in-service equipment at refineries, petrochemical process plants, storage facilities or industrial work sites. Our proprietary technology is 3rd party tested, meets ASME standards and delivers the same mechanical integrity as traditional welding.

PROPRIETARY PORTABLE FRICTION FORGE BONDING SYSTEMExample AST Roof Repair System

ASME Section IX Welding and Brazing Qualifications:

QW-192 QW-261QW-262

Mechanical Integrity PFFB vs. Arc Welding:

• PFFB brings equal mechanical strength for joining metals as compare to arc welding

• PFFB results in much lower residual tensile stresses in the joint

• PFFB results in a superior metallurgical bond

• Post weld heat treatment will not be required using PFFB due to superior metallurgical bond

• PFFB can be applied in a hazardous environment

• PFFB can be applied to in service equipment

• Forge Tech proprietary process is pre-set, mechanically controlled and takes place in just seconds

The Forge Tech R&D/Engineering team works with customer teams to develop custom

solutions utilizing portable friction forge bonding technology.

Examples include:

• Universal mounting bracket for the installation of studs on multiple diameter pipes.

• Multilevel tank repair patch made from aluminum.

• Pipe rack stud analysis.

• Feasibility analysis for bonded studs to be used for attaching walkways between tanks.

• Stud analysis for attaching handrail supports and fall protection tie down points on tanks (not limited to tanks).

• Side tank repair patch design and feasibility analysis for up to 20” x 70 patch on smaller diameter tank.

THSEngineering has been very busy supporting multiple projects generated by

other departments (Sales, Patent Initiatives and Production). Several recent external projects being supported are:

• Universal mounting bracket for the installation of Permasensors on multiple diameter pipes.

• •Sidetankrepairpatchdesignandfeasibilityanalysisforupto20”x70”patch on smaller diameter tank.

Engineering is also working on the following internal R&D projects to support Production and future growth:

• Rear access actuator housing design. Several benefits of the new design are ease of assembly/dis-assembly for maintenance and repair and elimination of a threaded joint replaced with an O-ring seal.

• Extended travel actuator. This new actuator incorporates the benefits of the new rear access design and adds an additional 1” of bonding travel.

• Testing and tooling development to bond 1” diameter bosses to pipes (large application market).

• Custom fixture clamps addressing specific customer needs allowing us to be responsive to new applications as they are being identified.
