Kurukshetra

With a desire to put our technical geniuses' schemes on displayfor the collectively large and passionate scientific community,Kurukshetra - The Battle of Brains. was introduced in 2007.

It was the first techno-management festival in the sub-continent to receive the decorated UNESCO patronage and thisglamorous rendezvous of adept engineers and entrepreneurialenthusiasts is a much awaited spectra. Unparalleled inmagnitude, the brain fest stands out in terms of its enormousfootfall and undeniably large cash prizes. Additionally Kurukshetra has patronage from Digital India, DEiTy, Government of India.

KURUKSHETRA 2018 – An overview:

Kurukshetra 2018 is scheduled from January 31 to February 3 of 2018. It is a gamut of 35+ events, 12 + workshops , 8+ Guest lectures, 10 + projects. Kurukshetra provides a platform for the best brains of the nation to show their prowess at a national level.

EVENTS:

When young energetic minds ravage in a war of wits to showcase their talents, it boils down to a panorama of events at Kurukshetra. Kurukshetra has a myriad of 35+ events across seven domains namely Engineering, Management, Coding, Robotics, Extravaganza, Quiz and Online. Events range from being specialised to being multidisciplinary.

A few of the signature events are Godspeed, Robowars, Ninja coding, Mad over Marketing, Alcatraz, Circuit craze, Innovate, Datathon and others. Participants get benefits like internships and cash prizes worth INR 10 Lakhs. Events not only recognize the brilliance of the participants, but also the nuances of the young talents.

WORKSHOPS:

A profusion of workshops conducted by Industry leaders and trained experts are on cards for Kurukshetra. Workshops are avenues of learning and play an instrumental role in grooming the technical knowledge of Engineers. Apart from technical workshops, Management and General workshops aim at providing a platform of overall development for students. A few highlight workshops that bedizen this edition are:

Underwater Robotics:Aims at solving complex underwater navigation problems that current academia is working on. The participants will know about the various mechanisms considering the modularity and hydrodynamics of water vehicles including Autonomous Underwater Vehicle popularly known as AUV, Remotely Operated Vehicle, Submarines and Ships. The workshop will deal with the discussion of Remotely Operated vehicles to Autopilots and Dynamic positioning. Different types of underwater sensors will be studied and fish robots will be extensively discussed. It also encourages bright young minds to consider a career in the world of underwater robotics.

SDR and 5G:Post LTE Advanced, current Engineers are researching on 5G and mm wave Technology. This workshop aims at demonstrating the use of Software Defined Radio as a physical layer for future wireless networks. The workshop comes with a lecture from

Dr. MA Bhagyaveni , (Professor, Department of ECE, Anna University), an expert in cognitive radio as she throws light on the future applications of Cognitive radio. Apart from the DSP and Digital communication principles, the participants will also get to implement a self-made BTS on the SDR platform.

Electro hydraulic Panel Design:This technique uses the concept of Electronics to gain the actuation and control over the system and the concept of hydraulics to provide the necessary force required for shaping the machine components. Automobile industry has revolutionised this technique by using it to create versatile hydraulic brakes. The simulations will be done through latest German based software which will help participants gain a comprehensive knowledge of the technology.

Arudinosat:This workshop aims at teaching participants to build their own sophisticated miniature satellites. Covers topics on Satellite communication, Microcontrollers, Electronic PCB circuit design, building a complete satellite, ground test and launching using Helium Air Balloon. Provides intuitive knowledge into space laws.

Dam design:Aims at helping participants to build their own dam models and perform Computation Fluid Dynamics using software. The participants will also get an insight into the forces acting on a dam, Load analysis, Structure analysis and fluid simulation.

Drug design:The goal of this workshop is to provide insight into bioinformatics solutions. Deals with Biological and chemical databases and Chemical File formats, Chemical structure drawing andvisualization using Marvin. KNIME and chemical workflow development and Chemical data analysis using KNIME,Protein modelling via online servers, Protein Structure Visualization and Protein Structure Evaluation, Pharmacophore Designing and Screening, Docking Studies using Autodock.

Deep learning:From SIRI to self-driving cars, artificial intelligence (AI) is progressing rapidly as the hot topic of research. The workshop focuses on Machine learning, Python, Multilayer perception and deep neural networks, Convolutional neural networks, Generative Adversarial networks, Recurrent neural networks and focuses on the intricacies of Deep learning. Aims at making engineers adept in the current trends of the emerging technology.

IBM’s Blockchain:Focuses on the popular bitcoin technology. Blockchain is a shared ledger for recording the history of transactions that cannot be altered. As one of the world’s leading research organizations, IBM’s goal is to explore new ways to advance the science of blockchain by helping remove some of the complexity, making it more accessible and open. This workshop introduces students to the world of blockchain and helps them create their own blockchain application.

Samsung’s S pay:Samsung’s S pay is a contactless mobile payment and digital service by Samsung electronics that allows users make payments using compatible phones and other Samsung devices. The workshop provides gimmicks about the next revolutionary payment technology.

Other than technical workshops, a few general workshops like ‘Sports Journalism by ESPN CricInfo’,‘Ecommerce and Digital marketing’ by Iyer Venkatesh, (Sr. Product Manager RedBus ) Abhishek Joshi, (Head of Marketing - Udacity India) give the participants a niche on overall skillset development.

GUEST LECTURES:

Eminent guests from DRDO, ISRO, DOS India, and others like Mr. Daniel Kilov (Memory athlete), Dr Palagummi Sainath, Mr. Balaji Viswanathan (CEO, Invento Robotics) adorn the panel of Guest Lectures for K!!8.

PROJECTS:

One of the objectives of the fest is to use the spirit of engineering and innovation to find practical solutions to socio-economic problems. An array of 10+ state of art projects are lined up for viewers to visualise the finesse of Engineers.

STUDENT AMBASSADOR:

Students who have good interpersonal skills and are recognized as prospective leaders can become the Student Ambassador of Kurukshetra 18. The candidates will be recognized for their work and skills and be awarded a Letter of Appreciation, along with other rewards. The distinguished candidates will be offered internships at OYO.
