he aim of this master dissertation is to nd o t a new meaning and f nction of forests not only in Stockholm t also in all o er the world. n this a er there is a new way of reading the city y analy ing r an facades. he research will go thro gh se eral cases st dy a o t forests from iet am to Sweden to create a de nition and sco e for for-est r anism. he site F rgfa riken the ind strial s r an area in Stockholm will e taken to e lore the idea of forest r anism. n this ilot ro ect the new f nctions of forests will e sed to sol e almost the ro lem of the site s ch as soil contamination air oll tion and dis ersion. dditionally forests create an ideal en ironment for at-tracting eo le to li e there. herefore the ho sing crisis in Stockholm can e red ced.

his ro ect also hel s to e lore the new way of li ing in the forest to follow the “Gar-den ity” tradition of Stockholm. esides not only following t also intensifying the tradition y adding the working f nction inside the forest. his conce t of forest r an-ism can e a right answer for a estion how to make a mi sed dense city as “green” of the city of Stockholm.

he conce t al framework of this st dio is “ romisc o s ssem lages” it can e nderstood in an e tremely sim le meaning that is collecting se eral small things from di erent laces elds as ects to create or re re-sent a f ll ict re a o t one henomenon. n this case the methodology will e ased on in estigating three main themes territory ecology welfare state and declaring the relationshi s etween them.

erritory “ erritory is an artefact a rinci le of organisation with social origins and characters. t is a collection of artic lar laces and ositions it is a reso rce where goods ser ices and al es are rod ced. ... it is a s ace of a ro riation and indi id al and collecti e constr ct and imaginary.”[1]

cology as r anism “ cology has layed in the renewal of landsca e as a medi m of r an lanning and design and rehearse ario s claims that ha e een made on ehalf of landsca e ecology as an agent of con-tem orary design c lt re.”[2]

elfare state ” a system where y the state ndertakes to rotect the health and well eing of its citi ens es-ecially those in nancial or social need y means of grants ensions and other ene ts.”[3]

hese three large main themes will e narrow down for in estigating nder the Forest r anism theme. n this smaller theme the research will foc s on territories that co ered y forests. ence the de nition of ecology as r anism will e de elo ed f rther as the forest r anism. dditionally welfare state will e clari ed ased on the relation with forest.

he working area of the ro ect is ite large it is starting from the road scale of Stockholm than comming closer to o holmen the rst ind strial s r of Stockholm.

From the starting oint of the esta lishment cities in iet am eo le started to ild small illages that were closed to water so rces and forests. ntil now there are some of these illages still e isted. n fact the ho sing ty ologies of these illages are really accordant to forests. n other words the ty e of tro ical forest de nes the ty e of ho sing ty ology.

he ty ical tro ical forest in iet am has three main elements soil animals and trees. he soil in tro ical for-ests is ite m ddy and always wet. esides the density of trees is e tremely high. herefore to walk thro gh the forest eo le ha e to ild a athway that li from the gro nd le el to . meter. dditionally animals in tro ical forests are really dangero s for eo le. ence most of the ilding inside or close to forests are li

meters from the gro nd. he gro nd oor mostly o en and sing for storages feeding animals. F rther-more with this system of athways and ho sing ty ologies eo le start to create illages in the clearings of forests. his can e considered as a starting oint of forest r anism.

he ty e of forest is not only de nes the ty e of ho sing ty ology t also gi es an idea a o t the str ct re and materiality. s mentioned efore most of ildings are ilt on o en ases that made y col mns. e-sides mangro e woods will e sed to ilt the ildings eca se mangro e woods are a le to stay in the wet condition of tro ical forests. he walls can e made of m d and lea es therefore the ho ses are warm at night and cool in the morning. his is one of e am les that eo le are li ing constr cting with nat re.

Forest ecosystems lay se eral roles at glo al as well as local scales ro ide a range of im ortant economic social and en ironmental goods and ser ices that im act on the well eing of oor r ral comm nities local and national economies and glo al en ironmental health. n fact at the glo al scale it is estimated that forest-ry contri ted a ro imately to the world G or more than S illion er year. owe er the act al contri tion of forest to the economy of the world is considered m ch higher. esides of economic al e forests ha e a cr cial role in the red ction of glo al warming.

ccording to Glo al Forest eso rces the total area co ered forests is a ro imately million hectares almost one third of the world s land area. ost of that is nat ral forest and only is arti cial. of forests area elongs to ro e. s a ma er of fact ased on the research of ann al change in forests in the ast de-cade it shows that the area of forest is increasing in ro e and sia as well. therwise in other regions there is only decreasing in the area of forests also in sia.

hro gh this research it clearly shows that forest is now an e tremely rgent to ic in all o er the world. he fact is in ro e eo le are aware of the im ortance of forests therefore the enlargement of forests is ite high. esides the o lation in ro e is ite low therefore they ha e a lot of o ort nity in de elo ing a new ty e of r anism that works with forests. t can e a ilot ro ect to in estigate the idea of forest r anismF rthermore all the co ntries that stay close to the rctic together create a green loo that kee s the tem-

n fact the conce t of forest r anism had een thinking for a long time efore it is not st ased on the n-ro en reading of territories. his conce t was orn to raise the ecological awareness in last cent ry and st

cent ry as well. f we considered forest as a static land se one it can ecome really str ct ral. s a ma er of fact this conce t is dealing with the contem orary trends of s staina ility. forest has enormo s contri-

tions to iodi ersity and enlarges the l ngs of the world y storage of and rod cing ygen. esides the roots can also heal lands and increase the ality of ndergro nd water. F rthermore there is s eci c ty ological architect re need to e g red o t for forest r anism.[1]

n this a er the theme forest r anism is considered as a com ination of two henomena forest and r an-ism. n the one hand at the side of the forest there are three main elements that create the forest s ch as soil trees and animal life. n the other hand elong to the r anism are li ing working leis re and trans-

rincess starr is one of the se eral famo s ill strations of ohn a er for the ook rincess starr and the Fish ond in . n the ainting the rincess is si ng in front of the ool looking for her golden heart from

he story of Sk the oose and rincess starr.

he story is telling a o t the o rney of rincess starr to disco er the world. She meets a strong and wise elk and tells him to carry her into life. She le the safe world inside the ream astle and started to e lore the new world. s rst all is well and the rincess is ha y with her o rney. t the rincess is too delicate and dangers form the dark forest. i le y li le she lost e erything on her ody. hen the rincess and elk go dee er into the forest to see the ool. t the ool the rincess is mesmeri ed y the ea ty of the dark ool and lost her golden heart the gi from her mother. hile she is si ng there and looking for her golden heart the elk disa ears into the forest with hesitant ste s.[1]

hro gh this short story it is clear that forests ha e s ecial meaning with Swedish eo le. n the ast they tho gh that the forest is totally a di erent world with f ll of mistery com are to the world inside the citadel or castles. he ea ty of the forest a racted them to disco er it. esides inside the forest they co ld nd se -eral layers of feelings from oyf l to conf sion. herefore Swedish eo le consider forests not only as hysical green s aces t also as the c lt re to re resent their co ntry.

n reality more than of the land in Sweden is co ered y forests. owe er the relation etween forest and r an tiss e had not een gi en right a ention. t is a right time to address and analy e the relation e-tween forests and dis ersed r ani ation in Sweden es ecially Stockholm. n one hand the forest ind stry in Sweden with e orting wood related rod cts has an im ortant role in the em loyment sector and national economic income. n the other hand we can consider forests as a asic element of contem orary r anism and a ri te str ct ring role for forests. ct ally in the ast forests had in ence on r an mor hology and also de ned s eci c ty ological architect re.[1]

ccording to the re io s art in Sweden forests is ecoming the element that re resents for the co n-try. From the ast and ntil now eo le are li ing in the forests. hey know how to take ad antages from the forests to earn money ser e their li es. n fact the idea of forest r anism already e ists in Sweden and Stockholm t it has ne er een an o cial theory. herefore the idea of adding more forests to the e isting sit ation is rele ant. eca se the en ironment is ideal for following testing and enhancing the li ing tradition of Swedish eo le. his conce t is somehow similar to the sit ation in iet am. ost of the cities in iet am ha e a starting oint of esta lishment ased on water so rces. ring a long history eo le learn how to li e with water. n the coming decades iet am has to face the iss es of climate change. h s water r anism is one of the sol tions for this ro lem. dding more water to sol e the ro lem of water. n the case of Sweden adding more forests to sol e the ro lem a o t the en ironment and the r an str ct re.

e ertheless the interaction etween eo le and forests was not really enhanced. e can see this sit ation ite clear in a case of residential area Sodra ng y in Stockholm. n contrast the case in ordea showing

the design of a forest as a “ ark” that hel s to sha ing r an forms thro gh the time.

he s ecial thing a o t this case st dy is the r an str ct re of the area. ll the small ngalows that were laced in the forest ite randomly and eo le try not to to ch the forest. he distance etween each

ngalow is s ita le for walking. he circ lation is ite sim le the streets were made directly y sand soil from the forest. dditionally the architect re is e tremely asic most of the ildings were made of wood m d and stone these nat ral materials that kee those ildings in the harmony with the forest. en tho gh the density of the area is really low t it shows that from more than years ago in Stockholm

eo le already started the idea of li ing in the forest. n this case in the ast eo le li ed and worked in a citadel and they went h nting in the forest. owadays from the h nting area this is transformed into an am sement ark for to rist to isit and learn a o t the history of Stockholm.

hro gh the sco e of forest r anism rg rden can e considered as an e am le where the interaction etween eo le and the forest are ite strong. eo le not only li e t also go h nting and en oy the na-

t re in the forest. here are also some interesting ty ologies of ho ses that s ited with the forest. ost of the ildings they ha e laces to kee animals and also for storing wood.

ocated in western art of Stockholm incl ding to romma oro gh Sorda ng y is a residential area with more than dwellings the area co ers . s are kilometers and contains eo le. his area was ilt with the idea of a garden city and f nctionalist architect re. Since Sodra ng y is the largest area with f nctionalistic illas in Sweden and all o er the world as well. hro gh a half cent ry it is well reser ed and rotected as a national c lt ral heritage.[3]

hro gh the master lan of this area we can see that the organi ation of r an fa ric was ased on to ogra-hy and the e isting forest. Since the city of Stockholm o ght this lace and the design starting with

the idea that kee ing the forest as m ch as ossi le. he hierarchy of streets was ado ted to the to ogra hy of Sodra ng y therefore the r an layo t had organic sha es. esides the forest was nto ched th s the rows of illas were located s rro nding the forest ol mes. dditionally the commercial center of Sodra ng y is located along the ring road ne t to the metro station. his ty e of r an layo t is di erent from other s -

r s where all the commercial ildings were located in the center of areas. s a ma er of fact we can clearly see that the r an form is de ned y landsca es of the area. n this case the landsca es are hill terrain and the forest. e ertheless the relation etween ho sing locks and the forests had not een enhanced.

his fact is tr ly ro ed y the design of illas. of illas were designed y d in ngstr m architect with f nctionalist architect ral style. ll illas had c ic ol mes white laster fa ade at roof large window and ro nded alconies which are totally in contrast with the s rro nding forest. F rthermore when li ing here

eo le do not really se forests which are located in their ackyards. n other words there are no acti ities in the forest that are ite di erent from the rst conce t that this lace will ecome a garden city.[4]

hro gh this case st dy the com osition etween forest and r an elements is not alanced of the area is co ered y the forest. herefore all the illas are facing with the streets and staying closed to each other to enhance the interelation. he iece of forest etween two illas gi es the ri acy for each one. eca se of this low density Sodra ng y is a monof nctional r an area.

n the early s the economic sit ation in Stockholm was serio s. n economic decline had hit the western world and millions of eo le were nem loyed. inter a ro imately eo le were with-o t work in Sweden es ecially families with children were a ected hard and one third of children were con-sidered to e malno rished. he irth rate declines ra idly and ecomes the lowest among estern co ntries.

erloading in ho sing sit ation in the stone city and the ho sing standard was nsatisfactory. n the central of Stockholm there were only a artments that had their own athroom in .

n the eginning of s eo le in Stockholm li ed in a artments. n the s r area mainly eo le had their own territories with detached ho ses. herefore the state ho sing olicy egan in with a s e-cial s ort to ho sing for “needy families with many children”. he de elo ment lan for ammar yh den

ro osed y real estate o ce s own architects with f nctionalist town lanning as an ideal model. he district was ilt mainly in the eriod . he lan of the site came with a long thin sla ilding that sit directly on the terrain. he same as Sodra ng y ammar yh den was also designed with the “garden city” conce t. h s all the nat ral conditions were ke t as m ch as ossi le. ll the ildings were laced er en-dic lar to the streets therefore the main relation etween two ildings are ased on the street. ll the ild-ings in this area were designed with f nctionalist architect re style with white laster and re etiti e rhythm of nched windows and alconies. n fact this style of architect re made the ildings lended to the forest.

ccording to ity of Stockholm in city lanning decided to ha e a rogram for districts ammar yh den and rkhagen which takes a holistic a roach to de elo ment to enhance the lic s ace and ro ide the necessary ser ices as the o lation increases. n the aim of this rogram is to e loit its otential to create new homes in the central of Stockholm. here are to new homes ten new kindergartens a new school and the e anding of ammer school is considered as well.

n this case the com osition etween forest and r anism is di erent from the re io s case st dy. hanging from illa ty ology to a artment ty ology gi es higher density and F. . for the area as well. esides these thin

ildings and the distance etween them are good eno gh to t with the idea of “Garden ity” not too far and not too close to still kee the atmos here of the forest and e considered as an r anism.

he ro ect is located on the right ank of the main ri er in ordea and took lace on the acant land of the mo ing ind stry. he idea is trying to nd a way to connect the historic city on the le ank with the right

n this case the ro ect is also dealing with the dis ersed ind strial area somehow the same with the sit ation in Fargfa riken area. he r ose of this ro ect is rede ning the r an forms and the relation of this fragmen-tation re enting the r an s rawl to the ri er ank on the right ank .

ccording to the ro ect the hea y wall forest along the waterfront and the er endic lar lines of forest to the ri er create a framework for the r an de elo ment and a new ality to the area. his forest will e reali ed at the ark in the city center along the ri er to transform the a andoned ays to another f nction. he has-ing of the ro ect shows that how the forest is going to e ilt in a few decades. ll the a andoned arcels of the ind strial area are made f ll se to ild the ro ect eace y eace.

s mentioned efore Fargfa riken site is dis ersed ind strial area which is lacking the str ct re of the r an fa ric. n coming decades Stockholm will face the growing of o lation therefore this area is e ected to

From the eginning of th cent ry and f rther in the ast in Stockholm there was a long history of li ing with the forest. For the instant ing ohn created rg rden for h nting acti ities. e created some random ho ses in the forest to kee deers mo ses and then released them when they went h nting. h s in the mid-dle ages the statement for this li ing style is “li ing in a citadel and h nting in a forest”.

o ing to the th cent ry the conce t of “Garden ity” ecame a trend. Since the s in Sodra ng y eo le had li ed in the forest as a illas ty ology. ater in s that was a time of a artment ty ology. n ammar yh den many thin sla s that were t on rock to ogra hy in the forest. h s now is st cent ry

the estion is how we can contin e to follow the tradition t also enhance it n the ast eo le only li e ne t near to the forest t the interaction with the forest is limited. herefore the strategy is to create a new forest r anism where eo le can li e work and lay s ort with mi ed sed di erse ty ologies. y the way this strategy is also following the desire of ity of Stockholm a o t mi sed density as green.

hat ty e of forest r anism is s ita le for Stockholm and o holmen as well n the side of “F S ” the rst com onent is soil. he ty ical forest in Sweden and Stockholm is ines forest the soil in that kind of forest

is medi m and dry sand soil. his ty e of soil is strong eno gh for walking and dri ing. e t is the egetations there are only two main ty es of ines trees “ in s sil estris” and “ in s nigra”. F rthermore the distance e-tween two trees is changing from m m therefore it is good for eo le to walk ike and dri e in the forest.

he last thing is animal life of co rse in this case the area is really close to the r an therefore all the ty es of animals are ite small s ch as deers ra its and irds. n the side of “ S ” there are some clearing in the forest that eo le can li e and working. he new ty e of ilding is com ination etween two f nctions ho sing and working s aces. hese working s aces can e o ces kindergarten and tim er worksho s related direct to the forest. ther smaller clearings are for recreational acti ities. For circ lation in the forest eo le are a le to mo e from one clearing to the other y st walking iking in the forest. y this way the interaction

etween eo le and forest are enhanced. “ n the clearings eo le gather together o tside the clearings eo-le h nt ”.[1]

URBAN STRATEGY - FOLLOWING THE TRADITION

The new way of living with forest . Type of forest de-fines type of urbanism

he idea is to create a new hea y wall forest along the water front to connect with the e isting inner land for-est. he new loo of the forest ro ides the new str ct re that encloses the e isting r an fa rics. oreo er this new str ct re somehow gi es ack the connection from the water front to the inner art of o holmen.

esides the new hea y wall forest not only hel s to enhance the relationshi etween di erent areas in o holmen t also comm nicate with the o osite r an facades of eimersholme.

he new forest has an im ortant str ct ring role it is ecoming a dominant land se that gi es g idelines for the de elo ment of r an fa ric. ased on the e isting sit ation the area along the water front are a le to

e di ided into three arts s ch as ed cation resident and a new li ing. working comm nity. For the e isting school in this area the new forest is gi ing a e er s rro nding en ironment where children st dent can e eriment the nat re. F rthermore the e tension of the school s facilities in the forest makes a stronger con-nection eo le and nat re. he e isting residential area that closes to the ed cational one has a new str ct re and a new ality of li ing as well. he new alternating forest atches r n etween the e isting ho sing locks creates a high ality of s ace incase of iew and s atial e eriment. his strategy is showing that the idea of forest r anism can e a lied for se eral ty es of r anism from the sim le residential area to the ed ca-tional area. n the area of Fargfa riken s site a new ty e of r anism is ro ided that come along with a new architect ral ty ology. n this new ty e of ty ology eo le can li e work and en oy the nat re. t can e call as a f rther ste of the “Garden ity” conce t.

n the re io s session the a er already ga e the asic idea a o t how to li e in a forest . ased on the strategy of the site there are only three ildings that will e ke t for reno ation one of these ildings is Fargfa riken. F rthermore the conce t is coming with a new ty e of ty ology com ine li ing and working f nctions. n this case the working f nction can e toward to tim er directly relate to the forest t also can

e se eral ty es of working s ch as o ce kinder garden art works ... h s these two e isting ilding will e transformed into ho sing and working laces. esides three more ildings will e laced inside new clearings in the forest to ens re the density for de elo ment. he str ct re of three new ildings is gi ing y the for-est and three e isting ildings. n the general iew the way that all of these ildings are si ng in the forest creates a feeling of a random r an str ct re. owe er it is not really random eca se the distances etween these ildings are close eno gh for eo le to walking and do not get lost in the forest. esides the feeling of

eing random is really s ited to the conce t of li ing in the forest. eca se the ty e of forest is ine forests with dry sand soil therefore eo le are a le to walk and ike from this clearing to the others. ccording to the city of Stockholm from there will e no cars in the city. ence the idea is to kee this area car free and there is an only one way street that goes thro gh the site and connects with all the clearings sing for an emergency sit ation.

ccording to the “ illion rograms” Stockholm is facing the ro lem of lack of ho sing es ecially social ho sing. herefore the aim of this ro ect is gi ing ho sing to somehow red ce the rden. F rthermore the idea of com ining working f nction to ho sing locks is not only create a new ty ology t also intensify the “Garden city” tradition of Stockholm. eca se of com ining li ing and working f nctions the ol me of the new ildings ha e to e large. First the large ol mes can e t with the e isting factory ildings. Second the com acity of these ol mes hel s to red ce energy cons m tion which is e tremely cr cial with Stock-holm. esides the li ing and working clearings there are se eral clearings for recreational acti ities. hese rec-reational clearings and some la orms on the waterfront enco rage eo le to mo e inside the forest. y this way the r an life is s read o t into the forest. n other words the interaction etween forest and r anism is ecoming stronger.

n this age the new ro osal gi es the answer for re io s research estions “ ow can a forest hel to str ct re a new r an fa ric hat is a relation etween forest and r ani ation ow do they interact with each other hat is a s ita le ro ortion of forest ol me and r an tiss e ”.

hich is a s ita le r an facade for Fargfa riken sitehro gh this drawing one of the ad antages of forest r anism com are to other r anism is the s er di-ersity of architect ral styles. eca se in this ty e of r anism the thing that connects all the r an ele-

ments is forest therefore the only thing that ildings ha e to interact is the forest. dditionally the ty ical height of ine trees is aro nd m therefore the height of ildings cannot e higher than se en oors.

he answer to the estion is a green s er di erse r an facade which is also really s ited to the mised dense city as “green” ision of Stockholm.

n fact to create a forest r anism it takes time therefore this ro ect may need at least years to e de el-o ed. ccording to ichel es inge the ro ect in ordea is starting with the works of remediating land y

sing small scale of egetations and then a yo ng forest is ilt with high density of trees to gi e a g ideline for new r an de elo ments.

ased on the re io s reading site doc ments this ro ect will start y demolishing some contaminated ild-ings and the a it cement factory will mo e away. earning from the reference Thlaspi caerulescens plant is

sed for cleaning the soil. sing egetations for remediating soil is considered as a cost e ecti e alternati e com are to engineering methods. rtherwise oth of these methods always take to years to clean the soil. n the same time with remediation the reno ating for reser ed ildings is also taken lace.[1] er years

of remediation the soil is ready for growing a forest. n this case the strategy is to grow a yo ng forest to sa e time. hro gh this time eo le already se the site with reno ated ildings for st dying li ing working and en oying art works from Fargfa riken. n a er a few times of har esting from yo ng trees the forest will

e large eno gh for starting the new constr ction. he clearings in the forest will e created to gi e a str ct re for new constr ctions. Finally in the ilot ro ect is com leted. he new r an facades the ality of the new comm nity is de ned. “ n the clearings eo le gather together o tside the clearings eo le h nt ”.

hro gh this st dying of the timeline from the eginning till the end of the ro ect at each ste the relation etween r anism and forest is still enhanced. hat is means the r anism is de elo ing along with the forest.

t is totally diferrent from the ast eo le c t a iece in the forest to ild the city. F rthermore it is clearly shows that the choice of forest r anism is really s ited to the site. t hel s to transform the dis ersed ind s-trial area with oll ted air soil to the green en ironment with high ality for eo le to li e and working.

n general the ty e of forest r anism is already de ned that is working and li ing area therefore the idea of the whole ro ect are a le to re resent thro gh one oom in ro ect. n this ilot ro ect the working f nction will e toward to the tim er relate directly to the forest.

he design rocess starting with the location of a new ilding in the clearing. ccording to the conte t in Stockholm the s n st dying will e e amed in s mmer eriod eca se in the winter there will e no s nshine.

ost of the s nlight s ally foc ses on the a ernoon therefore on the est side the ilding will e laced f ther to the forest at least m as height as the forest to ma imi e the amo nt of s nlight. he ilding is di ided into three smaller ol mnes and arranged with a sha e to get more s nlight for the middle art and create a co rt yard as a certain height for en oying the nat re as well. dditionally the ho sing f nction will e located at the two sides of the ilding. n the middle and the gro nd oor will e sed for working area. he ro ting is designed to work inde ently etween working and li ing s aces. n the gro nd oor the working s ace is designed to e e i le with a str ct re of timer col mns with m s an. F rthermore the design of the facade is resilient thro gh the seasons. o e more detailed in the s mmer there are some arts on the facade can e totally o en to gi e a feelling of working o tside to the nat re. therwise in the winter these

anels will e closed and com ine with gla ing facade to enhance the relation with the forest. n the er oors it will e the com ination of ho sing and li ing s aces. he working s aces are se erated from the ho s-

ing nits y the corridors. y this way it can hel s to re ent the noise from the working com artments and ens re the ri acy of the a artments. n this ro ect there are ty es of a artments that can s it to se eral ty es of families from the single to the large one. oreo er the idea is to ha e strong contrast etween the inside and o tside s ace. n the one hand the facades of the ilding are ke t at and sim le to react with the forest. n the other hand the facades inside corridors will e more alternating to generate the original atmos here of the endless corridors.

s a ma er of fact the most im ortant art of the ilding is the facade. eca se the connection etween the ilding and s rro nding is re resenting on the facade. n this case the ilding is s rro nded y the forest therefore the estion is which is a ro riate ty ological architect re for forest r anism

he conce t of the facade comes directly from the forest. he ty ical a ern of Sweden forest is translated into the architect ral lang age. he whole facade is ke t at and co ered y two ty es of wooden clad-ding in the ertical direction. he darker one is sing to re resenting the trees on the facade. dditionally

eca se of staying inside the forest on the facade there are a lot of large gla ing windows to enhance the connection from indoor to o tdoor s aces and also gi e the feeling of eing in the forest. y this way the architect ral lang age of the ilding is also re resenting the conte t of the forest.

F rthermore the way the ilding is laced on the to ogra hy is also s eci c for forest r anism. he to ogra hy of the area is mostly nto ched. he ilding sits on the concrete ase that laced directly on the gro nd. n this ste it shows that the forest de nes the architect ral style of the ilding. he ilding inside the forest is di erent from the one in the city. t does not se la orm or a en the to ogra hy. n this sit ation the way of constr ction the ilding is totally ased on the to ogra hy and soil condition of the forest.

aking the case st dy in iet am as an e am le the str ct re and materiality of the ilding are gi en y the forest. h s the decision to make a ilding with wood comes from that idea. s mentioned on the gro nd le el there will e a concrete ase and the str ct re is laced on that ase. n the gro nd oor eca se of the tim er working f nctions therefore the str ct re will go with col mns and eams with meters s an.

n the er oors with the ho sing f nctions the load earing walls str ct re is sed with the rhythm of e ery meters and the sla s are t directly on the walls. ltho gh the conce t of str ct re is sim le t

ilding with system is like taking another ste in sing the new generation materials.

ooming in to one fragment of the ho sing facade there are two main materials wood and gla ing. he com-ination of these two materials gi es warm and contem orary a earance for the ilding. here are two

ty es of facades on the ho sing arts. hen there is a li ing room there will e a ed large gla ing window to let eo le ha e a nice scenogra hy to the forest. esides the o ening window is cladding with dark wooden

anels to e a art of the arti cial trees on the facade. n the case of the edroom there will e a logia that has an o ening to the li ing room this o ening com ines with the o ening window of the li ing room working as a entilation system. n the facade of the edroom there will e some sliding lo ers to re ent art of direct s nlight therefore the edroom will ha e def sed the light. ehind the lo ers there is a system with com ination of gla ing alcony and single sliding gla ing windows to create a winter garden. t will e closed in winter to heat the room and o ened in the s mmer to cool the room.

ccording to the s staina le as ect of str ct re and materiality this ilding is ilt with the sim le str ct re and local materials which are almost s rro nding the ilding. F rthermore sing str ct re that makes the ilding is lighter com ared to concrete. esides wooden material hel s to red ce foot rint com are to steel. ilding with system can hel to red ce time and money also eca se the walls are already
