US 5 (3.75 mm) straight or circular needles, or size needed to achieve gauge

Dimensions: Size S-M is 48 inches wide by 27 inches long. Size L-XL is 58 inches wide by 27 inches long. (Model shown is size L-XL.)

Gauge:

19 stitches and 31 rows equals four inches in lace pattern after blocking. Abbreviations: k – knit k2tog – knit two together kfb – knit into the front and back of the stitch p – purl pm – place marker sm – slip marker sts – stitches yo – yarn over Lace Pattern: Row 1: knit. Row 2: k3, *yo, k1; repeat from * across to last 3 sts, k3. Row 3: k3, purl across to last 3 sts, k3. Row 4: k3, k2tog across to last 3 sts, k3. Rows 5-6: knit to marker, sm, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * across to marker, sm, knit to end. Row 7: knit. Rows 8-21: repeat rows 1-7 twice.

Rows 22-26: knit. Notes: Vest is worked sideways in one piece. Size S-M has one fewer 26-row lace repeat on each front and on

the back. This is indicated in the instructions, however row numbers include rows for size L-XL, so knitters making size S-M need to set row counter forward when skipping these rows.

Instructions: Cable cast on 128 sts. Row 1: knit. Rows 2-3: purl. Row 4: knit. Row 5: p3, *k2, p2, repeat from * to last 5 sts, k2, p3. Row 6: k3, *p2, k2, repeat from * to last 5 sts, p2, k3. Row 7: repeat row 5. Row 8: repeat row 6. Row 9: purl. Rows 10-11: knit. Row 12: purl. Rows 13-16: knit. Row 17: k20, pm, k98, pm, k10.
