Robert SchumannUnlike hardly any other composer, Robert Schumann is able tomake children see the beauty of classical music. As a father ofeight children, he virtually wrote ‘hits for kids’ almost 200 yearsago: Works such as ‘Kinderszenen’ or the ‘Album für die Ju-gend’ and many other pieces have got children enthusiasticabout piano playing for generations. In the first person, Robert tells of his childhood, his youth andhis eventful musical life. Children (and their parents) hear fromhis own mouth when, how and where his famous compositionswere created. They hear about fascinating things of that timeand about Schumann’s composer friends – and above all abouthis great love of Clara Schumann, also a composer and famouspianist even as a child…

Peter TschaikowskyThe year 1840 saw the birth of the probably most famous Russ-ian composer – Pyotr Tchaikovsky. As a little boy he loved na-ture, so it was all the more painful for him to move with hisparents first to Moscow and soon after to the Tsar’s capital, St.Petersburg. Inspired by the folk music of his country, he beganto compose very early and left a varied and abundant oeuvre. But it is his ballet works that Tchaikovsky is most loved and ad-mired for: Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker de-light both children and adults alike.

Ludwig van BeethovenDirk Walbrecker invites his readers on a journey to the days ofViennese Classicism, letting Ludwig van Beethoven tell storiesfrom his exciting life: about revolutionary Europe, about fa-mous artists in his environment as well as about his visionarymusic. We accompany Ludwig in a horse-drawn carriage from Bonn toVienna and to the Bohemian spas, get to know something abouthis ‘Immortal Beloved’ and much about how he composed al-though he lost his hearing in the course of his life.Illustrated with imaginative illustrations by Maren Blaschke,Beethoven’s life and his days come alive in their very own way.A selection of his most popular works recorded on the accompa-nying CD leaves the reader musically enchanted.

Dirk Walbrecker studied German studies and pedagogicsamong others. Worked as a teacher and for the film. Since 1986freelance author: screenplays, radio plays, picture books, chil-dren’s and juvenile novels.

136 pages – softcover21,0 x 29,7 cm€ 24.99ISBN 978-3-7957-0781-1 · ED 21242

Live arrangements combine composition and arrangement tech-niques with educational practice, their aim and result being mu-sical pieces which are developed in a spontaneous andprocess-oriented manner during rehearsal. Each participant thusplays an active part in the creative process.

Both the book and the DVD provide all tips and tricks for livearrangements with different target groups very clearly, fromschool class to professional choir, from basic level to highlyprofessional performance. Thus, a plain sheet of music morphsinto a group arrangement for an unusual instrumentation, a sheetof lyrics into a choral arrangement for several voices, or a suc-cession of chords into a perfectly fitting band arrangement.

For many years, Jürgen Terhag and Jörn Kalle Winter have stud-ied and tested the methodology of live arrangements. This fun-damental work summarizes their findings for the first time – foreverybody who wishes to bring a new creativity to their musicalgroup work.

‘Umfassend Musizieren’ is not an in-depth essay that aims togive a comprehensive treatment of this vast topic. Instead, An-dreas Doerne depicts the various dimensions of music-makingin order to sketch the rudiments of an integral instrumentaltraining. He departs from the conviction that music-making af-fects all levels of human life and should incorporate them whenimparted to others. The goal is a comprehensive, varied trainingon the instrument, which gives rise to an intensive experienceand existential relationship between man and music. ‘Umfassend Musizieren’ sees itself along with Michael Dartsch’s‘Mensch, Musik und Bildung’ as a sequel to the publisher’sbasic music-pedagogical writings, the first volumes of which –‘Handbuch Üben’ ed. by Ulrich Mahler and Christoph Wagner’s‘Hand und Instrument’ – were published a few years ago.
