FOREIGN MILITARY BASES IN INDIAN OCEAN


1. CHINESE BASE : GWADAR

DESCRIPTION : Chinese Port and Naval Base on lease from Pakistan.

LOCATION : Balochistan (Pakistan)

PRIMARY JOB :

1. Reinforces Pakistan’s Karachi Naval base against India.

2. Limits the movement of Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea.

3. Secures all Gulf ports including Adan and beyond for Chinese cargo ships.

2. PAKISTANI BASE : ORMARA

DESCRIPTION : Newly commissioned Jinnah Naval Base built with Chinese grant and technical assistance.

LOCATION : Balochistan (Pakistan)

PRIMARY JOB :

1. Serves as a testing and launching facility for nuclear payload capable “Shaheen” series ballistic missiles.

2. Provides cover to unlisted Chinese spy ships and submarines in the Arabian sea.

3. Secures military supplies to army against Baloch rebels via sea route.

3. PAKISTANI BASE : KARACHI

DESCRIPTION : Biggest Pakistani naval base and warship fleet headquarters.

LOCATION : Sind (Pakistan)

PRIMARY JOB :

1. Harbors most of the Pakistani warships and submarines.

2. Serves as base for all anti-India operations carried out by Pakistani Navy and ISI through sea route.

3. Provides support to the underworld (international smugglers, poachers, drug peddlers) and terrorists to enter and move through Indian terrotory.








4. CHINESE BASE : MARAO

DESCRIPTION : Most important Chinese nuclear submarine base in Indian Ocean (under development).

LOCATION : 40 km south of Male (Maldives)

PRIMARY JOB :

1. Will restrict the movement of Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean south of Lakshadweep islands.

2. Will act as China’s critical surveillance post in south Asia to counter Indian’s Southern Naval Command and NATO bases in Asia.

3. Will act as a training facility for Chinese intelligence personnel and a strong link between their Counter-India facilities in Pakistan and Myanmar.








5. U.S. BASE : DIEGO GARCIA

DESCRIPTION : Most strategic NATO/US base in the Asia Pacific Region

LOCATION : British Indian Ocean Territory

PRIMARY JOB :

1. Acts as a base for Joint Military Command of US/UK/NATO for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

2. Forms part of US Space Surveillance Network with GEODSS station and NASA Space Shuttle Landing Site.

3. Houses at least 14 US Marine ships, numerous submarines and B-1, B-2, B-52 & P-3C Orion aircrafts. Unconfirmed reports also point to a US Nuclear Weapon Hub on the island.

6. CHINESE BASE : HAMBANTOTA

DESCRIPTION : Camouflage Base for Chinese Movement in the Indian Ocean (under development).

LOCATION : Sri Lanka

PRIMARY JOB :

1. Will act as a fuel hub for Chinese cargo, military and spy vessels in South Asia.

2. Will provides extensive bunkering facility to the ships and submarines of Chinese navy.

3. Will be an anchor to facilitate Chinese oil exploration and extraction projects in the Indian ocean.

7. CHINESE BASE : CHITTAGONG

DESCRIPTION : Full fledged Chinese Naval Base just 300 km away from Indian Territory (proposed).

LOCATION : Bangladesh

PRIMARY JOB :

1. Will act as a strong deterrent to Indian movements in the Bay of Bengal.

2. Will provide a direct passage to China mainland through Myanmar for all Chinese facilities in South and West Asia.

3. Will be a major logistic and surveillance support to the existing Chinese naval base in Great Coco Island.

4. Will be used extensively to support militant activities in India.






8. CHINESE BASE : COCO ISLAND

DESCRIPTION : Most important Chinese Base in South Asia.

LOCATION : Great Coco Island (Myanmar)

PRIMARY JOB :

1. Tracks Indian Navy and Indian Coastguard in the entire Indian Ocean.

2. Intercepts the classified communication emerging from Indian Naval Headquarters in the Andaman Islands.

3. Links to Chinese Spy Satellites positioned over Indian sub-continent.

4. Provides safe haven to the passing Chinese Sea Traffic (both military and civilian) to and from Malacca Straits.
