This summer Arctic sea ice shrank to only 1.97 million square miles(5.1 million square kilometres). The 2009 drop is still the thirdlargest on record, but it's not as big as some scientists had feared.

H UNGER is the most extreme form ofPOVERTY. Presently, 854million people across the world are hungry. EVERY DAY , almost16,000 children die from hungerrelated causes. Almost6 millionchildren die ANNUALLY due to hunger.

The latest statistics on the world epidemicof AIDS AND HIV indicate that 39 million people are living with it. AIDS deaths for2006were 2.9 million, despite recent improvementsto access to antiretroviral treatment.

Equally serious is the fact that a worldwide SHORTAGE OFFRESH DRINKING WATER affects forty per cent of the planets popu-lation. Each year, 11 million people die of diseases related to waterthat is not clean enough for consumption.

Finally, it is believed that MALARIA acutely afflicts more than515 million people per year. This number is more people than livein Canada, the United States, and Mexico, combined. Twothirds ofall cases occur in Africa. Additionally, it causes more than 1 mil-lion deaths per year, principally among CHIL -DREN under the age of five years and pregnant

women. At least eightysix per cent of thesedeaths are in SubSaharan Africa. Globally, anestimated 3,000 women, children, and infantsdie from malariaEVERY DAY . Twelve billion dol-lars per year is lost to malaria.

In some countries, more people die of MALARIA thanHIV/AIDS and recently, a new study showed that people whocontractMALARIA become more likely to spread HIV .

For over onehalf century, DDT has been used as part of thesolution to one of the worlds great problems. Through the policiesofDEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE of Environmental Terror Organizations,DDT has been prohibited in a manner that can only be described as ECOM ANSLAUGHTER .

WITH DDT.

M ALARIA has wrought an enormous economic toll, by inca-pacitating otherwise productive people. The burden of malariacosts SubSaharan Africa an estimated twelve billion dollars per year. ThousandsSURVIVE the disease with brain damage, thuskeeping millions at home to care for them. It is the principal reasonwhy people in Africa are living in abjectPOVERTY.

Both North America and Europe have not harboured malarialMOSQUITOES since the 1940s. This was accomplished through theuse of a range of public health meas-ures, as well as generally increasinghealth and living standards. In fact, thebeginning of the decline of malaria was

due principally to the drainage ofswampland and the removal of mill-ponds. In had been known since 1914that malaria could be controlled by fluc-tuating water levels. Nonetheless, DDTcontributed to the final eradication ofmalaria in the developed world.

In 1955, the World Health Organization(W.H.O.) began a program to eradicate malariathroughout the world. The program reliedgreatly upon the application of DDT to controlmosquitoes, with a practice called DDT resid-ual house spraying. As a result of this pro-gram, by1967, malaria was eradicated from alldeveloped countries where malaria was en-

demic. Large areas of tropical Asia and LatinAmerica were freed from the risk of infection. In SubSaharan Af-rica, the campaign was only launched in three countries since itwas not considered feasible in the others. Swaziland and Mozam-bique are examples of countries that have very successfully reducedmalaria infestations with DDT.

Throughout the years, spectacular decreases in malaria infec-tions and deaths were seen after implementing an extensive antimosquito program with DDT. Here are five examples.

INDIA . 1945. Almost1 million malarial deaths reported.

INDIA . 1960. Only a few thousand cases were reported.

REPUBLIC OF C HINA (THE ISLAND OF TAIWAN) . 1945. 1 million cases of malaria. DDT was soon adopted.

REPUBLIC OF C HINA (THE ISLAND OF TAIWAN) . 1969. Only 9 cases were reported, and shortly thereafter, malariawas eradicated from the island.

SKR I LANKA (CEYLON) . 1946. 2.8 million cases of malaria.

SKR I LANKA. 1961. There were only 110 cases were reported.

SKR I LANKA. 1969.

The DDT program was halted, and malaria rebounded with2 million cases.

SOUTH AFRICA (KWAZ UL U NATAL PROVINCE ) . 1996. DDT was stopped and the number of malarial deaths rosefrom 8,000 to 42,000.

SOUTH AFRICA (KWAZ UL U NATAL PROVINCE ) . 2000. There was a400 per cent increase in malaria deaths.

SOUTH AFRICA (KWAZULU NATAL PROVINCE ). Modern day. After the return ofDDT, combined with the introduction ofnew therapies to treat malaria patients, malarial deaths havebeen reduced to less than 50 per year.

VENEZUELA . 1943. 817,000 malarial deaths reported.

VENEZUELA . 1958. Only 800 cases were reported.

In 1970, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences summedup the situation with the following excerpt from their book LifeSciences.

DDT contributed to the final eradication of malaria in the devel-oped world.

Spectacular decreases in malaria infections and deaths wereseen after implementing antimosquito program using DDT.

Our modern day world of politicized science refuses to admitthatDDT has prevented hundreds of millions of deaths with itslifesaving eradication of human diseases.
