I have found though that I also dont make very realistic ones for myself. They are not measurable or even attainable in some instances. Im setting myself up to fail. While this can be very disheartening, it can also be a huge eye opener for me. While I like to make resolutions for myself, a lot of the time I am not open to the change it takes to make those resolutions. I would like you to take a moment, close your eyes, and think back on events that have happened in your life. Were you open to the change in your life that was necessary to make those events possible? Now, open your eyes. Think about what you see in the future. Not just for your own but for the future of Forbes. Dont think of tomorrow, but of a year, two years, and even in five years. Is everything exactly the same or have we opened our minds and hearts to change? Something new and exciting, something inspiring and terrifying at the same time? Do you know what that is? Its change! Change is wonderful, exciting, inspiring, scary, and sometimes altogether terrifying. It is, however, necessary to the future of Forbes. Most or all of you have heard about the HCI informational meetings that have taken place. I hope that you all have been able to attend to hear the proposal that the HCI consultants made for Forbes. If you havent, you can contact Donna Froseth or Pastor Karen and they will go over the proposal with you. Next to happen is the Charge Conference meeting on Sunday, January 12th after worship where members of Forbes will vote on whether or not to accept the proposal, moving it into the implementation phase. Is this information exciting? Yes, absolutely! Is this information scary? Yes. The way I see it though, we have no where to go but up. Forbes has this vision statement: Our vision is to be an open, trusting, accepting community for all ages where Gods Spirit and a Christ-like attitude invite us to risk, try new things, and grow in love and compassion. My one New Years resolution is this, be open to change, be excited and scared about change, but be open. I want Forbes to be a vibrant part of this community, and I want to be a part of that. To do that though I need to be open to the change that comes with it. Blessings to you all this new year. Changing with the New Year

A new year and a new decade has begun. A lot of us, including myself, attempt to make some resolutions to begin our new year. I am, quite honestly, not very good at keeping my resolutions. I have found though that I also don’t make very realistic ones for myself. They are not measurable or even attainable in some instances. I’m setting myself up to fail.

Don’t think of tomorrow, but of a year, two years, and even in five years. Is everything exactly the same or have we opened our minds and hearts to change? Something new and exciting, something inspiring and terrifying at the same time? Do you know what that is? It’s change!

If you haven’t, you can contact Donna Froseth or Pastor Karen and they will go over the proposal with you.

Forbes has this vision statement: Our vision is to be an open, trusting,

accepting community for all ages where God’s Spirit and a Christ-like attitude

invite us to risk, try new things, and grow in love and compassion.

My one New Year’s resolution is this, be open to change, be excited and scared about change, but be open. I want Forbes to be a vibrant part of this community, and I want to be a part of that. To do that though I need to be open to the change that comes with it.

Blessings to you all this new year. Crystal Bushnell

DIDJA KNOW you have responded to the reduction of our deficit. We have reduced our deficit to zero by several generous donations, responses to United Methodist Mission needs, an increase in individual giving and “Finance Team” directed fund transfers. We are grateful to start the New Year in the black.

Thank you for responding to the missions and mini tries of Forbes. We are blessed!!! Our world mission is “United Methodist Mission”. This is how we support the needs of the state, nation and world. You have special monthly envelopes to use in support of this mission.

Our January pasty fundraiser is coming up fast. The dates are January 17th and 18th. Sign up to participate in fellowship and fun. Also, get your orders in early. Great fellowship by all. See you for January sale.

our Administrative Council and Staff-Parish Relations Committee has not made a decision to fill the janitorial position yet. With the holidays and Healthy Church Initiative program, more time is needed to evaluate this need. Look for opportunities to volunteer as a custodian until a decision is made to hire or use volunteers going forward.

“There is no faithfulness like that which ought to between a guide of souls and the person directed by him. They ought continually to regard each other in God, and closely to examine themselves, whether all their thoughts are pure, and all their words directed with Christian discretion. Other affairs are only the things of men; but these are peculiarly the things of God.”

we have the opportunity to grow our faith and leave our legacy to the young people of our church and community. This is the time to vote positive and secure the professional help needed to lead us into the future of faith. Your positive vote, participation, prayers and leadership will continue to keep Forbes a healthy church into the future.

If you have a question, send it to the church office marked, “DIDJA KNOW”, and we will try to answer.

Kwik Trip Gift and Scrip cards will be on sale in the narthex Sunday, January 5th and 19th. Next order date is January 19th. Thank you for your participation. Tara Bryant, Donna Froseth and Walt Kephart are card coordinators. Give us your feedback on continuing this program.

Pastie time! Friday and Saturday, January 17-18th. It’s pastie time with all the trimmings and Forbes pasties are always fresh. Winter is the season for comfort food and those delicious fall harvested vegetables. Potatoes, rutabaga, carrots, and onions are only enhanced with the flavor of beef and pork combined; the ingredients that make a really good pasty. Now add the perfect crust, made by the “dough boys”, to encase those amazing flavors and you have a pastie to remember! If you prefer vegetarian style-we’ll forget the meat-we aim to please. Call Francie at 218-624-4380 by Sunday, January 12 to place an order for family and friends as well as yourself. Call Donna at 218-260-6833 or check the pastie board in the narthex to sign up to work. Forbes is your church and you are responsible in making it work, and besides that, making pasties is a lot of fun! So whether you like your pasty plain or with butter, gravy, apple sauce, cream corn, ketchup, salsa or broth, be our guest and try the best. You wont’ be sorry!
