THIS WEEKS NEWS

Ferrari Maserati of Atlanta’s 20th Anniversary

Ferrari Maserati of Atlanta celebrated the 100th Year of

Maserati, 60th Anniversary of Ferrari in the United

States and the 20th Anniversary for our store with a

“Great Gatsby” style party to introduce the New Ferrari

California “T”. Will Campbell, the store’s General

Manager welcomed several hundred guest and Webb

Collums, the Dealer Principal thanked our devoted client

base and tenured employees including Steven Eckhoff,

Harold Lovinger, Wade Williams and Ken Erwin. Many

may not be aware, but all four of these gentlemen have

been with Ferrari Maserati of Atlanta for the store’s

entire 20 years.

Following the event, Ferrari of Atlanta has scheduled our

California Esperienza Demonstration Event at St. Ives

Country Club for this weekend. We then continue the fall

festivities with the Official Ferrari North America

Hospitality at Petit Le Mans in Braselton, GA.

We hope you to see you all at Road Atlanta.

Limited Edition Ferrari F12 Could be a Modern NART Spyder

According to news reports from the Czech Republic,

the special limited edition Ferrari model set to be

limited to just 10 units and the American market, will

be a Spyder variant of the F12 Berlinetta and an

effective successor to the Ferrari 275 GTS/4 NART

Spyder. Last year, an original NART Spyder sold for

$25 million.

While these rumours remain unconfirmed, they do seem

quite logical. After all, departing Ferrari chairman Luca di

Montezemolo recently said that the model will feature a

color scheme incorporating blue with white racing stripes

as an acknowledgement of the North American Racing

Team.

The special model is penciled in for a debut on October

12th which is just one day before Montezemolo will step

down and make way for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO

Sergio Marchionne as the new Ferrari chairman.

Beyond the possibility of being a Spyder, the limited

edition model is also expected to feature a thoroughly

updated body and interior in a similar vein to the F12

TRS and F12 SP.

In case you didn’t know, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is

powered by a 6.3-litre V12 engine delivering 740 hp.

This powerful engine is linked to a seven-speed dual-

clutch gearbox and rear-wheel-drive setup. Acceleration

from 0-100 km/h is done in three seconds dead while 0-

200 km/h takes just 8.5 seconds. That is 0.4 seconds

faster than the 700 hp-strong Lamborghini Aventador.

The top speed of the car exceeds 340 km/h.

It is quite possible that power for this special edition will

be slightly higher than the typical F12.(Czech Exotics)

Black 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari For Sale

With just 499 units destined for production and only

prolific Ferrari collectors offered the chance to own it,

the LaFerrari is already a collector’s item. As a result,

when one hits the used car market, it isn’t surprising

that the new hybrid hypercar is already demanding

pretty hefty premiums.

As a matter of fact, a rare black example is currently

up for sale in Dubai for 12.5 million in the local

currency. In the U.S, that is the equivalent of $3.4

million! To put that price into perspective, U.S. bound

LaFerraris start at around $1.69 million from the

factory so it is double the cost.

In case you didn’t know, the LaFerrari gets a 6.3 liter

V12 which is connected to an electric motor similar to

the system on the McLaren P1. The Ferrari F150 V12

has an output of 789 hp at 9000 rpm and 700 Nm at

7000 rpm while its electric motor has a maximum

output of 161 hp and 270 Nm of torque. That delivers

a total combined power output of 950 hp, allowing the

new Ferrari Enzo to do 0-100 km/h in less than 3

seconds, 0-300 km/h in 15 seconds and a top speed in

excess of 350 km/h.

Maserati 100 Gathering in Modena Day 1 and 2

As part of Maserati’s ongoing 100th anniversary

celebrations, the Italian company recently held a huge

two-day extravaganza in Modena with dozens of

legendary Maserati models in attendance.

Day 1 saw about 200 Maseratis fill the streets of

Modena with private tours of the Maserati factory also

held throughout the day. Day 2 saw the owners head to

the race track in Cremona before attending an exclusive

gala dinner in Reggia di Venaria, Turin.

Other events Maserati has held to celebrate its

centenary include an exhibition at the AutoWorld

Museum in Belgium, the Road to Modena Tour as well

as a special tour in Japan.

Three Maserati MC12 GT1s on Track!

During the recently held Maserati Centennial

Gathering event at the San Martino del Lago circuit in

Italy, three include Maserati MC12 GT1s hit the track

for some potent and high-paced laps around the tight

and twisty track.

As you can imagine, seeing just one Maserati MC12

GT1 on a racetrack anywhere in the world is a truly

incredible sight and three is on the verge of

overwhelming!

Xcar Goes Analog with the Ferrari F40

We will forever be in love with the Ferrari F40. From its

blunt-force appearance to its 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged

V8 engine living and breathing perilously close to the

driver's head, the F40, the last model designed and built

with input from Enzo Ferrari himself, has been and likely

always will be the Ferrari of Ferraris for automotive

enthusiasts who grew up in the 1980s.

All of this raises an interesting question: is the Ferrari

F40 the best supercar of all time? A case can certainly

be made, and after watching – and, just as importantly,

listening to – all 17 minutes of blood-red Italian glory

from Xcar, you're going to have to try long and hard to

convince us that anything could be sweeter than this

particular Prancing Horse. (Jeremy Korzeniewski)

Luca Di Montezemolo’s 5 Greatest Moments and 5 Greatest Cars at Ferrari

Luca di Montezemolo has become a legend in the

automotive industry. He was the man that helped lead

a failing Ferrari into record profits, unsurpassed

sales, and record-setting Formula One

performances. Now after 23 years as the president of

the Prancing Horse brand, Luca is stepping down next

month. Thanks to differences between him and Sergio

Marchionne, the head of Ferrari parent company Fiat,

Luca has decided that his time with the Italian

automaker needs to come to an end.

To celebrate what he has accomplished, I have

compiled a small list of some of the memorable things

that happened to the company while he was at the

helm, as well as looking at five of the greatest cars

that Ferrari produced during his tenure.

Feel free to comment with your thoughts on his leaving

the company, your favorite Ferrari from the

Montezemolo era, as well as your favorite Ferrari

memories and moments. Let’s send this great man off

with a celebration of what he has accomplished.

You will be missed.

1974 - Manager of Scuderia Ferrari F1

Luca’s first major position at Ferrari was as the manager

of Ferrari’s Scuderia racing team. He took over this role

in 1974. Just one year later, Ferrari took home the

Formula One World Championship with the help of

Driver Niki Lauda. They would repeat the feat again in

1977. From there, he left Ferrari to become the senior

manager of Fiat. Two F1 World Championships and a

significant promotion seem like a healthy start to a

career.

1991 - Return to Ferrari; Righting the Ship

Enzo Ferrari stepped down from running the road car

division of his company in 1971, and he passed in 1988.

During this time, Ferrari had begun to struggle in both

road cars and racing. Luca di Montezemolo went back to

Ferrari as he was appointed president of the Italian

company in 1991.

His first goal was to bring a Formula One World

Championship trophy to Maranello. He immediately

appointed Niki Lauda as a consultant and promoted

team engineer Claudio Lombardi to team manager.

Montezemolo also began a turnaround of the road car

company, taking them from a company with a significant

debt to a profitable business in just a few years.

1996 - The rise of Michael Schumacher

During the first few years of his presidency at Ferrari,

Luca’s F1 team was only able to secure 3rd and 4th

place finishes in the Constructor’s Championship. With

the road division once again profitable, Ferrari had

extra money for driving talent and research-and-

development costs for its F1 cars.

The team hired the explosive and upcoming talent of

Michal Schumacher. In his first year at Ferrari,

Schumacher finished third in the driver’s championship

and carried Ferrari to a second place finish in the

Constructor’s standings. In 1999, just three years after

signing Schumacher, Ferrari was once again the F1

Constructor’s World Champion. It would hold title

continually until 2004, a new consecutive record.

After Schumacher retired, Ferrari would win two more

World Championship titles in 2007 and 2008.

2000 – New Models and Massive Sales

Starting around the year 2000 Ferrari’s road division

started cranking things up. Over the next few years,

Montezemolo would oversee some of the company’s

greatest road cars of all time. This surge of new and

exciting cars would also see sales skyrocket. It is

estimated that Ferrari as a brand has only sold around

130,000 cars in its entire lifetime. More than half of

that number, nearly 79,000, have been sold since the

year 2000. Ferrari had finally returned to its place as

the kind of the automotive world thanks to the vision

and guidance of Luca di Montezemolo.

2012 – The LaFerrari and Limited Sales

Luca’s last great moment in Ferrari history started in

2012. After more than a decade of sales increases and

supercar domination, Luca makes that decision that

Ferrari needs to start limiting its production to save the

brand’s exclusive nature. In 1999 Ferrari sold 3,775

cars. By 2012, that number had nearly doubled to 7,318.

Luca saw this is a recipe for disaster as the unique and

exclusive nature of the Ferrari badge was being watered

down by market saturation. To combat this, Luca

declared that Ferarri would begin capping yearly

production to just 7,000 units.

During this time, Ferrari was also preparing to release its

most powerful and fastest road car ever, the LaFerrari.

As Luca steps down from his position next month,

Ferrari is the most valuable brand the world, has the

most exclusive customers in the world, and it makes

some of the most powerful cars in the world.

That is one hell of a legacy.

The Cars

During his tenure at Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo

oversaw the release of dozens of powerful and exotic

machines that proudly wore the Prancing Horse on their

noses. This is a look at five of the most important.

456 GT

It may not be the prettiest, the fastest, or the most

well-known Ferrari out there, but the 456 GT was

important for one main reason. It had a V-12 engine

crammed into its nose. The 456 was the first front-

engine car that Ferrari had made since the 365 GTB4

in 1968. It had an aluminum body and styling by

Pininfarina . This car is the reason we have machines

like the Ferrari F12 berlinetta today. For that one fact

alone, it earns a spot in our list. Moreover, it was also

the birth of an all-new V-12 engine. Ferrari had not

developed a new twelve-cylinder unit since the flat

“boxer” twelve of the 1970s.

1999 Ferrari 360 Modena

If the 456 GT revived the front-engine GT Ferrari, then

the 360 redefined the mid-engined Ferrari. The 360

Modena was more than a replacement for the F355.

It debuted an entirely fresh and new style that dictated

the brands visual trajectory for more than a decade, and

it was the first Ferrari to be built completely from

aluminum; the body, chassis and suspension was all

made from the alloy. That meant the 360 was 40-percent

stiffer than the old F355 and it weighed an astonishing

28-percent less. This car pioneered the extensive use of

aluminum that Ferrari uses today in every one of its road

cars.

2002 Ferrari Enzo

The mighty F40 was the last car created that Ferrari

Enzo himself had any input. It was launched just

before his death, and it set a new world benchmark for

performance, speed and exotic material construction

with its carbon-fiber body. The next iteration of the

Ferrari Super Car, the Enzo, came with a 6.0-liter, V-

12 engine mounted behind the front seats and driving

the rear wheels. It had 651 horsepower and 485

pound-feet of twist. It would hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds

and boasted a top speed of 221 mph.

It was the fastest and most powerful street legal

machine Ferrari had ever created. Only 400 were

made, making them very rare and valuable today.

It also served as a base for many cars that were to

come after. It was the backbone for the FXX racing car

program, it served as a blueprint for the Maserati

MC12, and it was used by Ferrari collector James

Glickenhouse as the platform for his custom Ferrari

P4/5 by Pininfarina.

2010 599 GTO

The GTO badge is a very sacred set of letters that

Ferrari had only used twice in its past. It is used to

designate a homologation version of a racing car, and

every car that has worn it was essentially a road legal

racer. The 599 GTO was based on what Ferrari learned

with the 599XX prototype cars. It used a modified

version of the engine from the Enzo with 661

horsepower, but it was not quite as quick as the mid-

engined monster that supplied its engine. The 0-to-60

sprint took 3.3 seconds and the top speed was only 208

mph.

Still, this was a track car, so its forte was handling. It

would make it around the Ferrari test track more than

one full second faster than the Enzo could. For that,

Ferrari called it “the company’s fastest ever road car.”

Ferrari made only 599 of these machines with about 125

coming to the States.

2014 Ferrari La Ferrari

The LaFerrari is a car that needs no real introduction.

It is one of the last cars to bear the Luca di

Montezemolo seal of approval, and it is easily the

most impressive machine that Ferrari created during

his 23 years as chairman of the company. It is a

modern hybrid supercar that makes use of a HY-

KERS energy recovery system like the one used in

Formula One cars.

The KERS unit itself is only good for 161 horsepower,

but that unit is bolted to a 6.3-liter V-12 that makes

789 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. When

they are working in tandem, the total power output of

the new Lahorsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.

Ferrari claims the 0-to-60 takes less than 3 seconds

and the top speed hovers in the 220-mph range.

This car is essentially a rolling science experiment of

F1 technology. The carbon-fiber monocoque was

designed by Ferrari’s F1 technical director, and it

features the third-generation E-Diff electronic

differential.

As it stands, the Ferrari LaFerrari is the fastest and most

extreme car ever to roll out of the factory. I don’t want to

see Luca di Montezemolo leave, but the LaFerrari sure

makes an impressive swan song. (Christian Moe)

Future Ferrari Engines will be Turbocharged or Hybrid

With all the influx happening within Ferrari these days,

you can at least count on one thing happening moving

forward; the Italian automaker will continue to reduce

carbon-dioxide emissions by 20 percent by 2021. In

order to accomplish that, Ferrari powertrain director

Vittorio Dini told Automotive News that the company will

continue down the path of using turbochargers on its V-8

engines and combining hybrid systems with its V-12

engines.

Ferrari already has two cars using a variation of each

engine system. The California T already features a

turbocharged V-8, becoming the first production

turbocharged Ferrari since the iconic F40.

On the flip-side, the LaFerrari became the first Ferrari

to use a hybrid system, which was combined with a

6.3-liter V-12 to produce a combined 963 horsepower.

Moving forward, Dini told Automotive News that all V-

8-powered Ferraris will use turbochargers, including

the next iterations of the 458 Italia and the 458

Spider, which are scheduled to arrive in 2015 and

2016, respectively. The challenge with these

turbocharged V-8 engines would be to decrease their

displacements while increasing their output numbers.

A similar re-engineering is also expected to happen to

the Ferrari FF and F12berlinetta , two models that

currently use V-12 engines. Dini stopped short of

officially confirming plans to use hybrid technology on

both models, but don’t be surprised if the next FF

arrives in 2016 with a hybrid system of its own. Same

with the next F12berlinetta, which Ferrari may release

in 2017 with modified version of the hybrid system.

ITALIAN HEART, AMERICAN BLOOD

Tom Meade was a Californian dreamer who infiltrated

Modena’s world-renowned “carrozziere” during the

1960s, creating a stunning series of one-off specials.

We remember a man who was as much adventurer as

car designer.

The film Raiders of the Lost Ark originated in producer

George Lucas’ desire to update the boys’ own serials

or “chapter plays” that accompanied feature films in

1930s US cinema. It was expertly done, even down to

the map graphic that charted Indiana Jones’ fearless

globe-trotting.

True characters in the world of car design are rare, but

there are shades of Harrison Ford’s iconic creation in

the tale of Tom Meade. Meade, who passed away last

year aged 74, may not have left a legacy as rich as the

likes of Sergio Pininfarina or Sergio Scaglietti’s, but his

career is intertwined with the greats, his output

characterized by a vision and determination that was

powerful enough to secure the approbation of Enzo

Ferrari himself.

Most of all, though, Meade was an adventurer, a man

with a natural eye for a beautiful car, aided and

abetted by a lust for life that Ernest Hemingway would

recognize.

His early years were picturesque. Meade’s father, a

professional wrestler, died while his mother was still

pregnant. He was born in Hollywood in 1939, and

flunked school. A spell in the US navy sated his

wanderlust, and for a while he lived in Australia.

He was already an accomplished accumulator of life

experience, despite his youth. Back in California, in

1960, he had the moment that would shape his

destiny.

Forbes Friday Market Report September 26th, 2014

For More Information Please Contact Craig Forbes at (678) 802-5000 or [email protected]

Walking past a garage, he spotted a car whose shape

was utterly unlike anything else he would have seen at

the time, even in car-centric Los Angeles. It turned out to

be a Ferrari 500 TRC, a rare bird then and now, and part

of that sub-genre of competition-bred Ferraris that was

powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. Its owner

told him that there was a warehouse in Italy full of them,

and Meade was so spell-bound he vowed there and then

to travel to Europe on an automotive treasure hunt.

Cue the Raiders-style map. With $50 in his pocket, he

hitched across the US to New Orleans, and managed to

talk his way into a job as mess boy on board a

Norwegian freighter. After 35 days traversing choppy

waters, Meade arrived in the port of Stavanger, headed

to England, bought a motorbike and set off across

Europe with a friend. According to some accounts, the

duo spent six months sleeping on the roof of a Majorcan

hotel before Meade finally made it to Italy.

Among other encounters, he was introduced to the film

producer Dino De Laurentiis, and wound up opposite

David Niven in the 1961 film The Best Of Enemies.

(Meade’s son has heard about this part of his father’s

life, but has never spotted him in the movie. It might be

apocryphal.) Of the fabled car warehouse, though, there

was no sign. Having come this far, Meade was directed

towards Modena, home to Maserati and numerous

carrozzerie, although he was actually trying to get to

Maranello. Typically, he undertook the journey on a

Vespa.

Fortune favors the brave. But luck also plays its part.

Arriving at the Maserati factory after hours, Meade

talked his way in, and chanced upon race director

Guerino Bertocchi. He graciously showed him around,

and when Tom spotted an old racing Maserati –

destined to be dismantled and dumped, as was

customary back then, as sacrilegious as it now seems

– he immediately began hustling to buy it. It was the

first in a lifetime of deal-making, and set the tone.

Enter

This particular car turned out to be a 350S, raced by

the great Hans Herrmann in the 1957 1,000 Miglia,

later fitted with a V12 engine, and raced at several

other notable events. This remarkable provenance

didn’t mean a lot in 1961. A local farmer agreed to let

him store it in an out-building, and Tom even slept

beside it as a deterrent to thieves. In the process of

rebuilding the car, Tom was introduced to a friend of

Bertocchi’s, the coachbuilder Luciano Bonacini (of Neri

& Bonacini). He was known to bed down on their

workshop floor, too.

Nothing about Tom Meade’s life was premeditated.

Nothing about Tom Meade’s life was premeditated. He

just did what he did, and rode the waves like the

Californian surfer he resembled. Reanimating the

Maserati meant he soon knew where every part and

component in the factory was stored and, with his

Italian fast improving, he proved to be an invaluable

asset. So, Maserati decided to employ him on a part-

time basis.

Then for another fateful moment; the body on Tom’s

rescue project was in poor shape, so Bertocchi

introduced him to the great body fabricator Medardo

Fantuzzi, the man responsible for so many era-defining

sports and racing cars (including the Maserati A6 GCS,

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and, indeed, the very car

Meade was repairing). Fantuzzi warmed to the

charismatic young American and effectively took him on

as an apprentice. The Mozart of body making was

tutoring Tom Meade in his music.

Now the fun could really begin. ‘It was an adventure.

Nobody cared about making money, beyond food and

rent. It was cars, cars, cars, and to hell with everything

else,’ Meade once said. Steve McQueen had a similar

mantra, though his stellar acting career allowed him to

indulge his passion more deeply than Tom managed. As

his son notes, ‘There were times when he had a ton of

money and times when he was broke. But whatever was

happening, there were various cars, engines and

components he would never part with.’

Meade sold his Maserati in the US, for a considerable

profit. It’s believed that at least two Ferrari 250 GTOs, a

P3 and other gems passed through his hands in the

1960s, back when these extraordinarily valuable cars

were just another bunch of fading and unloved ex-racing

stars. Indeed, he toyed with using a GTO as the basis of

the now celebrated 250 Nembo Spider, which he helped

create for Neri & Bonacini, before opting for a 250 PF

cabriolet as the donor vehicle instead. Four Nembos

were made, including a car that apparently headed to

Beirut and was presumed lost. In fact, we can

exclusively reveal here that this car, chassis number

2707, was later repurchased by Meade and restored to

his collection.

By now Meade had begun wheeling and dealing for

wealthy American clients, notably Richard Merritt, the

founder of the Ferrari Club of America, and Peter

Sachs (of Goldman Sachs) sourcing various Italian

exotics and working his contacts in Italy and the US.

(He once found himself being pursued by the police

while delivering a car in Arizona, but was more worried

about what would happen to his dog Meccanico if they

caught him.)

His apartment overlooked Modena’s autodromo and

he also rented a workspace, which was soon teeming

with activity. In the late 1960s, he had accumulated

enough engines, chassis hardware and cash to begin

realizing the designs in his head. The resulting series

of cars, the Thomassima 1, 2, and 3, (the name

meaning “the maximum from Tom) might be footnotes

in Modena’s carrozzeria hagiography, but they are

significant ones, especially for students of Italian car

design.

The first, and least well-known, used a Ferrari 250GT

chassis, but was lost along with countless other art

and literary treasures when the Arno River

catastrophically flooded Florence in November 1966.

Thomassima 2 is something of a masterpiece, not

least because, while clearly inspired by Ferrari’s

remarkable 1967 Daytona 24 hours-winning P3/4, it

pumps up that car’s proportions to an almost

cartoonish degree. Meade and his team of

moonlighting Maserati and Ferrari engineers used

marine plywood to work up the car’s shape. Beneath

its incredible form was a tubular space frame chassis

and mounted at the rear of that was a 3.0-litre Ferrari

V12 borrowed from a 250 GT.

The third Meade speciale is arguably the most

memorable, and was certainly his favorite. It’s probably

also the one that most marries the sensuousness

characteristic of Modena in that period with the rather

less subtle manifestation of automotive muscle usually

associated with Meade’s homeland. It caused uproar

when it was displayed at the 1969 Turin motor show,

prompted America’s number one prime time current

affairs show 60 Minutes to send a crew to Modena to

film a segment on Tom, and starred on the cover of the

biggest selling US car magazine, Road & Track,

amongst others. Let’s also not forget Meade’s riposte to

the Shelby Daytona, brilliantly called the Anti-Cobra, and

based on a Maserati WRE chassis. A star was born. Or

maybe not.

Tom left Italy under a cloud in the 1970s, put his cars

and vast collection of engines and parts in secure

storage and spent most of the next two decades

travelling in Asia. His son remembers his father

reminiscing about staying in $1 a night hotels and

spending the same on food and drink daily. ‘He had a

fun life,’ he says with a knowing smile. ‘He was a good

looking guy, with a real free spirit.’ Cars could take a

back seat, for a while at least.

Tom returned to LA in 1993 to look after his mother,

and began reassembling his assets. He had a long

gestating new project; a carbon fiber bodied supercar

powered by the engine from Ferrari’s 1990s 333 SP

endurance racer. But illness intervened, and

Thomassima 4 was not to be. Following Tom Meade’s

sad passing, his son, a highly successful figure in the

luxury goods world, now also finds himself curator of

his father’s work. His remarkable legacy could not be

in better hands. (Jason Barlow)

One-Off 2015 Ferrari F12 SP America Snapped in Public

The one-off Ferrari F12 SP America has been

snapped on the road for the very first time at a

Wegmans car park in the United States. Created as a

very special one-off variant of the F12 Berlinetta, the

SP America is speculated to have cost in the region of

$3-4 million.

The car was commissioned by the CEO of Wegmans,

Danny Wegman. Collectively, his family has a net

worth of over $3 billion.

Obviously based on the F12, the Ferrari F12 SP

America features thoroughly updated styling including a

new front end with a new bonnet, wheel arches, front

bumper and splitter, side skirts, wheels, bootlid spoiler,

rear bumper, B-pillars and a new aggressive rear

diffuser.

Under the hood, the Ferrari F12 SP America’s 6.3-litre

V12 engine likely delivers 740 hp and 509lb-ft of torque,

enough for a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.1 seconds with

the 200 km/h milestone achieved in 8.5 seconds.

With this being said, no confirmation has been given if

the F12 SP America does in fact feature an un-tweaked

F12 Berlinetta engine or if it has been upgraded.

Ferrari Exhaust Sounds Orchestra at Spa

We love the sounds of Italian cars and not many sound

better than Ferraris. During the week, Belgium’s famous

Spa Francorchamps circuit played host to a very special

Ferrari Owner’s Day. The event saw some of the

greatest even Ferrari models ever produced in

attendance with all hitting the incredible circuit which

recently hosted the Belgian Grand Prix 2014 a couple of

weeks ago.

Here we have two videos featuring a number of

Ferraris including a handful of 458s and Speciales.

The star of the show was arguably a Sliver LaFerrari!

Also in attendance were a number of 430 Scuderias

and 16Ms and a stunning black Enzo! Turn up the

volume to enjoy the sounds of the V8s and V12s!

Ferrari 458 Speciale A is Most Powerful Prancing Horse Convertible Ever

Let all of the speculation finally end because the

convertible version of the Ferrari 458 Speciale is here.

However, the Prancing Horse isn't calling it a spider;

instead it's dubbed the 458 Speciale A, which stands

for Aperta or "open" in English. It's also limited to a

scant 499 cars, a few more than the 458 first rumored.

Regardless of its name or production numbers, what

really matters is Ferrari's claim that this is it’s the most

powerful drop-top production model ever. That is thanks

to the same 4.5-liter V8 from the hardtop Speciale, with

597 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque.

The aluminum-retracting top doesn't change

performance much, while letting the wind blow through

the owner's hair at ludicrous speeds. Ferrari claims the

setup adds about 110 pounds (50 kilograms) to the

overall weight and can open or close within 14 seconds.

Acceleration to 62 miles per hour is reported at 3.0

seconds, about a tenth slower than the coupe, and the

Aperta can hustle to 124 mph in 9.5 seconds.

The 458 Speciale A debuting at the Paris Motor Show

will wear a yellow body with a Blue Nart and Bianco

Avus stripe running from nose to tail. The cockpit will

have a matching yellow color for the seats along with

Alcantara, and the door panels, center tunnel and tread

plates will be covered in blue carbon fiber. (Chris Bruce)

TIPS

Reasons for Smoke and Water to Come From the Exhaust Pipe

Cars run on an internal combustion engine, where a

flammable liquid is ignited in engine cylinders, pushing

pistons and powering the engine. When the piston has

been pushed, the smoke generated is thrust out of your

car through its exhaust system and finally through the

tail pipe. It is not uncommon to see water and smoke

coming out of the tail pipe for a variety of reasons. Have

a question? Get an answer from a mechanic now!

What Is Wrong With Your Vehicle if There Is White

Smoke & Water Coming Out of Your Muffler?

Water & White Smoke Coming Out of the Tail Pipes

Condensation

One cause of water coming out of your tail pipe,

especially on early mornings, is simple condensation.

Overnight the exhaust system's metal cools down to

the ambient temperature. When you start your car, it

rapidly becomes much hotter than the air surrounding

it. The result is condensation forming around and

inside of the exhaust system and tail pipe. This liquid

is then pushed out with the exhaust and gives the

appearance that your car is leaking water.

Water Vapor

When the engine turns over quickly, it may expel what

appears to be unusual smoke coming out of the tail

pipe. This is most likely steam from the exhaust

manifold heating up and vaporizing the liquid

condensation that can build up in the exhaust system.

What you could be seeing is water vapor being

expelled from the tail pipe.

Smoke While Running

Your exhaust system is designed to carry the exhaust,

or smoke from combustion that has already been used

by the pistons in the engine, out through the tail pipe.

While exhaust isn't typically obvious as it's expelled

from the car, especially if the vehicle is equipped with

a catalytic converter, if the temperature is cooler, the

exhaust may just be more apparent. This is the same

effect as when you can see your breath when it is cold

outside.

White Exhaust at Normal Operating Temperature

If the exhaust is consistently emitting white smoke when

it is not cold outside, and continues or starts after the

engine has been running for a while, there could be a

problem with your engine's cooling system. To be sure,

you should consult a mechanic. (Micah McDunnigan)

The LEGO X Ferrari Collection May Be The Coolest Thing Made Of Bricks

From Cameron’s Dad’s car in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, to

the posters of Italian supercars that plastered all of our

walls growing up, we all love Ferraris. There was only

really one true problem with ownership–the price tag.

Now, thanks to LEGO, we can all own a Ferrari. The

new LEGO x Ferrari collection was developed

specifically for sale at Shell stations in Singapore and

Hong Kong (apparently we have really boring gas

stations in the US), but hopefully we’ll be able to buy

them soon. In the meantime, feel free to drool over the

collection that includes:

Ferrari F138, Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta,

Ferrari 512S, Shell Station, Finish Line / Podium and

Shell Tanker. You might have to put up another shelf

in your office just to make way for the collection’s US

release. (Dahl)

Zen Is Your New Smart Thermostat

You can have a smart home thermostat that controls

everything but the weather itself, but at the end of the

day is all that really necessary? Your thermostat is

designed to do one thing–control the temperature of

your pad–but most of them don’t do it very well when

you’re not physically in your place. ZEN is a new, good

looking thermostat that doesn’t aim to reinvent the

wheel, just improve upon it. You can control the

temperature of your home from anywhere using your

smartphone and/or the intuitive controls built in to the

ZEN. Push up to turn the temperature up. Push near

the bottom to turn the temperature down. The LED

screen provides clear and simple feedback for your

commands, and the icons are only displayed when it’s

absolutely necessary.

Petit Le Mans October 1-4

The Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda (French for little

Le Mans) is a sports car endurance race held annually

at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, USA. It uses

the rules established for the 24 hours of Le Mans by

the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), which are

slightly modified if necessary, mainly to allow

additional cars to compete.

The race was founded by Road Atlanta owner Don

Panoz and first run on October 10, 1998 as part of the

IMSA season. The 1999 edition was one of the original

events of the American Le Mans Series. This year will

mark the 2nd Annual Intercontinental Le Mans Cup,

which connects the races in North America, Europe

and Asia.

For More Information Please Contact Craig Forbes at (678) 802-5000 or [email protected]

The Petit Le Mans covers a maximum of 1,000 miles

(1,600 km) (which is approximately 394 laps) or a

maximum of 10 hours, whichever comes first; only once,

in the rain-stopped 2009 race, has the leading team

failed to complete 1,000 miles (1,600 km). In addition to

the overall race, teams of two or three drivers per car

compete for class victories in four different classes of

cars, two for Le Mans prototypes and two for grand

tourer cars. Class winners of this event receive an

automatic invitation to the following year's 24 Hours of

Le Mans.

Ferrari of Atlanta Rally to Petit Le Mans

Ferrari of Atlanta welcomes Ferrari North America for

this Year’s Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on October

4th, 2014. To celebrate the 60th Anniversary in America,

Ferrari has created a Limited Edition “Petit Le Mans”

hood sticker for those that join the rally from Ferrari of

Atlanta to the track on the morning of the race. Each

participating car will receive a hood decal at the store

while coffee and pastries are served.

The procession of cars will then leave the store at

8:30AM to rally to the track where the members of the

procession will be allowed entry into the Ferrari Car

Corral. Those that have pre-ordered their Ferrari VIP

Hospitality passes will be in close proximity to the

viewing area for the race.

Please contact your representative salesperson at

678-802-5000 to RSVP for the Rally. We hope to see

you there!
