Site Labourer

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a young person who would like to work as a Site Labourer for a local organisation involved in several industries including civil engineering, highways and rail to name a few. Working on a local high profile highways project, the young person will be required to support the trades with their duties as well as keeping the site tidy. Due to the nature of the organisations business, once this project has been completed, the young person may be required to travel to sites further afield though transport will be provided. Previous experience is not required however a valid CSCS card is essential. The young person will also be subject to random drug tests and therefore will need to be drug free. PPE will be supplied. Full time hours per week- 1 year- National Minimum wage

Applicants for these positions must be 18- 24 years old, homeless or at risk of homelessness. In addition they may be an ex-offender committed to not re-offending or, a care leaver and/or have a learning difficulty.

Applications are particularly welcomed from candidates in the SO14-SO19 postcodes living in city council tenanted homes or in a Southampton hostel.

Music therapists use music and sound to help improve people's emotional wellbeing, relieve stress and improve confidence. If you have a high level of musical ability and would like to use your communication skills to help people improve their lives, this could be the job for you. In this role you will need to be able to relate well to all kinds of different people. You will also need to be non-judgemental and enjoy helping people. To get into this job you will need a master’s qualification in music therapy. To do a master’s course you will need a diploma or degree in music, or a degree in psychology or education.

Entry Requirements: To work as a state-registered music therapist, you must be registered with the Health and Care Professions council (HCPC). You can only register if you have completed a master’s qualification accredited by the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT) and recognised by the HCPC.

To get on to a master’s in music therapy, you will usually need a three-year diploma or graduateship from a college of music, or a degree in music from a university.

You may be accepted with a degree in education or psychology, as long as you have a high standard of musical ability.

Many institutions will also expect you to have experience of working with children, people with mental health issues or learning disabilities.

With some NHS Trusts, you could start out as an assistant therapist. For this role, you may not need any qualifications, but relevant paid or voluntary experience would be useful.

TRAINEESHIPS

If you need more experience

If you feel you’re not ready for an apprenticeship, a traineeship is a course designed to prepare you for one.

You can apply for a traineeship if you’re:

eligible to work in England unemployed and have little or no work experience

aged 16 to 18 and qualified below Level 3, or aged 19 to 24 and qualified below Level 2

A traineeship is a course to get you ready for work or an apprenticeship. It can take up to 6 months.

You’ll get:

help with English and maths (if you need it) a work experience placement lasting at least 6 weeks

You won’t be paid, but your employers can sometimes give you expenses for things like travel and meals.

The National Careers Service has advice on writing applications and what to do at interviews.

You can leave school on the last Friday in June, as long as you’ll have turned 16 by the end of that school year’s summer holidays. However, you may need to stay in some form of education or training for longer.
