Chill For Young Carers aged 5 – 17 Easter 2019 Hey everyone! The Young Carers team has had a busy few months. We have now restructured the team. Laura Perry has jumped into the shoes of Steve and will be organising and running our activities and breaks programme. She will also run our ICare wellbeing group for children over 11. Lindsey Clay is our designated Young Carers Support Officer, focusing on assessments and support to young carers of all ages. She will also run our Positive Penguin wellbeing group and Speak Out Young Carers participation group. Karla Neblett has moved on to pastures new. She will be sadly missed by the team and those young carers she has worked with. We have been having lots of fun in our Positive Penguin and ICare Wellbeing groups, focusing on recognising and understanding feelings and finding tools to build resilience. Look out for the dates of the next Positive Penguins group overleaf. We have lots of exciting things happening in April and May. If your child is nervous about joining in please come along to our New Young Carers Café where you and your child will have the chance to ask any questions and meet the team. Finally it would be great to see as many of you as possible at our Greatest Showman Family Sing-a-long event. We’ve enclosed some lyrics to get you warmed up! Take care Jo Young Carers Service Manager

If you look after someone, who looks after you?

I am not a stranger to the darkHide away, they say‘Cause we don’t want your broken partsI’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scarsRun away, they sayNo one’ll love you as you are

CHORUS But I won’t let them break me down to dustI know that there’s a place for usFor we are gloriousWhen the sharpest words wanna cut me downI’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them outI am brave, I am bruisedI am who I’m meant to be, this is meLook out ‘cause here I comeAnd I’m marching on to the beat I drumI’m not scared to be seenI make no apologies, this is meOh-oh-oh-oh x 5

Another round of bullets hits my skinWell, fire away ‘cause today, I won’t let the shame sink inWe are bursting through the barricades andReaching for the sun (we are warriors)Yeah, that’s what we’ve become (yeah, that’s what we’ve become)

CHORUS

This is meand I know that I deserve your love (Oh-oh-oh-oh) ‘cause there’s nothing I’m not worthy of(Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh)When the sharpest words wanna cut me downI’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them outThis is brave, this is proofThis is who I’m meant to be, this is meLook out ‘cause here I come (look out ‘cause here I come)And I’m marching on to the beat I drum (marching on, marching, marching on)I’m not scared to be seenI make no apologies, this is meWhen the sharpest words wanna cut me downI’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them outI’m gonna send a floodGonna drown them outOhThis is me
