Martha Circle (UMW) meets the Second Monday of every month at 1pm in the Fellowship Hall at the church. All ladies of the church, and other friends, are wel-come to attend this meeting. • Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation (FWPR) has been partnering with the Outreach Committee of Faith UMC for the past two years to bring these events to the public.
• Faith Church provides space and they provide
everything else. • Additional partners who work with FWPR to
make these events successful are Fort Wayne United and Fort Wayne Police Department.
• Everyone is welcome to attend.
SPOTLIGHT Spotlight is a new Q & A feature designed to help us get to know our Faith Church family. The spotlight is on Angela (Angie) Hayden!
Name something people would be surprised to learn about you? I lived in LA for 10 years. During that time I was a fashion designer of contemporary ladies dresses and sportswear that hung in Nordstrom and specialty boutiques nationwide under the Perry White label. Also, in high school I was a track star in the 80-yard hurdles...2nd fastest in the state two years in a row.
At which store would you like to max-out your credit card? Selfridges in England, Nordstrom, Restoration Hardware, Pot-tery Barn, Apple Store, Whole Foods, Burlington, DSW...pretty much anywhere but that’s the old Angie. I’m on a cash budget now so if I don’t have the money to buy some-thing, I don’t charge it.
Choose a movie title for the story of your life?
“The Matrix” because déjà vu is real and “The Revenant” be-cause life sometimes does maul you like a bear.
What's your role at Faith UMC and how did you wind up here? I chair the Nurture committee, I’m editor of Tidings and serve on Outreach. I wound up at Faith due to my parents transfer-ring over from Turner Chapel AME and becoming members here. When I moved back to Ft. Wayne I wanted to attend church with my family and joined when Pastor Jack Scott was the head minister. I did leave for a period of time years later but eventually returned.
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
To be bulletproof like Superman and Luke Cage.
What are your hobbies?
I have a serious Netflix habit but don’t know if that can be classified as a hobby. I’ve always been an avid reader, LOVE musical theatre, films, ballet and I find cooking relaxing as well.
Who do you find inspiring?
Members of my family who were, and are, activists. They influenced me to become one i.e. my late father, Bill Hay-den, my mom, Wil Hayden and my late uncle, Dr. B.K. Stuart.
Favorite gospel song?
“The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power” by Andrae Crouch.
Name three things still left on your bucket list?
Show my original line of ladies apparel at New York fashion week and walk the runway after the models to take a bow, visit the palace at Versailles and take a leisurely vacation to countries around the world I haven’t seen yet.
What's your life philosophy? Keep God first, help others, live and let live and stay in your lane.

Name something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Eric: I was raised on a farm in Auburn, Indiana. Rob: I had heart attack and almost died in 2015.
At which store would you like to max-out your credit card? Eric: Lowes. Rob: Hobby Lobby.
Choose a movie title for the story of your life?
Eric: “The Guy that Loves Sweets" Rob: “Still in a Journey”
What's your role at Faith UMC and how did you wind up here? Eric: I am on the trustee committee. I ended up at Faith 6 months after visiting the church. We were church shopping until God confirmed with both Rob and I that Faith is where we needed to be. Rob: I serve on Nurture and I’m one of the pastors. We were not getting fed so we began the journey of looking for a place that we along with our kids could be fed and become involved. After coming and seek-ing the will of God for our family we felt Faith is where we were to be and serve.
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose? Eric: Read people's minds. Rob: To be invisible.
What are your hobbies? Eric: Yard work and reading. Rob: Shopping, gardening and gospel music.
Who do you find inspiring? Eric: The power of one person to change the world. Rob: My mom, Bishop T.D. Jakes.
Favorite gospel song? Eric: Worthy is the Lamb. Rob: Behold the Lamb.
Name three things still left on your bucket list? Eric: Learn the piano, live abroad and visit Wiscon-sin. Rob: Go to Israel, visit the Vatican and to be able to adopt.
What's your life philosophy? Eric: Work hard to secure your future. Rob: Live life! Be authentic, make God first in your life and help someone less fortunate than you along the way.

Living Her Faith: Methodist Harriet Tubman. . . Submitted by Paul Ricketts
(c. 1821-Mar. 10, 1913). Abolitionist. Tubman was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
She was born a slave in Dor-chester County, Maryland but would grow up to become a liberator and abolitionist. She was first named Araminta but later changed her name to Har-riet.
Early in life, she suffered a traumatic head wound when an irate slave owner threw a heavy metal weight intending to hit another slave, but hitting her instead. The injury caused diz-ziness, pain, and spells of hy-persomnia which occurred throughout her life. After her injury, Tubman began experi-encing strange visions and viv-id dreams which she ascribed to premonitions from God. These experiences, combined with her Methodist upbringing, led her to become devoutly re-ligious.
In 1849 she escaped from slav-ery and was a fugitive slave. Tubman became one of the leaders in the work of the Un-derground Railroad. She was given the name "Moses." John Brown, the abolitionist who seized the U.S. arsenal at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, called her "General Tubman." She helped more than 300 slaves to freedom as a major "conductor" on the Under-ground Railroad.

TRUSTEES—Meets the first Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. Members for 2019 are Tom Bice, Chair, Wil Hayden, James Williams, Robert Taylor and Eric Westrick. They are planning improvement projects to keep our church in good repair. NURTURE— Meets the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. The Nurture team is responsible for the care of church members through events, studies, and worship. Members for 2019 are Angie Hayden, Chair, Katie Middleton, Barb Ashby, Dolly Bunting, Carol Whitner, Dierdre McLemore, Vivi-an Johnson, Robert Stamper, Paul Ricketts, Jeanette Bissontz and Cathy Bice. DARE-TO-CARE—Please be sure to call the church yourself or have your family notify the church if you are ill, hospitalized or in a rehabilitation hospital. These facilities do not notify your church any-more so we have to rely on you and your family. Members for 2019 are Carol Whitner, Dierdre McLemore, Robert Stamper and Jeanette Bissontz. OUTREACH— Meets the first Sunday of the month immediately following worship service. Their goal is to plan events that involve the neighborhood and other parts of the community. Members for 2019 are Greta McKinney, Chair, Darryl Middleton, Tom Cook, Jomare Bowers-Mizzell, Carol Miller and Angie Hayden. FINANCE—Meets the third Tuesday of the month at 5:30. Members for 2019 are Mike Bynum, Chair, John Agnew, Church Treasurer, Milt Ashby, Carol Cartwright, Carol Miller, Jomare Bowers-Mizzell, James Williams, Robert Taylor and Cathy Bice. SPRC—Meets the first Wednesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m. Members for 2019 are Cathy Bice, Chair, Jovon Johnson, Jomare Bowers-Mizzell, Jim Pose, Brooke Ridley, James Williams and Robert Taylor. CHURCH COUNCIL—Meets quarterly. Members for 2019 are Robert Taylor, Chair, Elizabeth Miz-zell, Pastor Melissa Fisher, Tom Bice, Cathy Bice, John Agnew, Mike Bynum, Angie Hayden, Jovon Johnson, Greta McKinney and James Williams. YOUTH—Youth meets at 5:30 on Thursday nights. They do homework until 5:45 and then have sup-per. After supper they break into individual groups according to age for study until 7:30. Jaci Stevens is the youth group leader. SMALL GROUPS—The NE group meets at 6:00 at the home of John and Roberta Agnew. There is one group Sunday morning at 9:00 and one after worship at 11:45.
