UTM STEERS (32) Max. 250.50p/kg & £1611 A grand show of steers forward being headlined by Jean, Tony & Leon’s usual
quality which saw an exceptional young Limousin steer race to 250.50p/kg or
£1450. An outstanding entry from the Hicks family of Bristol met a rapturous
audience to top at a huge 247.50p/kg or £1611 for corking Limousin steers with
others to 233.50p/kg or £1559. Heavy weight Charolais from the same home
sold to 229.50p/kg or £1556, £1535, £1489, £1462 and £1409. A gorgeous
selection of Charolais from MJ & NM Coombe of Weymouth sold to 229.50p/kg,
224.50p/kg and 223.50p/kg or £1409, £1377 and £1332. Heavy Simmentals
from Waddon Farm Ltd well sold to 209.50p/kg twice or £1487 and £1405. A
single stocky Blue steer from FJ Lessey & Son looks well sold to 200.50p/kg or
£1207. A tremendous Friesian steer from DO Webb a huge sell to 193p/kg or
£1350. Angus again from Waddon Farm flew to £1340 or 208.50p/kg. HG
Davey’s best Angus steer sold to 213.50p/kg or £1048. Thick Herefords from PJ
Harvey really took the eye selling to 207.50p/kg and 201.50p/kg or £1450 and
£1413. Quality is lapped up and in serious demand. Frome is the place to sell.
UTM HEIFERS (25) Max. 261.50p/kg & £1546 Market records broken again! A beauty of a Limousin heifer from Jean, Tony &
Leon Waterman stole the show yet again racing to a huge 261.50p/kg or £1367,
leading the way in the South of England. A real belter of a Blue heifer from the
Hicks family flew away to 245.50p/kg or a monster £1546, with a Charolais from
the same home to 210.50p/kg or £1458. A good show of Angus was well
received today seeing MF Green lead the charge to 214p/kg or £1181, FJ
Lessey & Son’s to 213.50p/kg or £1321 with M Maggs of Calne selling to £1325
or 193.50p/kg for a heavy sort. The best of a run of Friesian heifers topped at
179.50p/kg or £1023 from the Maidment family. My thanks to all yet again.

Top price to Frome regular ST Poulsom whose Shorthorn heifer topped to £1329 or 166p/kg. Well done Hereford heifers from Lulworth Castle look a good price to 184.50p/kg or £1217. Angus heifers from MF Green of Salisbury sold well to 179.50p/kg or £1068. A single Angus steer from Jim Winter topped at 186p/kg or £1037. Cattle are in demand here at Frome. Sell live and thrive. being Dairy cows which is good to see and long may it continue as your cows
are wanted here. Top of the day to an exceptional run from Matt Ford &
Partners of Hailsham which saw Friesians to 147.50p/kg, 146.50p/kg,
143.50p/kg and 142.50p/kg or £1146, £1042, £1039, £1027 and £1008 with
Fleckviehs from the same home to 158p/kg or £1180. The journey to Frome
certainly pays off! A smart cow from Richard Trowbridge & family was well
received sailing to 143.50p/kg or £1116. British Friesians from ST Poulsom a
roaring sell to £1027 or 131p/kg. Locals, Mells Park Trust had a cow soar to
144.50p/kg or £806. Out of parlour types still an outstanding sell with what looks
like no let-up in the trade at Frome, with all cruising past 100.10p/kg. A
tremendous run of Simmentals from S & H Webb really caused a stir selling to
157.50p/kg, 156.50p/kg or 143.50p/kg or £1392, £1357 and £1269. Best
Limousins to JJ Taylor selling to 146.50p/kg or £996. Good to see Gary Barton
& family of Holden Farm who’s exceptionally well covered Shorthorn cow sold to
131.50p/kg or £1241. Best Angus again from S & H Webb at 139.50p/kg or
£1040. Good to see Colin Potter here with their Angus to 126.50p/kg or £845.
Two meaty Herefords topped at £880 or 147p/kg from Pondhead Ltd of the New

SHEEP (871) Starts 10.30am AUCTIONEER: ROSS WHITCOMBE 07815 985 737 NEW SEASON LAMBS (599) Max 252p/kg £125 A strong entry of prime lambs forward with just one shy of 600 lambs penned when only 200 lambs were booked last night. It is true to say the lambs sold to an easier trade but that is a national trend with factories worried regarding the carbon shortage. That said best lambs here today still £125 and 252p/kg. We still had a strong contingent of buyers all looking to buy sheep from Frome. More lambs could have been sold to the advantage. Don’t forget our September Breeding & Store sheep sale with approximately 1000 sheep booked for Friday 24th September to include the Blue Texel & Beltex Societies Annual Show & Sale at 1pm.

CULL EWES & RAMS (157) Max £116 A tidy entry of ewes which sold to a flying trade with new buyers present all keen to purchase sheep. Best ewes to £116 from GR Williams with easy care rams to £178 from J & K Walther. Many more ewes needed each week to meet the demand here at Frome.
STORE LAMBS (115) Max £83.50 A tidy selection of store lambs forward which enjoyed a flying trade considering the fat trade. Best lambs to £83.50 from LF Doman, with a tidy pen of Suffolk lambs to £81.50 from Will Stitch of Weare. PIGS (102) AUCTIONEER: WILL WALLIS 07833 453 482 A smaller entry forward met a much better trade than expected.
FAT PIGS The best heavies sold to £148 and £143 from Durnell & Sons. Not many other
White fat pigs forward this week. Light weight coloured fat pigs sold well to £90
from PG Apsey Despite negative deadweight reports the trade for live is still
going strong.
STORE PIGS The best strong stores to £69 and £61 for some 12w/o sorts from N Legge of
Herefordshire. Young weaners to £18 from R Lewis.
CULL SOWS AND BOARS Trade much better than other reports. With no current export demand due to closures in the Germany processing plants. Best to £69 from J & S Ward. Others to £61 from PB Weeks & Sons, most sows £50+.

CONTINENTAL BULLS TO £455/ HEIFERS TO £312 A good entry of Continental calves, with many Blue bulls and heifers. Buyers were slightly more selective but overall a brisk trade, top bulls flew past £300 to top at £452 from Parr Farming and £450 from RTJ Voizey & Partners. Heifers sold very well all day to top at £312 and £300 both from Parr Farming. A wonderful Limousin from RGE Durston sold to £455 with his heifers to £220. Charolais bulls to £290 from KJ Osborne & Partners, heifers to £365 from WH LONGMAN & Sons. Simmental bulls to £260 and heifers to £205 both from Mark Futcher.
NATIVE BULLS TO £272/NATIVE HEIFERS TO £192 Almost all Angus forward today and generally quality back on previous weeks with smaller plainer sorts through the ring. Angus bulls to £272 from Pete Turner. Heifers to £192 from SC Eavis, Herefords bulls to £185 from S & G Gould and heifers to £162 from C & P Milton.
FRIESIAN TO £132 FLECKVIEH TO £270 More forward this week and a good trade with all selling over £20 and most over £50 to see Holstein average £84 and British Friesians to £61. Best sorts over £100 to top at £132 from Helliar Partnership. Fleckviehs topped at £270 from WH Phippen.
The winner of the £25 for the top price Cotinental Sired Bull under 41 days sponsored by Howard & Sons – Kubota, was a Limousin to £455 from RGE Durston. Next week the £25 sponsored prize will be for the top price Holstein/Friesian. Howard & Sons: New Kubota dealers in

COWS & CALVES Some wonderful Pedigree Hereford cows & bull calves from D Thompson, Isle of
Wight peaked at £1660 and those with heifer calves to £1550. In calf heifers from
the same home to £1060 20mo and pedigree Hereford stock sire easily to £1530.
Hereford x cows with Charolais heifers from Brian Garrett easily to £1240.
FEEDING BULLS Angus feeding bulls 11mo at £675 and smart well conformed Blue x 10mo bulls

YOUNG CONTINENTAL Many more numbers of young Continentals coming forward this week and the
demand matched the quality. A number of excellent consignments were on offer
both suckler bred and dairy bred types. Younger 6mo suckled Charolais steers
from the Nelmes family of Wareham sold to £965 and heifers to £742. Philip Trim
of Corfe Castle produced some excellent suckled Charolais with 8 – 10mo to
£1022 and regularly over £945, his heifers were equally sought to £910. James
Foot & family presented a tremendous consignment of 65 home bred suckled
Simmentals. Trade for these outstanding cattle was electric throughout. His 11
12mo steers to £1100, £1060 and £1000. Heifers were selling into top levels to
£892, £858 and £825. PF Best & Son continuing to enter top sorts with
Simmentals (10mo) at £912 and Limousin £930. Our annual consignment of top
quality home bred suckled Limousin steers & heifers, 10mo and from Brian
Godwin & family saw wonderful interest with best pens at £1175 and £1105 and
10mo heifers to £882. A big day for Blue x Dairy with 2 tremendous entries
forward from KA Salmon & Son & RJ Butler & Son. First through the ring was KA
Salmon & Son which saw their 13mo – 15mo steers at a massive £1200 with
11mo at £1050. 8mo heifers from the same home at £800. RJ Butler & Son of
Marlborough again entering a superb run of Blue x steers and heifers 14 – 18mo.
Steers were often over £1100 topping at £1185. Overall a super entry of cattle
with more buyers forward and a great day.
ANGUS An amazing entry of Angus sold to a massive trade with buyers competing with
fire to secure all grades. The best pure bred steers rocketed to an amazing £1465
(only 19mo) and £1385 from Angus Neish of Maiden Bradley and closely followed
at £1425 (24mo) and £1280 from FJ Moody & Son of Trowbridge. Other well-bred
and reared steers sold to fast bidding from £1250 and £1390 (22mo) all from
Brian Kingston & family. Good feeding steers met keen interest to £1185 (18mo)
from Cartwright-Hignett Partnership, £1168 from Brian Ewins, £1150 from RJ
Butler & Son, £1148 from Evershot Farm Ltd, £1145 from Philip Stranger & family
and £1140 from Isgar & Sons. Young steers also sold well to £935 from Ivo Yates.
Heifers also met an amazing trade with pure bred heifers selling to a massive
£1300 (only 18mo) from Angus Neish. Fleshed heifers equally sold well to £1280
(26mo) and £1145 from M Wilkins of Calne and bullers from £948 from Evershot
Farms to £1240 22mo from Philip Stranger & Sons. Others to £940 from Brian
Ewins. Young heifers sold well to £815 from Ivo Yates and £800 from A Wadman.
HEREFORD Herefords again in furious demand yet again even with numbers tighter. Top
price to AW Kingston for an outstanding pen of steers which raced to £1190 and
£1115 (22mo). Closely followed by exceptional steers from Brian Ewins which
raced to £1165. A superb run from PA & RJ Stanger saw the steers race away
to £1145 and £1028 with heifers topping the day at £1285 and £1062 (22mo).
Messrs RE & VA Pocock of Radstock marvellous run of stores at only 18mo
flew away to £1140, £1100 and £1090. The Butler family’s usual quality was
lapped up to see 18mo steers to £1130 with heifers to £885. Younger 15mo
types from the Kerby family a huge sell to £965 for cracking heifers. The only
younger bred cattle here today was a 5mo heifer from S Powell of the Isle of
Wight selling to £475. Trade still flying, do keep them coming.

FORWARD CONTINENTAL Excellent selection on offer met another fantastic trade with buyers bidding
strong and hungry for numbers. Quality bred and reared Limousins met a good
premium with John & Sue Loder of Sherborne taking top honours with their
steers selling to £1425 (only 19mo) and £1335 (18mo). The Helliar Partnership
of Corsley sold overage Blue steers well to £1345 and Brian Kingston of
Babcary sold Blues to £1320 only 22mo and his Limousin 23mo to £1280.
Quality Charolais wanted and sold to a fast trade with 23mo steers to £1300
from Tom & Trudy Turner of Yeovil and their younger Blues 18mo to £1215.
This was equalled by Brian Godwin & family’s excellent consignment also
selling to £1215 (18mo). Other quality consignments also made notable prices
with 17mo Limousin steers to £1260 from the Best family of Wareham and
17mo Simmental steers to £1240 from Francis & Sons of Westbury. Fleshy
young Blues also a highlight selling to £1200 (16mo) from the large
consignment from Jim & Andy Salmon & family. Heifers also met an amazing
trade with Limousin heifers setting the trade on fire selling to £1260 from RWH
& CA Brown of Shaftesbury. Younger quality Limousin heifers also a massive
trade to £1225 (23mo) from PF Best & Sons of Wareham. Blue heifers another
highlight with 28mo to £1240 from RJ Butler & Son of Marlborough, £1215
22mo from Brian Kingston and £1105 from Philip Stranger & family. Younger
Simmental heifers sold to an excellent £1145 at only 20mo from Doug Hodges
& family of North Cheriton. Parthenaise heifers sold well again from Paul & Olly
Hurd from £1142 to £1150. Quality reared Charolais heifers wanted and sold
well to £1100 from Tom & Trudy Turner and yearling Blue heifers (14mo) to
massive £1115 from Jim & Andy Salmon & family.
FRIESIAN More numbers this week dominated by a super run of 30 19mo steers from the House family which were a huge sell to £975, £905, £865, £755 and £725. Forward 24mo steers from DO Webb flew to £1145 and £990, with David Helliar & Partners steers to £1030 and £890 for a 32mo heifer. DJ Hawkins steers 24mo sold to £1010, 21mo steers from regulars D Flux & C Griffin from the Isle of Wight flew to £800. Very few younger sorts forward, but all sold to an exceptional trade. Trade just as sharp, keep the cattle coming. Frome is the place.
MONTHLY SALE OF BREEDING SHEEP (1107)
BREEDING EWES A lovely entry of ewes forward for our special monthly sale, which sold well to a
ring full of buyers. 2 tooth Texel x mule ewes to £180 from L Bates, with others
to £168 from Brian Godwin. Cracking North Country Mules 2tooth to £180 from
Grant Bros. Older ewes enjoyed competitive bidding with Easycare ewes to
£100 from J & K Walther had others to £92, £90 and £88. Full mouth North
Country mules to £99 twice with others at £96 and £91 with broken mouth ewes
to £83 from Terry Mills of Keevil Farm Partnership.
EWE LAMBS Enjoyed a flying trade here today at Frome. Strong Suffolk mules to £129 from
MC & NJ Ford of Newent who had others at £118. Texel ewe lambs to £118
from Jackie Dacombe and Poll Dorsets to £114 from Rosanna Richards.
STORE LAMBS A cracking entry of store lambs which sold to a strong trade. Best store lambs to
£99 from MBJ Searle, other forward lambs to £89 from Rainbow Wood Farm.
Plenty of proper farming stores in the late £70’s and early £80’s. Many more
lambs could have been sold to the advantage.
RAMS A cracking entry of rams which sold to a flying trade with Charollais 2 tooth
rams to £425 from RJ & BE Kimber of Wincanton, super Texel rams to £305 &
£300 from Ross Edwards of Frome. Blue Face Leicesters from Keevil Farm
Partners enjoyed competitive bidding with best selling to £220, £200, £195 and
£190. Berrichon rams to £320 and £280 from AJ Park of Charlton.
SHOW & SALE OF BELTEX & BLUE TEXEL SHEEP SOCIETIES
BELTEX A warm welcome to the Beltex Sheep Society here at Frome. A superb entry of
Beltex here today which sold to a flying trade. Best rams to 600gns from
Andrew Bishop who was successfully purchased by Dave Perkins with other
shearling rams to 400gns from James Kimber and Louise Elworthy. Beltex ram
lambs enjoyed a flying trade with best types to 420gns from Louise Elworthy
who had others at 390gns. Shearling ewes sought after with best to 420gns
again from Louise Elworthy who had others to 390gns.
BLUE TEXEL A super entry of Blue Texels which drew a large crowd of buyers. Best
Shearling ewe lambs from Andrew Bishop who topped at 700gns. Aged ewes to
460gns from the Eastbury Flock who went to Tom Elliott. Shearling rams to
425gns from George Brown with ram lambs to 300gns from Abbie Batch. We

Chaplain’s Prayer Heavenly Father, as the harvest
draws to a close we thank you for our relative yields and prices which have
improved overall for most. We pray for all our farmers as the plan in very
uncertain future next seasons plans. We pray for those who have been
affected by labour, driver and transport shortages and pray it will improve
with government support. We pray for DEFRA hoping that British food
production will continue to be a central part of their policy.
SCAM AWARENESS SESSIONS
Buckinghamshire and Surrey Training Standards is
running a scam awareness session on three separate
dates. The focus is on farming businesses protecting
themselves from scams. The sessions will be hosted
by Trading Standards, with a guest speaker from FCN.
