Sambhali, under the RailwayAct.While no casualties were reported, the

train was halted for an hour and the loco-motiveenginewaschangedasaprecaution-arymeasure before allowing the trainwithpassengers onboard to go ahead.Officials said the incidentwas the result

of a lapse in following the procedure laiddown, wherein the control room has to beinformed in case the level crossing gate isopened for any vehicularmovement.Around12.30pm, the level crossingwas

only opened for the truck to pass through.Itwashitbythetrainwhenitcametoocloseto the tracks. While officials said that it isthe only way to reach the carshed, theymaintained that vehicles cross the tracks

under strict rules. "The points man moni-toring the level crossinggate is supposed totake permission from the station superin-tendent,whoonly allows it after informingthecontrol roomandensuring thatno trainis expected," said an official fromWesternRailway. Followingthe incident, thesitewasvisited by Divisional Railway Manager G VL Satyakumar. A 15-day long safety drive toidentify such accident-prone locations onrail tracks has been ordered byWR.This is the second such incident in the

last two days. The motorman of aChurchgate-bound fast local train hadbrought the train to halt in time nearJogeshwari after spotting a truck that hascome too close to the tracks.
