For the last 20 years, I’ve been following ever orders and requests my mom told me without having anything in return. But today is not an ordinary day because this is the first time that she asks me to do something and she is willing to pay me to do it. Honestly, I found it hard to come up with this speech because I am also having my finals week in San Beda. So I decided to look back into my own graduation and tried to remember what our guest speaker told us. It was Emerlinda Roman, now the former UP President. But apparently, I could not rememberanything she said. With that I am also not expecting you to remember anything except may be the joke on being paid. I took into consideration that I will be talking to a group of very young people and they will care less about what I am going to say. So I decided to make this one not just for our graduates but more importantly, to address the parents. The reason why our dear parents are here is because of love. As Henry Ward Beecher said, "There is no friendship, no love, like that of the parent for the child.”We all recognize the importance of good parenting to our children. A lot of studies had been done linking the behavior of children to their relationships with their parents. As they say the closer the better. The parents are entrusted to be the persons who will open the eyes of theirchildren to the realities of life. Maybe as of today they do not realize the unfairness of life but very soon they will. They will cry, be frustrated and face their own trials. And it is the job of the parents to make sure they are ready for these things once they step out in their own little worlds. My friends and I had a chance to attend Alex Magno’s lecture in La Consolacion College a few months back. And he presented his book entitled “12 little things every Filipino can do.” It is a list of basic things we tend to forget as Filipinos like following traffic rules, coming in time and the like. He said that these 12 things is the answer for the change we have all been waiting for. For today, I decided to make my own special list which we will call the ten (10) things parents should do for their children. Hopefully, this will help our
