“A Heritage From The Lord” by Pastor Fee Soliven
Psalm 127:1-5Sunday Morning
June 1, 2014
Psalm 127:1-51 Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who
build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays
awake in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To
eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the
womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the
children of one's youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies
in the gate.
2 Timothy 1:3-73 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers
did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears,
that I may be filled with joy,
5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which
dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I
am persuaded is in you also. 6 Therefore I remind you to stir up
the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love
and of a sound mind.
1. A Desire to Follow Jesus
Luke 10:25-2725 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit
eternal life?" 26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? What
is your reading of it?”
27 So he answered and said, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as
yourself.' "
2. A Reverence for God’s Word
Joshua 1:8-98 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night,
that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it.
For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have
good success.
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do
not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you
wherever you go."
3. An Understanding of How to Listen to the Lord
Proverbs 2:1-81 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, 2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart
to understanding; 3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up
your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the
knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth
come knowledge and understanding; 7 He stores up
sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk
uprightly; 8 He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of
His saints.
4. A Pattern of Obedience
Psalm 119:30-31 (New Living Translation)
30 I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your
regulations. 31 I cling to your laws.
James 1:21-2421 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and
receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your
souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a
hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural
face in a mirror...
5. A Faith that Conquers the Trials of Life
Psalm 103:1-51 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy
name! 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His
benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your
diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with
lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your
mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the
eagle's.
6. A Forgiving Heart
Mark 11:25-2625 "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything
against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive
your trespasses."
7. A Servant’s Spirit
Psalm 100:1-31 Make a joyful shout to the LORD,
all you lands! 2 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His
presence with singing. 3 Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who
has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and
the sheep of His pasture.
Matthew 20:28"Just as the Son of Man did not
come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for
many."
8. A Generous Hand
Luke 6:38"Give, and it will be given to you:
good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over
will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to
you."
9. Sincere Love
1 Peter 1:22-2422 Since you have purified your
souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the
brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of
corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which
lives and abides forever...
