CLASSICAL ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL 144 Woodward Avenue San Diego, CA 92025 (760) 480-9845 Fall 2014 Dear Potential Senior Project Mentor: As a graduation requirement, students at Classical Academy High School are required to document 40 hours of “fieldwork” connected to research on an approved college or career focused Senior Project. Fieldwork allows students to further explore their topic in a real-world setting and/or use their learning to make an impact in their world. In order to be successful with their projects, students will be required to obtain a Mentor (outside of the classroom) to help guide him or her throughout their Senior Project. The Mentor oversees the student’s progress on their Senior Project and assists them with all necessary fieldwork, research, planning, etc. Please also note that if the project involves organizing or hosting an event, the mentor must be present at the event to supervise and evaluate. You have been requested as a mentor (an expert in a particular field) by one of the graduating students at CAHS. The Mentor provides three essential services for the student: 1. Guides the student through the project phase (conferences in person, or over the phone or e-mail a minimum of five times) 2. Helps the student organize information and gain experience in the field chosen 3. Reads and critiques the student’s research paper early on and then in its final form (focusing on content)
