University of Central MissouriCourse Title: “Comparative

Examination of Violent Offending”

Description:  This course will explore the characteristics which define various types of violent offenders, as well as practices and policies in the criminal justice system concerning violent offenders. Sections will examine the psychology and behavioral characteristics of violent offender groups, environmental correlates of violent crime, violent cybercrime, human evolutionary perspective of violent offending, female offending, supervision of incarcerated violent offenders, police perspectives of violent offenders, and reentry of violent offenders. [Note: This course has been designated a CJ4000 Special Topics class for the UCM CJ Program.]

University of Central MissouriCourse Title:  “History of the Early

Modern World”

Description:  “World Civilization from the Age of Exploration to the Napoleonic era.” The Early Modern Era helped lay the foundations for much of the world as we know it. Trade networks increasingly interconnected the globe, helping push major innovations in exploration, art, culture, religion and government, along with many other fields. The spirit and pace of innovation continued to increase both in gradual intervals, and in rapid movements. This course will pay special attention to several hinges of rapid transformation in the period, including the rise of Old and New World Empires, the European Renaissance, Western Enlightenment, and Atlantic Age of Revolution. Included is a broad Atlantic focus with state-building and human rights emphases. [Note: This is a General Education course at the UCM campus, with the prefix of HIST 2401.]

Description: This course is an introduction and overview of the historical development of transnational organized crime and it dynamic evolution into the 21st century. Additionally, this course will examine the connection (directly or indirectly) between organized crime operations and terrorist organizations. Students will come to realize the symbiotic relation between illegal arms sales, drug and human trafficking, piracy, money laundering, and the execution of global terrorist activities.

Course Title: “Introduction to Spain”

Course Description: This course will provide a broad overview of Spanish civilization and culture, from its prehistory to the present day.  Spain’s significance in the history of thought and deed will be examined in wider international contexts, particularly those pertaining to Western Europe and America. Students will survey Spanish culture in its many diverse representations, examining cultural expressions in terms of their perceived universality and authenticity. Topics will be linked to questions of politico-cultural identity in contemporary Spain.

You may get these documents from the UCM Study Abroad Office.
