The current economic indicators for Palm Beach County point to a vibrant and healthy economy -- one that is growing and thriving. Encompassing more than 2,000 square miles, Palm Beach County is one of the largest in the eastern United States and the third-largest in Florida.
Of 3,100 counties nationwide, Palm Beach County is one of a select group of only 22 to earn the highest possible bond rating, AAA, by all three of the major rating agencies, Moody’s Investors Services, Fitch, and Standard & Poor’s. Palm Beach County is also the only county in Florida to have earned this designation.
Fitch described Palm Beach County as one of the nation’s wealthiest counties, with per capita personal income levels nearly 50% higher than state and national aver-ages. The ratings firm said its grade reflects Palm Beach County’s vital and diversifying economic base, sound financial position, and moderate debt levels. As for its economic base, Fitch noted our strengths in luxury tourism, technology manufacturing, and agriculture. Population
At 2,578 square miles in total area, Palm Beach County is one of the largest counties in the eastern United States and the largest among Florida’s 67 counties. The population is estimated at nearly 1.3 million. Population increased approximately 3.1% annually from 1990 through 2000, compared to double and triple that rate in the 1980s. PALM BEACH COUNTY PER CAPITA PERSONAL INCOMEIn 2015, Palm Beach County had a per capita personal income (PCPI) of $68,743. This PCPI ranked 4th in the state and was 155% of the state average, $44,429, and 143% of the national average, $48,112. The 2015 PCPI reflected an increase of 3.3% from 2014. The 2014-2015 state change was 3.6% and the national change was 3.7%. In 2005, the PCPI of Palm Beach County was $55,420 and ranked 4th in the state. The 2005-2015 compound annual growth rate of PCPI was 2.2%. The com-pound annual growth rate for the state was 2.1% and for the nation was 3.0%.from 2014. The 2014-2015 state change was 5.5% and the national change was 4.5%. The 2005-2015 average annual growth rate of TPI was 3.3%. The average annual growth rate for the state was 3.4% and for the nation was 3.8%.
PALM BEACH COUNTY TOTAL PERSONAL INCOME
In 2015, Palm Beach County had a total personal income (TPI) of $97,806,900*. This TPI ranked 2nd in the state and accounted for 10.9% of the state total. In 2005, the TPI of Palm Beach was $70,847,235* and ranked 2nd in the state. The 2015 TPI reflected an increase of 5.0% from 2014. The 2014-2015 state change was 5.5% and the national change was 4.5%. The 2005-2015 average annual growth rate of TPI was 3.3%. The average annual growth rate for the state was 3.4% and for the nation was 3.8%.

Labor Force & EmploymentApril 2017 Labor Trends
Palm Beach County’s April unemployment rate of 3.9% is down from the March rate of 4.2% reflecting a net gain of 2,577 jobs.
Continued employment growth for Palm Beach County is indicated by the 2.6 percentage increase in the number of total non-agricultural jobs during the last twelve months. This represents a net gain of 15,600 jobs. International Trade
Palm Beach County’s strategic location is ideal for trade, as it is centrally located between Miami and Orlando, and within easy reach of all of the major air and sea ports in the state of Florida. Palm Beach County is part of the Miami Customs District, utilized by much of Latin America and the Caribbean as the first destination for goods to be distributed to the rest of the United States and Europe, and vice versa. Increasingly, many Asian firms are also using the Miami Customs District to ship goods for similar purposes, with China becoming one of the region’s top five trading partners.
The importance of the region for international trade is reflected by the Miami Customs District accounting for a large portion of the total international trade that occurs for the State of Florida. The Miami Customs District had the largest trade surplus -- $19.6 billion more in exports than imports -- among all 59 U.S. Customs Districts in 2008.
