Iowa State is located minutes from an interstate exchange meaning that it is less than a day’s

drive from Minneapolis (204 miles), Kansas City (208), Omaha (131), St. Louis (295), Milwaukee (290) or Chicago (307). The state capital -- Des Moines (pictured) -- is 30 minutes from central campus. Located in the heart of the midwest, Ames boasts of a small-town charm with large city amenities nearby.

Postseason Success

• Iowa State is one of just eight teams in the country to advance to at least the Sweet 16 in each of the past three seasons.

• The Cyclones hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships in 2009, ranking fourth in attendance among the 16 host sites.

• Iowa State has been selected to host the 2014 NCAA Regionals at Hilton Coliseum.

Outstanding Fans

Iowa State’s rapidly growing fan base is among the nation’s best. The Cyclones ranked ninth in the country for attendance in 2009, averaging over 2,700 fans per match.

Against Nebraska, Iowa State drew a school-record 10,203 fans for the Big 12 match.

In 2009, the Cyclones more than doubled the previous school record for season tickets purchased with over 600.

Iowa State also created a student group in 2009, the CYd-Out Crew. The group has over 600 members and provides great support at ISU home matches.

First-Class Facilities

• With a revised setup, Hilton Coliseum has been transformed into one of the more fan-friendly arenas in the country.

• The volleyball offices have moved to Hilton Coliseum and feature a newly remodeled team room.

• The Hixson-Lied Student Success Center (top left next page) was completed in 2007 and gives ISU student-athletes a facility dedicated to improving academic achievement.

EliteCompetition

Iowa State is a member of the Big 12 Conference, which is annually recognized as one of the top volleyball conferences in the nation.

In 2009, five Big 12 teams were ranked in the final top-25 poll, including three in the top-10. Iowa State finished the season ranked No. 6 and was one of five teams from the league to advance to the Sweet 16.

The Cyclones also became the first team since 2003 to defeat Nebraska and Texas in the same season en route to a second-place finish in the Big 12.

AcademicSuccess

Iowa State takes great pride in student-athletes success both on the court and in the classroom.

Iowa State ranked seventh nationally among BCS schools with a student-athlete graduation rate of 79 percent. ISU’s graduation rate ranked second among public institutions.

Under Christy Johnson-Lynch, the volleyball program has placed 21 student-athletes on the academic All-Big 12 teams, while seven have earned academic All-District honors.

Individual Development

The ISU coaching staff puts great emphasis on the development of its student-athletes. Cyclone volleyball players receive top-notch instruction in the fundamentals of the game from some of the top coaches in the country. At ISU, we strive to make certain that every student-athlete grows and matures not only as a player, but also as an individual.

ISU employs experts in the fields of athletic training, strength and conditioning and academic counseling to help ensure that each student-athlete is provided with the best possible opportunity to succeed on the court and in the classroom.

Community Involvement

Iowa State student-athletes are extremely active in the community. The ISU athletics department stresses an overall athletics experience.

Student-athletes give back to the community and the fans that support our teams. Community activities that Cyclone student-athletes make major contributions to include: Toys for Tots, Habitat for Humanity, Adopt and Angel, Special Olympics, Run for the Cure, a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday and other civic functions.
