Introduction
GL Assessment’s Progress Test Series has been designed for use year-on-year to supportteachers in identifying levels of attainment and monitoring progress. The tests for Englishare for students from age five to 14 and formaths age five to 14 and science are forstudents from age seven to 14.
The series has been standardised on over 80,000 studentsacross the UK and so provides reliable and accurateprofiles of groups and individuals against nationalstandards. The standard age score provided by the testswill be crucial for all schools who want to track progressand benchmark against students in the same age group.
Progress Test in Science (PTS) provides a reliableassessment of students’ attainment in science. Each testassesses key aspects of science knowledge and skills, appropriate to the age of the students. It completes theProgress Test Series, which has tests for core subjects:English, maths and science.
The Progress Test in Science series consists of 7 tests: 6 tests covering the age range 7 to 14+ years (ProgressTest in Science 8 to 14), plus an additional test forstudents aged between 11 and 12 years, which can be usedas a transition test on entry to secondary education(Progress Test in Science 11T). There is no test for 12 yearolds (end of Y7/S1/Y8) due to the way schools tailor theteaching of the science curriculum over KS3/S1-S3.
The tests have been developed to be taken towards theend of the school year, where the curriculum for the yearhas been mostly covered, or at the start of the next year.Ideal for monitoring progress over time and trackingindividual student progress, the Progress Test Series canbe used to support teachers in identifying those in needof extra help, as well as those that are particularly able.
Close attention has been paid to ensuring the new testsreflect curricula across the UK making it up-to-date andhighly relevant.
