What is DSA?

Allows students to demonstrate a wider range of talents in seeking admission to secondary schools.

Type of Schools Discretionary Places

Schools with IP or SIS (NUSHS, SST & SOTA)

Up to 100% (IP schools admitted up to 50%)

Independent Schools (without IP)

Autonomous Schools (without IP)

Based on students’ talents and achievements.

Consider both academic and non-academic areas.

Each secondary school has its own criteria for selection. Based on the qualities, such as talent in science, music or sports, that the school would like to emphasize.

To assess these qualities in applicants, schools may conduct tests, interviews or trials as necessary.

The 2015 DSA-Sec Exercise will tentatively be conducted in

July 2015

Shortlisted student goes for selection tests/camps or interviews at the DSA-Sec school(s).

Student receives outcome of application from the school(s) he/she has applied to (i.e. Confirmed, Waiting List or Rejected) by 29 Aug 2014

School Preference Form

- Students with “Confirmed” Offers or who have been put on the “Waiting List” of a school will receive a School Preference Form from their perspective primary schools.

- The form indicates the list of schools that the student have received Confirmed Offer from and/or placed on the Waiting List.

School Preference Indication

- Parents can indicate their child’s school preference(s) for up to 3 schools in the DSA-Sec School Preference Form.

- Parents can submit their child’s school preference(s) either electronically via DSA-Sec Internet System or physically to the child’s primary school.

- Student collects his/her DSA-Sec allocation result from his/her primary school, together with his/her PSLE results.

- Student who is unsuccessful in the DSA-Sec

Exercise will be notified of the outcome of the application and will participate in the Secondary One Posting Exercise.

Direct School Admission

Some popular schools of choice for DSA include: • River Valley High School,

• Nan Hua High School,

• Hwa Chong Institution,

• Nanyang Girls’ High School,

• Crescent Girls’ School,

• NUSHS, SOTA, SST, SSS

Pupils seeking DSA will have to submit applications to individual schools.

Students must achieve PSLE results that would enable them to be eligible for admission to the course offered by school.

Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)

PSLE – A Placement Test

Reflect relative achievement level of pupil compared to peers.

Place students into different courses based on his / her academic ability.

Enable posting to secondary school by merit and, as far as possible, school of choice.

PSLE Aggregate Score

A sum of T-Scores of all 4 subjects.

Ranking of all candidates based on academic ability.

Reflect the level of difficulty of different subjects & paper.

What is T-Score?

Results from each paper is only the raw score.

Computation of T-Score

Give the relative standing of students’ performance as compared to all other students in that subject.

Compared to his/her cohort peers.

PSLE 2015 School Fees

• In line with the announcement by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister

for Finance, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, in his Budget speech on

23 February 2015, the national examination fees will be waived for

all Singaporean students in Government-funded schools sitting for

the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and the Singapore-

Cambridge GCE N(T), N(A), O-Level and A-Level Examinations from

2015 onwards.

• The 2015 PSLE examination fees for the Non-Singaporean school

candidates are as follows :

Permanent Residents $60

International Students $180

Observation and Concerns

Pupils need to be more focused and made more aware of the importance of PSLE.

Pupils need to reduce the time spent on on-line games, social media etc.

Pupils should be reminded to head home straight after school and not to loiter around the school and neighbourhood.
