TRAFFIC ADVISORYResidents Asked to Observe No Parking on Snow Covered Roadways

Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose are asking all residents to observe the city’s “No Parking on Snow Covered Roads” regulations due to the expected snowfall as part of two potential storm events beginning on Thursday, January 17 th, 2019 and ending on Sunday, January 20th, 2019.

After 10 p.m. on Thursday, snow is expected with accumulations of 1-inch.

Snow is expected to return before 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by a chance of rain into the afternoon.

A 30 percent chance of snow is predicted for Saturday after 1 p.m., with snow showers expected before 9 p.m. along with a mix of rain and snow showers.

On Sunday, snow is expected to begin before 9 p.m. with temperatures falling to as low as 11◦ F.

Signs have been posted on streets throughout the City of Newark to notify motorists of the streets designated for no parking during snow storms. Motorist and residents are urged to look for the sign pictured below to identify the streets where the parking ban will be enforced.

Violators can expect to be issued a summons and towed.  These regulations are essential to the removal/plowing of snow and salting operations. Whenever possible, off-street parking is recommended during snow storms. Signs are posted on streets throughout the City of Newark to notify motorists of the streets designated for no parking during snow storms.  Motorists and residents are urged to look for the signs, pictured below, to identify the streets where the parking ban will be enforced.  Resident should avoid unnecessary travel.

All residents are reminded that tossing snow into the street is against the law, and violators will be fined.

“I urge all of our people to follow our ordinances and to check on their neighbors, particularly the elderly, to make sure they are safe,” Mayor Baraka said.

Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the street or highway is provided below. No vehicle shall be parked on the following main traveled or major roadways or portions thereof:
