Expanding our impactWe recently launched a five year strategic plan to increase youth service levels by 2022. By becoming a bigger and bolder presence in the community, we can better invest in the lives of more youth. And an investment in our children is an investment in our community’s future. 5Recognized Jim Singleton with the Community Mentor Award, and more than $40,000 in gifts were made to BBBSCI in honor of Jim’s impact and leadership

675 donors gave to BBBSCI for Giving Tuesday on November 29, 2016 - raising $78,965 for the agency in just one day, with an additional $65,000 in matching gifts

Dan Cope named the Big Brother of the Year for BBBSCI and for the state of Indiana

For the second year in a row, BBBSCI partnered with the United Way Hearts at Home Initiative and Eli Lilly and Company on September 29, 2016, for the annual Lilly Global Day of Service. On this day, 230+ Eli Lilly employees distributed 638 BBBSCI yard signs to Bigs, partners, schools, and agency supporters as part of October’s Go Big for BBBS Campaign. Additionally, we canvased downtown Indy with agency posters and chalk art. BBBSCI was also proud to recognize Rebecca Scott, Consultant, Medicines Development IT – Clinical Execution & Optimization, with the Kathi Kornas Volunteer of the Year Award for her service and leadership.

At the Big Brothers Big Sisters National Conference in June 2017, we were honored to receive recognition for three major awards:

• Gold Standard Award, which is awarded to BBBS agencies that delivered high program quality and

grew the total number of youth served

• Quality Award, for the third year in a row, recognizing the strength of our agency and mentoring relationships

• Mid-Large Agency Board of the Year, honoring the engagement and leadership of our Board of Directors

Tony Dungy, former Indianapolis Colts Head Coach, came back to town on September 1, 2016, to serve as the keynote speaker for The Main Event, presented by NextGear Capital. Coach Dungy addressed the importance of mentoring and its far-reaching impact in our community. The event raised $400,000 for BBBSCI.

Placed in the Top 3 for Best Place to Volunteer, Best Local Non-Profit, and Best Local Charitable Event in NUVO’s 2016 annual “Best of Indy” contest

Launched a Bigs Task Force - a group of some of our most dedicated volunteers committed to fundraising and spreading awareness of BBBSCI

Developed the Big App and launched it to 2 other BBBS agencies across the country for their own matches

Corey was a shy and quiet third-grader when he first met Daryle Zybert as part of his elementary school’s reading program in 2007. He was a hardworking student who maintained good grades, but lacked a role model in his life . As a result of their weekly reading sessions, he began to view Daryle as someone he could look up to . The two were officially matched as Big Brother and Little Brother in 2008, and the time spent together cemented their friendship . Corey graduated from the program with Daryle in 2015 and is now a junior at Ball State University studying music and media production .

A LITTLE’S PERSPECTIVE“Daryle, the greatest role model any one could ask for, invested his time to make a young man better. He opened my eyes to countless opportunities and goals that I should have for myself as a man. I grew up in a small town, but it was a bad town, and I thought the only way to make it to college was by playing sports. And my father wasn’t really a part of my life growing up, so it was tough on my mom - she not only had me, but another child she had to look after. My mom is a strong, amazing woman but it was hard for her to raise a man. That’s where Daryle came in and took the load off of my mom’s shoulders. He taught me how a man

should carry and present himself to others around him. We did all kinds of things like go to Colts and Pacers games. We went bowling, played putt-putt, and raced go-karts. I have to thank BBBSCI for these experiences - this program has really made an impact in my life in ways I can’t even explain. I am in my third year of college and the program is still showing me support- even though I graduated from it a while ago. Daryle is still in my life - we hang out and even to this day, he shows me how to be a man, what it means to have a head on straight, and other life lessons. I want to thank BBBSCI for not only changing my life, but other kids’ lives with this program. We really appreciate the role models you’ve placed in our lives.”
