NEW ENGINEERINGBUILDING EMBODIESUNIVERSITY CAMPUSOF THE FUTURE

A first glimpse of the NUI Galway ‘Campusof the Future’, the 14,000 sqm EngineeringBuilding is a testament to the University'scommitment to innovative concepts in

building and design. The E50+ millionfacility is scheduled to open in 2009 and willbe the largest single capital projectundertaken in the University's history. Keyprinciples in the design and planning havebeen the reintegration of the river with thebuilding and surrounding walkways, interactive learning spaces, andenvironmentally friendly, energy efficientfacilities. The result will be a riversideamenity of enormous benefit not only tostudents and staff, but also to the broadercommunity of the city and region.

The building is part of a major E400 milliondevelopment project announced inDecember 2006. The 'Campus of the Future'programme will put NUI Galway firmly onthe international stage in terms of facilitiesand research. Capital investment financedby the government, philanthropic fundingand University resources will see almost 20large infrastructural projects undertaken onthe 260-acre campus.
