For fans of the original, play format of the story, the movie might be somewhat of a

disappointment in the sense that the film does not fully incorporate Stoppards entire script for

the play and instead chooses to add in more slapstick humor in those lines place . For example,

midway through the first act, Rosencrantz and uildenstern eventually get to the point in their

debate regarding their whereabouts in !lsinore where Rosencrantz actually loses track of the

debate and happens to "forget which #uildenstern is$ trying to establish.%&'() #uildenstern

is$ trying to establish the direction of the wind* +-. /his sudden change in focus in the

conversation is mirrored in the movie with Rosencrantzs statement that only a draught exists in

the room, but the conversation is then dropped as uildenstern, unlike in the play, takes the

paper windmill Rosencrantz has made and crushes it in a seemingly tyrannical manner. 'n the

play, Stoppard utilizes this debate to introduce the motif of wind, which is later referenced by the

0layer to create the concept that Rosencrantz and uildenstern are merely pawns in a much

larger conflict1 however, in the movie the 0layers reference to knowing "which way the wind is

blowing* is still made, but the line loses much of its ominous tone simply because the debate

regarding the wind was not built upon earlier in the film.
