Incorporated in 1990 in California, USA, VTI has been an industry leader

Collecting and analyzing physical data is an integral

are tested rigorously, and the acquired data is used
to modify the design to increase performance and

The advanced physical measurement and analysis
suite contains all the resources necessary for
performing static testing on mechanical systems.
Static measurements are slow or gradually changing
values like temperature and strain as opposed to
dynamic measurements which are fast and randomly
changing like vibrations. The instruments provided
in this suite are the same as those used to perform
testing and analysis of extremely complex systems
liketheboeingDreamlinerairframe,atkthiokol’s
Rocketengines,andge’spowergenerators.Using
these tools will give students hands on experience
on with testing and analysis techniques required in

Overview
Structural dynamics is the study of the responses
of structures due to dynamic loading. Whether an
aircraft flying through rough weather, or an offshore
wind turbine being hit by waves or a building during
an earthquake, mechanical and civil structures often
experience dynamic loads. Any real world mechanical
or civil engineer must have a good understanding of
the response of structures due to dynamic loading, in
order to design resilient structures optimized for safety,
performance and comfort.
This suite provides all the tools necessary for students to
get a strong understanding of the dynamic behavior
of structures through hands on practical experience.
VTI’s structural dynamics test instruments have been
used to optimize some of the highest performance and
most reliable designs in the world. The current Formula
1 champions Renault for example uses VTI’s hardware

Static structural analysis is the study of the
displacements, stresses, strains, and forces in
structures and components caused by loads that
do not induce significant inertia and damping
effects. This field plays a very important role in the
design of aircrafts, turbines, bridges, earthquake
resistant buildings, and so on.

and Composites Center - a division of University of

Acoustics is the study of mechanical waves
in gases, liquids and solids including vibration,
sound, ultrasound and infrasound. Acoustic
studies are necessary not only for noise
reduction and optimization but also for
reducing vibrations and mechanical wear
in complex mechanical structures.
In the design of a car for example, acoustic
studies are performed not only to identify and
dampen noise sources, but also to identify
parts creating and affected by vibrations,
so that the design can be optimized. In the
aerospace industry, where durability, noise
reduction, and resilience to vibrations is critical,
acoustic studies play an important role.
VTI has worked with the AcousticsandDynamics
