General Information regarding Exam.

● INTRODUCTIONIn accordance with the National Policy on Education (1986) Govt. of India started JawaharNavodaya Vidyalayas all over the country except Tamil Nadu. These are co-educational, residentialschools, fully financed by Government of India and run by an autonomous organisation, NavodayaVidyalaya Samiti, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Though admission tothese Vidyalayas is at class VI level, in order to optimally utilise infrastructure facilities available,vacant seats at class IX level are filled through an All India level Selection Test. While education inthe Schools is free including boarding, lodging, uniforms and text books, a nominal fee of 200/-per month will have to be collected from the Children from IX to XII class. However, childrenbelonging to SC/ST, girls and from the families whose income is below poverty line are exemptedfrom payment of fees.

● OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEME(a) To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, incul-

cation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education tothe talented children from the rural areas, without regard to their family’s socio-economiccondition.

(b) To ensure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages as envisagedin Three Language Formula; and

(c) To serve in each district as focal point for improvement of quality of school education ingeneral through sharing of experiences and facilities.

● ADMISSION TO IX CLASS AGAINST VACANT SEATSIn order to optimally utilise the infrastructure and facilities available in these Vidyalayas, it hasbeen decided by the Samiti to fill the vacant seats in IX Class through an All India level SelectionTest. The district-wise vacant seats in the Vidyalayas are separately notified in local news papers.

● ELIGIBILITY

(a) Only those candidates who have studied in class VIII during the Academic Session in one ofthe Govt./Govt. recognized schools of the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya isfunctioning and where admission is sought.

(b) Candidates appearing for the Selection Test must pass class VIII in the academic session froma Govt./Govt. recognized school in the same district where he/she is seeking admission.

(c) Candidates seeking admission must not be below 12 and above 16. This will apply tocandidates of all categories including those belonging to SC/ST. For more details see theJawahar Navodaya Vidyalays prospectus.

(d) Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti reserves the right to refer any candidate to the MEDICALBOARD for confirmation of the age of the candidate in case a doubt arises on the agecertificate produced by the candidate before the admission is given.

● RESERVATIONThe existing vacant seats in the SC/ST category as notified are reserved for the SC/ST students.

● NATURE OF SELECTION TESTAdmission test consists of questions of VIII standard in the following subjects as per the weightagegiven :

The Difficulty Level of the test shall be Class VIII. The test will be objective/descriptive with 03hours duration without any break. Centre for examination shall be in the JAWAHARNAVODAYA VIDYALAYA of the district concerned.

● SELECTION AND ADMISSION(a) Selection in the selection test will not vest any right upon candidate to secure admission into

JNV till the candidate produce all the relevant certificates such as date of birth, pass certificateof VIII class with mark sheets. SC/ST certificate as prescribed by NVS for the admission.

(b) Details of the marks obtained in the test are not communicated and there is no provisionfor rechecking/re-totalling.

(c) Candidate will be considered for the admission only into that Vidyalaya for which he/she hasappeared for Selection Test.

(d) At the time of admission, candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and ScheduledTribes (STs) categories will have to produce the required Scheduled Caste/Tribe Certificateissued by the Competent Authority.

(e) In case of any dispute the decision of NVS will be final and binding on the candidates.

● HOW TO APPLYThe prospectus-cum-application form containing detailed instructions can be obtained free of

cost from the office of Principal Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Office of District and BlockEducation Officers of the District. Applications forms can also be downloaded from our officewebsite www.navodaya.nic.in. Neatly typed and Xeroxed copy of the application also can be usedfor applying.

3. GRAMMAR – 5 MarksA variety of short questions involving the use of particular structure within a context.
