nalists Jessica Megan, a newly made entre-preneur Katie Fos-ter and a wonderful, young make-up artist Alexandra Gorgan. As you know Sep-tember is the ninth month of the year in the Julian and Grego-rian Calendars and one of four months with a length of 30 days. September be-gins on the same day of the week as De-cember every year. Also this is a month when the children go back to schools and start getting more or-

ganised after the long summer holidays.  Finally, I would just like to wish you all a very productive month and speak to you soon.

With LOVE, Datsa

Hello my gorgeous readers!

Another month has gone by and we are successfully  into September. This year’s long, glorious  summer  is over  and we have to  prepare ourselves for Septem-ber. Lately here at the ForAnyWoman.com we have made some great changes. We have launched our new website, so there is much more for all of you to read, there are also some changes to the magazine. Please go and check it all out! Cambridge is most widely known as the home of the Uni-versity of Cambridge, where every year many students arrive to study. Founded in 1209 and consistently ranked one of the top five universities in the world. It lies in East Anglia, on the River Cam, about 50 miles north of London. If you get the chance, go and visit this wonderful city, you will get such great memories  from

this historical place.  We met four lovely and inspiring strong ladies who share their stories with you. I would like you to meet our cover girls: the gorgeous Miss England Carina Tyrrell, one of the Miss Peterborough 2014 fi-

“I was interested by all the differentrounds that the contestants hadto do: raise money for the charity“Beauty with a Purpose” for disad-vantaged children around theworld’’

At school and university, her time was spent working hard studying to become a doctor. After achieving one of her academic goals, she began focusing on other opportu-nities. Having always had the Miss World competition in her mind, last year she looked at the Miss England website, and the words “not just a pretty face” caught her eye. Meet our next cover girl and Miss England 2014 winner Carina Tyrrell.

When did you first consider applying for the competi-tion?I remember watching Miss World on television as young as 6 years old, with one of my best friends and her sister who was baby-sit-ting.

At this age, I remember wanting to be a Miss because of how hap-py and beautiful the girls looked. As I have become more aware and informed about what the competition is about, my reasons for wanting to be a Miss have changed.

I was interested by all the different rounds that the contestants had to do: raise money for the charity “Beauty with a Purpose” for dis-advantaged children around the world, demonstrate a talent, par-ticipate in the sports round run by the military as a boot camp, the eco round where contestants make a dress out of recycled ma-terials, the optional beach beauty and modelesque rounds where contestants have a photo-shoot with the professional Fresh Acad-emy, the brainy beauty round where all entrants take a general

knowledge quiz and more.

How did you feel when you were announced as Miss En-gland 2014?As my name was called out, my heart stopped, my legs felt weak and I just clasped my hands to-gether to thank all the people who had believed in me and support-ed me. I managed to hold back the tears until I went backstage. For such a life changing moment, it was an indescribable feeling.

Carina, one of your priori-ties is fighting against pov-erty and disease in children, both at home and abroad, how will you achieve that?It is unacceptable that in 2014 there is so much human suffering. When I was 5 years old, I learnt that children like myself were dy-ing from malaria – one child every

30 seconds. I could not believe that I was so fortunate and that others were dying from prevent-able causes. This is what has driv-en me through school, university and now Miss England. Since the age of 13, I have been working with charities and hospitals in Af-rica, Asia, South America, and Eu-rope to try and help to alleviate the burden of disease.

As Miss England, I have been giv-en the incredible opportunity to combine my medical skills with my public profile, in order to help people on a larger scale. I am in-volved with medical work in the United Kingdom and abroad.

You are a Cambridge medical student. Why did you make that choice?I would like to be able to work as a doctor on a variety of levels,

from the individual to the popu-lation level. This is why I am inter-ested in global and public health, and organisations such as Oxfam, the Red Cross, the World Health Organization and the United Na-tions. I would like to be at the forefront of helping people on a national and global scale.

What skills do you have to win the title of Miss World this December?Using my medical skills I would be able to bring another element to the charitable work that Miss World does. My passion and drive for helping disadvantaged people are strongly in line with the Miss World ethos – “Beauty with a Pur-pose”.I hope that my diplomacy, travel experiences, and language abili-ties (being bilingual in English and French, with an intermediate level

of Spanish) will assist me in taking on such a role.

Through working as a doctor, I have developed my communica-tion skills and am used to inter-acting with the young, through to the elderly. My experiences in amateur acting and public speak-ing will hopefully assist me in be-coming a spokesperson for the world and young women. Being a driven young woman and a first class graduate of the all women’s college, Murray Edwards, at Cam-bridge University, I hope to stand in a strong position as a role mod-el to young women and to advo-cate the importance of education. With this background, I also hope that people will respect me and listen to my views. There is nothing more rewarding in the world, than helping some-one who needs you. Helping the

world with the crown in one hand and my stethoscope in the oth-er is my purpose. This is, beauty, with a purpose.

Don’t you get tired of being in the spotlight all the time?

People are very kind and respect-ful towards me, such that I enjoy taking the time for photos and sig-natures and meeting these new people. I am pleased to maintain my private life and still enjoy go-ing to the gym, cooking at home, and spending time with family and friends.

FThe Daily Mail says, „Brains and beauty is quite the envi-able package, but you have proven you have both in droves.” What do you have to add to that?

I believe the world is full of many beautiful and intelligent women, and I do not believe that wom-en should be classed as having either one or the other. I do not believe we should be labeled as such but be appreciated for the whole person that we are. Beauty

is subjective, and personally, the most beautiful people I know, are those with a kind and caring per-sonality.

What would you like to say to our readers? This year the Miss England contes-tants raised more than £51,000 for the charity Beauty with a Pur-pose. I believe that encouraging young women to think of and help others and raise money for charity is fundamental in shaping the women of tomorrow.I would like to encourage every-one to make the most of life and to take advantage of opportuni-ties which may come their way. As one patient I met recently when doing the Ice Bucket chal-lenge for motor neurone disease said through his voice machine – “Always look on the bright side of life!” FAW

THINGS THAT INSPIRE YOU?

People – every person has a different story and it is a privilege to be able to listen and learn about someone.

Helping others – there is nothing more rewarding than helping someone who needs you.

Singing and dancing – I feel I can lose myself when listening, singing and dancing to music. It is my way of letting go.

Running – is one of the only activities when I stop thinking of all the things I have to do! It is just me and the road and nature.

The most popular excuses why women don’t take care of their looks are a lack of time or money, or both. Let’s be honest- mostly it is a lack of love and respect for yourself. Women are so busy with their family life, work, house, that there is sim-ply no energy left for them-selves. Personal grooming is about presenting yourself in the best possible way. It tells people what you think of yourself. Here are some tips on how to polish your beauty at home.

LOVE YOURSELFIt is hard to be a woman, especial-ly a well groomed woman- hair-

style, manicure, pedicure, waxing, exercise, make-up, wardrobe…. It takes a lot of money and time, but in today’s rush it is hard to find even one free minute. Stop! You deserve the best! Be honest with yourself! Treat yourself! Maybe at first you find easier to relax near your computer or the TV, but be-lieve me, after investing time and care in yourself you will feel the delight and satisfaction with the result- not only physical (beau-tiful nails, hair), but also mental (respect for yourself). With some practice and discipline you can make it all without a sports club or a beauty salon.

GOOD SHAPEThe basic is self-discipline. Do you want to be in good shape? It is not necessary to attend a sport club- go running, ride a bike, ex-ercise more and finally- look on the internet for sets of exercises. The most significant thing is to bear in mind that you are doing this only for yourself! It is a price-less investment. Find at least a few minutes every day! Some-times good motivation is to do

this together with your husband or friend. Buy a beautiful track-suit and some great trainers- you will be inspired to wear them…and also to do some exercise. It is very important to have a strict regime. Implement it like a habit, for example- every morning after getting out of bed spend 10-20 min exercising. Remember that on a fit and slim body every gar-ment looks much better!

HAIR Face, skin and hair are like our visiting card. Pay attention to it! Groomed hair means that hair should be clean, neat, tidy and el-

egantly styled. You should wash your hair every other day. Good hair etiquette also means never scratching your head, combing your hair or attempting to tie your hair in public. Consider your life-style, when choosing a hairstyle. If you have a fairly busy schedule, opt for a low maintenance hair-style. A medium long to shoulder length hairstyle is the most versa-tile. You can wear it up or down, straighten it or curl it, tie up in a casual pony tail or leave it as it is. This is for those who enjoy doing their hair. If you have a different hair colour to your natural one, be sure to get your roots done

regularly. Try some new hairstyles when you have time, but don’t experiment before a date or a meeting-, remember experiment-ing can also be a not very positive experience.

AVOCADO MASK FOR DRY, DAMAGED HAIR

Avocados are great moisturizing face masks, but you can use them to nourish your strands as well. Egg yolks are full of fats and pro-teins to naturally revive your hair.

Ingredients:½ avocado1 egg yolkBlend the avocado and egg yolk in a blender. Apply to your hair,

working from the ends up to your scalp. Wrap hair in a shower cap and wait 15-20 minutes (this is a great time to use the egg whites for a pore-tightening facial!). Rinse out in the shower. Shampoo and condition as usual.

HONEY & EGG YOLK HAIR MASK FOR OILY HAIRIngredients:1-2 egg yolks (if you have long hair you will need 2; for shorter hair just use 1).2 teaspoons of honey (the purest the better)Mix together the 2 ingredients and apply to your hair, making sure the whole scalp is covered well. Leave for about 30 minutes

and then rinse off thorough-ly. You might need to rinse your hair a couple of times, though. Proceed with washing your hair (no conditioner is allowed) and it would be best if you use a nettle shampoo. In case you also need to treat hair loss, you need to go for soap and water, instead. The final stage asks you to use lem-on water to rinse your hair. You can easily make lemon water by squeezing 1-2 lemons in 3-4 litres of water. It is a procedure that it would be best if repeated more than once per week and remember not to give up if you don’t see results at once. Let time do its job!

SKINSkin is our mirror. You don’t sleep enough? Eat unhealthy food? Are you tired? Everything shows in your face. Good sleep is the first step, you can’t have vibrant and stunning skin when you are stressed and tired, therefore plan some time for rest. Don’t forget to moisturize your skin as much as possible- from inside drinking a lot of liquid and from outside using masks, scrubs and creams. Your skin will appreciate a vis-it to the sauna. Sauna helps im-prove your skin by opening up your pores and allowing built-up wastes and toxins to flush out as you sweat. Lotions, deodorants, and dead skin cells can clog your pores and lead to acne and pain-ful cysts. The dry heat from the sauna helps your skin avoid infec-tion from these built-up wastes. Also, sauna cleanses your skin by getting rid of the dead skin cells, exposing a fresh new layer of skin that looks and feels younger. Or-ganize a spa evening with your friends- make a mask, manicure, pedicure, dye your hair- you can help each other and you will en-

joy being together.

EGG WHITES AND YOGURT MASK FOR ALL TYPES OF SKIN

Add 2 tablespoons of yogurt (do not use flavoured yogurt!). Mix them up and apply to face. Leave on face for a few minutes then rinse face in warm water, fol-lowed by a warm washcloth.

BANANA, HON-EY AND OATMEAL MASK FOR DRY SKINIngredients:1/2 banana1/2 cup oatmeal1 tablespoon honeyCut the banana in half and mash it with a fork. Mix in the oatmeal. Add honey and mix well. Add wa-ter and mix until the mask has a creamy consistency. Apply even-ly to clean skin, leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water and pat your face dry.

CUCUMBER, EGG WHITE, HONEY, LEMON AND PEP-

PERMINT MASK FOR OILY SKINIngredients:3 tbsp. grated cucumber1 egg white1 tbsp. honey1 tbsp. lemon juice1 tbsp. fresh peppermintGrate the cucumber and beat the egg white in a blender until it makes a foam. Place it in a bowl, and then add the honey, the final-ly chopped fresh mint leaves and the lemon juice. Mix all the ingre-dients with a spoon.Apply to face carefully avoiding the eye area and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

INNER BEAUTY

True beauty comes from with-in. No matter your size, no mat-ter your weight, be confident in who you are and you’ll be beau-tiful. The most attractive wom-an has a smile and sparkle in her eyes. Be happy, enjoy every moment, and find the way you can express yourself and you will definitely have the energy to reach your deepest dreams and goals. FAW

Three “S”s in your life

In the never-ending race through our wonderful lives, we want to squeeze in as much as possi-ble- family, work, travel, meetings, personal devel-opment, studies; there-fore sometimes we do it at the expense of our re-cruitment. We don’t spend enough time on our rec-reation. Let’s talk about three very important “S”s in our lives, which can change our daily produc-tivity, health and general wellbeing.

SLEEPIt is not only a theory that we have to sleep at least eight hours a day. A lot of people consider that this is a waste of time- it is a third of the day and during this time so much else can be done! Sleep, like nutrition and phys-ical activity, is a critical deter-minant of health and well-be-ing. It is a basic requirement for infant, child, and adoles-cent health and development.

Sleep loss and untreated sleep disorders influence basic pat-terns of behaviour that nega-

tively affect family health and interpersonal relationships. Fatigue and sleeplessness can reduce productivity and in-crease the chance of mishaps such as medical errors and motor vehicle or industrial ac-cidents.Sleep is necessary to fight off infections, support the metab-

olism of sugar to prevent di-abetes, to enable us to work effectively, and for safety rea-sons.Sleep timing and duration af-fect a number of endocrinal, metabolic, and neurological functions that are critical to the maintenance of individual health. If left untreated, sleep disorders and chronic short sleep are associated with an in-creased risk of: heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes, all of which can lead to death.

SPORTDo you think that sport is not for you? Think again! There are so many ways in which you can strengthen your physical con-dition and health. First of all, find out what works best for you, jogging, yoga, exercising at home, aerobics, swimming, walking, cycling…. There are endless possibilities! Invite a friend or partner to join you if you feel it will help you not to lose motivation. Buy a beauti-ful and inspiring tracksuit and

Page 29: For Any Woman © - No.9 (14)

foranywoman.com

some new trainers to inspire you with energy and motiva-tion. There are plenty of mo-bile applications and gadgets nowadays which can help you organize your sport regime, find the most appropriate pro-gramme, count calories and prepare the healthiest food. Physical activity can help con-trol your weight, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, the risk of type two diabetes and metabolic syndrome, and

the risk of some cancers. It can strengthen your bones and muscles, improve your mental health and mood and reduce the risk of depression and anx-iety. It can also improve your ability to carry out your daily activities, prevent falls, regu-late your blood pressure and increase your chances of living longer.

SEXSometimes after a long and stressful day you are so tired, that you even don’t want to think about sex, nevertheless you definitely should. It is not only a pleasant activity to share with your partner, but can also be a “doctor” for many diseas-es. Sex starts not in bed, but much earlier. Think about it- what do you like? Maybe you want can-dles, music, massage… let your partner know what you like. Believe me- he will be grateful. Send him a spicy message (or more than one), wear some inspiring underwear and wait for evening- maybe he will sur-

prise you too. Sex is better than any medi-cine- it helps to keep your im-mune system stronger, boosts your libido, improves wom-en’s bladder control, and low-ers blood pressure. It counts

as exercise, lowers the risk of heart attack, lessens pain and may make prostate cancer less likely for your partner. It can also improve sleep and, finally eases stress. FAW

“Aside from working hard, approach-ing work with a positive mental atti-tude and being ambitiousand determined to succeed’’

Jessica Megan (22) lives near King’s Lynn in Norfolk with her fiancé Zak. Jessica’s mod-elling career has involved photo shoots, promotional modelling, a feature role in a short film, working in the motorsport industry as a grid girl and taking part in beauty pageants – currently Jessica is Miss Spirit of True Beauty for Peterborough and recen-lty became the 2nd runner up at the Miss Peterborough.

What are the major reasons for your success? If I am honest I believe that my set-backs and critics are the major rea-sons for my success, as they make me strive to aim high and achieve the best for myself. I was bullied terribly at secondary school be-cause I wore glasses and because I just wanted to get on with my

work, I wasn’t interested in being popular.

How do you handle your crit-ics?I am grateful for critics, as they keep me motivated and on my toes. The first experience I had with crit-ics was being criticised about my looks at school. It was those critics that made me determined to get noticed in the modelling industry, something I never thought I would ever do in my life. Nothing is more satisfying than proving your doubt-ers wrong!

How do you explain your job success?Aside from working hard, ap-proaching work with a positive mental attitude and being ambi-tious and determined to succeed, I feel that my success is also down to always being willing to learn, and

to take on new challenges when faced with them, as this helps me to gain experience and confidence in my job role. Another important factor is flexibility – for example, receiving an email asking if I am free to work at an event the next morning due to somebody cancel-ling has happened to me before, and it pays to be able to take these jobs as it puts me in a good posi-tion to be booked for more work!

When you aren’t at work, do you prefer to stick to a sched-ule, or do you prefer to be spontaneous?I used to prefer to always plan my weekends, but recent health is-sues have taught me that life really is too short to risk missing out on things that can happen when you least expect it! I love this quote from Jennifer Aniston, who sums it up perfectly– ‘The fun stuff comes

when someone is not so strict on sticking to the script. You’re al-lowed the spontaneity, and great moments can happen. What things impress you in your colleagues? My colleagues at work are amazing – they are so kind and are always willing to help. There is always a positive atmosphere as well which really does help in the work envi-ronment.

Where do you go on holiday? What is it about that place?Cyprus is my favourite place to vis-it on holiday, I’ve been going there ever since I was a baby! As well as the gorgeous weather, the scen-ery is beautiful and the people are amazing – they are the most welcoming, friendly and generous people you could ever hope to meet. I feel safe there and when I

return it feels like I am back ‘home’ so to speak.

What are your hobbies? As well as being in front of the cam-era modelling, a hobby of mine is getting behind the camera doing

a bit of photography – living in the countryside is amazing as it means

I can get amazing scenery shots, especially of the beautiful sunsets! I get lots of compliments for my pictures, which encourages me to continue finding locations and tak-ing pictures of the beautiful areas local to me. Also, surviving kidney failure in-spired me to become a Communi-ty Champion for Kidney Research UK, so I like to spend my time rais-ing awareness for the charity and thinking of fundraising ideas.I also did tap and ballet dancing for over 10 years (even doing a few ballet photo shoots for advertising purposes), and once I get the go-ahead from my consultant I will be getting straight back into dancing! Finally, I love my motorsport – be it watching it on TV, reading about it or attending races, I love the atmo-sphere at the race and many of my friends race, so it’s fantastic to be able to support them. OF WOMAN IN BUSINESS -THEN AND NOW

Page 46: For Any Woman © - No.9 (14)

At the beginning of the 19th century a woman was a wife, a mother and a housekeeper. The 20th century ushered in voting rights for women.

The 20th century was greatly af-fected by two world wars, which affected the whole world. At the same time, the war provided fi-nancial independence for women. In this article we will not talk about ancient queens who were handed power and wealth, but we will look at business women, who became successful on their own.In this article you will read about rich and famous women- wom-en who chose to be first in their sphere.

GABRIELLE BONHEUR “COCO” CHANEL Coco Chanel, born on 19th Au-gust 1883, was the founder of the French high fashion empire CHANEL, one of most influential fashion businesses of the 20th century. Her career in the fash-ion business began in 1910, sew-ing bonnets. The following year,

with a loan and her friend’s fi-nancial backing, the first Coco Chanel fashion house opened in Paris. The gateway of success for Chanel was a focused, persistent and fanatical work ethic all of her life. Chanel created new swimsuits and fashion accessories, she cre-ated her own Chanel style. The Chanel perfume business brought fantastic profits and ce-mented the legacy of this business woman.

MADAM C. J. WALKERDid you know that the first female millionaire in USA was African

American, Sarah Breedlove (De-cember 23, 1867 – May 25, 1919)? Known as Madam C. J. Walker, she was a well-known figure in the United States and Europe. She founded a beauty empire in the early 20th century with her devel-opment of the “Walker Method” of hair care for African-Americans. In 1908 she opened the Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company, and a beauty school in Pittsburgh. Madam Walker also opened com-munity centres for her employees that included philanthropic and educational courses. Walker hired agents across the country to sell her products, which carried her likeness on the labels. Madame C.J. Walker’s manufactur-ing company became wildly suc-cessful, with profits that were the modern-day equivalent of several million dollars.

The 20th century twentiesDuring the 1920’s and 1930’s women were very active on stage in the creative sphere. We have all heard of Greta Garbo and Mar-lene Dietrich... Greta Garbo, who starred in silent films and the first

talking pictures, is one of the most popular actresses of her time.Film stars became idols and spec-tators tried to mimic their style in their own appearance. Starting in the 1920’s film stars became more prosperous. New behaviours could be observed already in si-lent movies. Actresses drank alco-hol, smoked in public places, and danced more provocatively. More and more women began to ap-pear in business as women’s suc-cess in films increased.

FRIDA KAHLOThe most famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was born on July 6th, 1907 in Mexico. She had a car ac-cident when she was 18 and had serious injuries with many frac-tures, including her spine and hipbone. While recuperating in the hospital, Frida Kahlo began to paint. In 1929 Frida Kahlo mar-ried cubist, Diego Rivera. She was 21 and he was 43 when they got married. They had a common in-terest in art and both held com-munist beliefs. Frida Kahlo had a very active social life. Their weird love/ hate relationship lasted 25

years, breaking up and returning back together again many times. 1939 was the year of her sensation. By participating in a themed exhibi-tion dedicated to Mexico in Paris, art critics became interested in her paintings, and one of her paintings stayed in Paris - it was purchased to supplement the collection of Louvre. After 1940 her works of art began to be shown in significant exhibitions but at the same time, she began to have serious health problems. Her self-portrait “Raices” in a Sotheby’s auction house was valued at seven million dollars in 2006.

MARGARET THATCHER From 1979 to 1990 Margaret Thatcher was the 71st Prime Min-ister of United Kingdom, and she was first female to hold this high position! You may say that she was not a business woman, she was a politi-cian - but for 10 years she was the head of the British government and led it brilliantly! This is not the same as running a supermarket! Among British Prime Ministers in

20th century, she held her position for the longest of all. The triumphal procession of Baroness Thatcher started at Party, continued at State and finished at World level. Her main goal was to destroy senseless borders between East and West, controlled by dictators. As a result of this plan, Germany was united and the USSR collapsed, setting up independent countries. Marga-ret Thatcher was elevated to the House of Lords in 1992 as Baron-ess Thatcher.

JOANNE KATHLEEN ROWLINGJoanne Kathleen Rowling is recog-

nized as the most influential per-son in Great Britain. The author of the Harry Potter saga, Joanne Kathleen Rowling is the first female novelist in the world to become a billionaire. But her billionaire sta-tus did not last long. Recently the world-famous writer has made generous donations to charities for families with problems and sin-gle parents.Rowling herself was a single moth-er, left by her husband. With a little baby and with no money she wrote and became the writer of world- known book “Harry Potter”.She credits her success to determi-nation in targeting success and her philanthropic temperament. “When I took the leap of faith intothe world of entrepreneurship, Iknew that I wanted to create abusiness that didn’t just put meneatly into a ready-made pigeon-hole’’

Katie Foster is Director of Damsels in Success Bury St Edmunds and Head Busi-ness Stylist and Founder of the Sassy Business Bou-tique. Living for so long in the shadows and slipping silently under the attention radar, she has a profound understanding of how se-verely a lack of confidence and self-worth can impact a person’s life. Slowly but surely though, Katie’s been turning up her internal dimmer switch and let-ting her light shine, as she steps more fully into her own power and brilliance as a woman.

You have created a stylish business that helps women unlock and unleash their Sassy Factor and create businesses and lifestyles they love. How did you come up with this idea? When I took the leap of faith into the world of entrepreneur-ship, I knew that I wanted to create a business that didn’t just put me neatly into a ready-made pigeonhole, I’d had that for 20+ years doing adminis-tration based work and it felt so uninspiring. Instead, I want-ed to create a business that expressed all of who I am; my broad knowledge and skillset from my administration years, my passion for transformation-al changework from my training in counselling and Three Prin-ciples facilitation, as well as all the things that I love and enjoy

in my personal life - creativity, fashion, shoes, etc. I knew I had all of these piec-es that I wanted to incorporate when creating my unique busi-ness, but I couldn’t see how they fitted together. So I invested in working with a couple of coach-es who helped me get clear and tap into my creativity and intu-ition, to create my perfect blend of knowledge and passion. I believe that in order to create a business you adore and that you can continue to fall in love with year on year, you need to bring all of yourself into it.

Katie, in your opinion, what is the profile of a 21st century woman? For me, the 21st century woman is confident, sassy and empow-ered in a feminine way. She un-derstands that her power lies in

“I absolutely adore high heeledshoes!! For me it’s all about thesexy factor when it comes tobuying gorgeous shoes ’’

embracing and embodying her feminine energy so she can con-nect with her natural flow; from this place she’s more creative, more loving and more abundant in every area of her life. When the 21st century woman claims her unique and gorgeous femi-nine power, she allows the men around her to fully reclaim their masculinity, so the natural yin-yang of those male/female rela-tionships can be restored.

Katie, you have a passion for fashion, what are the golden rules to looking fabulous? In my humble opinion, the gold-en rules are, there are no rules! When we throw the rule book out of the window and get really comfortable with fully express-ing ourselves, without limita-tions and without being slaves

to the latest trends, then our uniqueness can really shine. I love seeing women of all ages who are bold and individual with their style and don’t give a damn whether they’re fitting in with the latest look or not – now that to me is fabulousness in action!

We have heard that you are keen on high heeled shoes as well. What factors are important for you, when you buy really good shoes?I absolutely adore high heeled shoes!! For me it’s all about the sexy factor when it comes to buying gorgeous shoes; when I slip them onto my feet I want them to not only feel great but look amazing too. I express my unique Sassy Factor through my shoes and I know when I’ve struck gold because everything

about the way I hold myself changes and I feel sexy, confi-dent, feminine and empowered.

You are now starting up a Damsels in Success group in Bury St Edmunds. What plans do you have for cre-ating a personal growth community for women in East Anglia? At Damsels in Success we re-ally do change the way women live and work and there’s a very unique magic about our groups and I can’t wait to share that with the women in the area. The Bury St Edmunds group will be the very first in Suffolk and the ‘Live the Dream’ launch event is on 11th September. I really want to capture the pio-neering nature of this group in a very special way by creating a ‘pay it forward’ scheme, which

Page 55: For Any Woman © - No.9 (14)

“I need to have balance in my lifeand a place where I can go to recon-nect and fill myself up withoutany guilt’’

means that whenever a woman invests in herself by becoming a member of the Bury St Ed-munds group, I’ll take a percent-age of her investment and pay it forward to a local and an inter-national charity.   I just love the idea that by investing in our own development, we’ll be sending a ripple out into the world that will impact others in a positive way too.   That’s definitely a win-win in my eyes!

What are your needs, strengths and goals?I need to have balance in my life and a place where I can go to re-connect and fill myself up with-out any guilt – Damsels is this place for me. My strengths are my vulnerability, my trust in our human spirit and my patience. My goals are to create an incred-ible Damsels community for the

women of Suffolk, where we can grow and shine both profession-ally and personally and to reach as many women as possible and help them unlock and unleash their gorgeous Sassy Factors.

Do you listen to your intu-ition?Absolutely! I know that my intu-ition is there to guide me along the path that’s for my greatest purpose. When I decided to step up and become a Dam-sels in Success Director I felt the calm and peaceful knowledge of my intuition and it helped me to see that this is the perfect next step for me.

What inspires you?Watching my clients transform from the inside-out and letting go of years of negative thinking. FAW

“The ideal, perfect career wouldbe to wake up every morning witha smile on my face and eager tostart my working day.’’

Alexandra Gorgan is a very complex person, with lots of projects and ideas. She is the type of person who cannot work 9-5 and would rather work 24/7 doing the things she loves: making people prettier and happy with themselves. It was a long journey for her to get here but now she couldn’t be happier.

Can you see yourself doing what you are doing right now for the rest of your life?Yes I can, but with a few improve-ments.Why do you want to work in this business niche market?I was always passionate about fashion and beauty since I could walk. I remember watching fash-ion shows and thinking: I want to be the one who makes all those

people pretty and interesting. Ev-erything about it took my breath away: the extreme makeup and hair, the impressive accessories, the interesting outfits. I would do my own fashion shows with dolls and tried to recreate what I had seen. The best part was that I had many dolls to experiment on. The makeup and fashion industry is always growing and changing and improving and I think that at-tracts me the most.

Describe your ideal career. The ideal, perfect career would be to wake up every morning with a smile on my face and eager to start my working day. To not have to think about rent, bills and have all the new and best make-up products on the market. That would be so amazing. FAW: Which is more important to you, the money or type of job?

This is a difficult one. I would be a hypocrite if I said that money is not important. Obviously it’s im-portant to do what you love and what makes you happy, and I will always agree with that, but money is also important. So I would say, for me, they are equally import-ant. I wouldn’t sell my soul to be rich but I will not work for nothing either.

What’s the first thing you think of when you wake up?It might sound a bit corny but ev-ery morning when I wake up I feel grateful for my life and family. We never make time to just think of how blessed we are for the things we have.

Three most adventurous things you have done so far?The most adventurous thing I’ve done was to move to London two

years ago. It was hard to leave all my friends and family behind and start over alone in such a busy city but I don’t regret a thing. I can’t think of anything else to be honest. I do sound a bit boring now, don’t I?

If you could meet a legend, dead or alive, who would it be?In my case it has to be a band: The Cranberries. I have had a crush on them since I was a baby. Every time I heard „Zombie”, my whole world stopped. I used to stand in front of the TV without moving or breathing. Even now, when I hear the song I get chills all over my body.

If you were given £60 to start a business, how would you do it?I started my business as a make-

up artist with a lot more to be honest but I could have done it with £60. You buy the basic things you need, do a few makeup looks on yourself and then send them to photographers and stylists. Soon you get jobs, less paid to start with, but in a short time you earn the money you invested in the products. Don’t give up!

What drives you crazy?Shallow people drive me nuts.

Which movie character would you be?If I could be anybody I would prob-ably be Superman because he gets to fly everywhere. No more traffic jams.

What is the greatest piece of wisdom you’ve ever been given?I have to say that is something my mother told me: Follow your heart and do what makes you happy. I bet you were expecting something mind blowing but this it actually the most important thing a person needs to know.

What are your hobbies? My favourite things to do are reading, travelling and learning new things, dancing the night away and running with music in your ears. FAW

A perfect start to your shared home

“A house is made with walls and beams. A home is made of love and dreams”

The question is which one do you prefer, a house or a home? If it is the latter then read on for some helpful ad-vice.Remember there is no per-fect floor plan, not unless you build your fabulous home from scratch. If you are currently living in a home together that is even better. Make a list of all the pros and cons of your cur-rent home and when you home hunt, take it with you and pay attention to what you wrote and make further notes of your findings.

Page 71: For Any Woman © - No.9 (14)

foranywoman.com

Do not be afraid to take a tape measure when home hunting to see if your needs can fit into a potential home. Draw on plain paper to scale with your furniture and play around with it. There are software pages you can find over the internet that can be used in-stead of hand drawing like the il-lustrated one.

Think “how you will we use our home in the short, medium and long term?” Can your new home accommodate all your desires? It could be the arrival of new baby or the running of your business from home, your home needs

to adapt with you. Storage is al-ways important especially when children are young. The younger they are the more floor space is required and the older they get, they start to use their bedroom walls and less of the floor.

Picture your family using the home, will you be more sociable with your children and partner when you cook or do you prefer to cook alone? This is a person-al choice and not everyone is the same. It will be relevant to how if you want the rooms, open plan or partitioned.Assess how many rooms you

need for the family. Will you need three bedrooms for the ‘growing children’ or an extra bathroom for visitors? Is it possible to con-vert some of the space such as an over large cupboard into that extra bathroom? At this early stage, do not be over-ly concerned if you do not like the colour or the wallpaper of a par-ticular room(s) or if it looks aes-thetically too small or too big..., yes rooms can also look too big. These issues can be addressed with colour, soft furnishings and other methods of design at a lat-er stage. At this moment please use your head and not your heart. Take measurements, these will tell you the truth if it is the right size for your ideal home environ-ment. Your heart comes into play at the point of re-decorating and adding curtains etc.Look at the size of the rooms and their shape, this will have an ef-fect on the amount of natural light penetrating deep into the room during the day. Do not be put off, if for example the natural light in one room is not what you want but it is sufficient in the rest

INTERIOR DESIGN

Page 72: For Any Woman © - No.9 (14)

72 ////

of the rooms, it can be adapted with lighting fixtures. A room can be large but narrow and its window positions may hin-der your plans. These are things to consider since it will modify the furniture you want to buy or you currently have which might mean the expense of buying furniture that you did not want to in the first place. Think of the scope of modifica-tions. Can the windows be made larger or moved. Can a wall be re-moved to an adjacent room for an open plan effect to compensate? Always ask a qualified tradesper-son for advice. Do not be afraid to ask the current owners if you can show them around and ask if you can take pictures to discuss later with your family.

Would you want your space to be open plan, a kitchen that joins into the dining then on to the family rooms or a more par-titioned system? This practical issue will change the interaction of all your family members. The more open plan, the more inte-gration through conversation,

play and pastimes. The down side being more noise, the smell of cooking and less privacy. It really depends on what is more import-ant to you. Put this on your pros and cons list. Are you going to use your current

furniture, buy new or a mixture of both? Make a note of your future plans, look in the shops and work out how much space is needed. Lastly, listen to your gut feeling and each other and most of all have fun. FAW
