A.2.0 2015 SURVEY;METHODS

A.2.1 Rantor Nest Survey

All known raptor nests within the permit atea and a :Q.5-lni buffer were located a11d sutveyed by

A.2.2 Greater Sage-grouse Lek.Surveys

project areCJ. were searched for activity (thre.e site visits) between April 2 and May l, 2015_, in

accordance with the CJ."pprovecl wildlife monitoring plan. No~1e of these lel<.s are located within

each .iek, and surveys were co'nduetecl froin as close to sunrise as possible to 0.5 hopr after

sumise.

A.:to .2015 RESULTS

A.3.1 Railtor Nest Snrvey

Seventy~eight nests \vithin the raptor 11est stttvey area were StJrvey~d by biologists fi·om WH<llife

Resqurces, LLc;, c;if Bi$ Hqrn, Wyoniii1g, during the Sprjhg qf 2015. Of the 78 nests, 'eight n~sts

were determ~ned to be a9tive. Active nests iiwluded three tecl ta:ileq hawk 11ests, one great

honwd ow.l nest, <;me prairie falcon aerie, one ttJrkey vulture nest, one golden eagle IJest, and qne

long eaJed owl nest. The red taiJed lu.nyk, gt'.e~t horned owl, turkey \11.llture, ;md prai_de falcon

nests were located h1 9r nearthe Hank Unit survey area and the golden eagle and long e.ared owl

nests were located near tl~e Nichq1s Ranch U11H. Only two nests--the great homecl owl i1est and

the golden eagle nest produced young. The locations and status of all 78 nests are des.cdbed in

Table A.1 and illustrated on Exhibit Al. Four nest structures were newly recorded in 2015. The

four new nests are located within the Hank Unit. The incre~se in the munber of nests was likely

due to increased familiarity of the field biologists with the project area (specifically the

Hank Unit) associated with the mgged c01iditions and dense vegetation around that ,portion of the

Punipkin Buttes. Two of the new nests w.ere also active in 2015 and were occupied by red tailed

hawks.

A.3.2 Greater Sage-grouse Lek Surveys

El~ven l~ls:s w~re surveyed three times be.twee_n Api:il 2 and May 1, 20f5, by biologists from

Wildlife R,esourc·es, tLC; of Big Hor11, Wyoming. Foi1i: of the leks (Windihi_il Satellite,
