SAFETY SHOE COMPONENTS

Safety footwear is often heavier at the front of the shoe due to the steel toe cap. This can cause the foot to flex in the incorrect place, putting strain on the intricate bones, tendons and muscles in the foot.

The shank is a support piece in the middle of the shoe between the leather upper and the midsole.

SHANK REINFORCEMENT

The last is the shape on which the footwear is made. Every walking step exerts pressure up to three times your body weight onto your feet.

A steel toe cap is the minimum requirement for footwear to be classified as “safety footwear”.

STEEL TOE CAP

The midsole is a foamy layer between the leather upper and the denser outer sole. This PU, or polyurethane layer comprises of small bubbles which ensure that the footwear remains light and comfortable. The midsole is also direct-injected ensuring that no glue or stitching is needed for strength.

MIDSOLE

The unique Jonsson outer soles are of premium quality and imported from Italy. The quality of the outer sole is important and durability is essential, as this forms part of the shoe bearing the brunt of the contact with the walking surface.

Only the best quality full grain buffalo leather and suede leather is used to manufacture the uppers of the Jonsson Safety Shoes.

Full grain buffalo leather is an unaltered animal hide allowing for fibre strength and durability. This type of leather allows breathability, resulting in less moisture build up for a hygienic, temperature controlled foot environment.

Nubuck leather is an animal hide that has been slightly buffed on the outer layer providing a soft, velvet-like appearance.

The tongues, sides and collars of the safety shoes are extra cushioned for comfort. They are manufactured from tough mesh or Cordura and double stitched for durability.

• If you are working in environments where there is risk of objects penetrating through the soles, a steel midsole is recommended for extra protection. • Regular maintenance of your footwear is

important. Remove dirt daily and leave in a well ventilated area to air dry.

• A clean sock is recommended to be used each day. For the best in foot care, a good quality cotton sock is recommended. • Remove the inner sole once a week and clean thoroughly. It is also recommended that you vacuum the inside of the shoe to get rid of loose debris.• To maintain the neatness of your leather upper, avoid scuffing.

The Jonsson safety footwear range has been specifically designed to withstand some of the toughest working conditions, and manufactured to be hardwearing and fitfor purpose.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• This spun bonded cloth provided in every Jonsson shoe box can be used to polish your shoe.• Remove dirt and marks on the leather with a damp cloth.• Remove any further dirt with a commercial brush used for leather care.• Ensure that the sole tread pattern is regularly cleaned of any excess dirt or stones.• After the shoes have been cleaned, leave them in a ventilated environment to dry naturally.• Once your shoe is clean and dry, use a commercial leather shoe care product to polish your shoe.• For suede footwear, brush and use a commercial suede protector spray. If the suede gets wet, sponge

down the entire boot and stuff with newspaper while it dries to maintain its shape.

The PU midsole is biodegradable and therefore the footwear should not be left in a dark, unaired environment for periods of longer than 24 months.

NOTE:

The inner lining of the shoe as well as the inner sock is treated with a substance called Ultra-fresh. This substance has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, ensuring the wearer’s foot is protected from foot conditions and free from foot odour. The vamp lining also has excellent perspiration absorbency properties ensuring lower heat build-up inside the shoe for a healthier foot environment.

The SABS approved gumboot uppers and soles are made from virgin PVC

to ensure maximum durability.

The SABS uppers are virgin PVC with 55 Shore (hardness to ensure maximum flexibility). This SABS gumboot complies to SABS 1320- Type 1, Class 2 (PVC injected twice - non steel toe cap).

This gumboot has a wide fit steel toe cap as well as a steel midsole

GUMBOOT CAREFoot hygiene is particularly important when wearing gumboots, as sweat cannot be absorbed by PVC and the combination of heat and sweat can become a breeding ground for bacteria and germs.

The polyester inner sock lining of the gumboot allows for easy cleaning and quick drying. A mild disinfectant can be used in the interior of the gumboot but must be rinsed thoroughly and left to air dry. The insole may be taken out, loose dirt removed and thereafter washed with mild soap and water and left out to dry.

The outside of the gumboot can be washed with mild soap and water. Chemicals or solvents should never be used, as these will cause the gumboot to become brittle and crack.

To remove soil build up in the tread pattern of the sole, use mild soap, water and a scrubbing brush.

Never use heat to accelerate the drying process.
