Day 1: 1 Samuel 1 There was a certain man from Ramathaim, a Zuphite from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. He had two wives; one was called Hannah and the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none. Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh, where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were priests of the Lord. Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb. Because the Lord had closed Hannah’s womb, her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her. This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the Lord, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat.

Day 2: 1 Samuel 1 Now Eli the priest was sitting on his chair by the doorpost of the Lord’s house. In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.” As she kept on praying to the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.” “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.” Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”

My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies,

for I delight in your deliverance. “There is no one holy like the Lord;

there is no one besides you;     there is no Rock like our God.”

The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the Lord, where the ark of God was. Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.” And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down. Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realised that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Day 5: 1 Samuel 12   “But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me, ‘No, we want a king to rule over us’—even though the Lord your God was your king.  Now here is the king you have chosen, the one you asked for; see, the Lord has set a king over you.  If you fear the Lord and serve and obey him and do not rebel against his commands, and if both you and the king who reigns over you follow the Lord your God—good! But if you do not obey the Lord, and if you rebel against his commands, his hand will be against you, as it was against your ancestors.”

Day 6: 1 Samuel 16 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”... So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;     my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,     my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior—     from violent people you save me. I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,     and have been saved from my enemies. The waves of death swirled about me;     the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. The cords of the grave coiled around me;     the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called to the Lord;     I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice;     my cry came to his ears.

When we live our lives within the shadow of God Most High, our secret hiding place, we will always be shielded from harm.

How then could evil prevail against us or disease infect us? God sends angels with special orders to protect you wherever you go,

defending you from all harm. If you walk into a trap, they’ll be there for you

and keep you from stumbling. You’ll even walk unharmed among the fiercest powers of darkness,

trampling every one of them beneath your feet! For here is what the Lord has spoken to me:

“Because you have delighted in me as my great lover, I will greatly protect you.

I will set you in a high place, safe and secure before my face.  I will answer your cry for help every time you pray,

and you will find and feel my presence even in your time of pressure and trouble.

I will be your glorious hero and give you a feast. You will be satisfied with a full life and with all that I do for you.

For you will enjoy the fullness of my salvation!”

Psalm 91 (TPT)

When you sit enthroned under the shadow of Shaddai, you are hidden in the strength of God Most High. He’s the hope that holds me and the Stronghold to shelter me, the only God for me, and my great confidence. He will rescue you from every hidden trap of the enemy, and he will protect you from false accusation and any deadly curse. His massive arms are wrapped around you, protecting you. You can run under his covering of majesty and hide. His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm. You will never worry about an attack of demonic forces at night nor have to fear a spirit of darkness coming against you. Don’t fear a thing! Whether by night or by day, demonic danger will not trouble you, nor will the powers of evil launched against you. Even in a time of disaster, with thousands and thousands being killed, you will remain unscathed and unharmed. you will be a spectator as the wicked perish in judgment, for they will be paid back for what they have done!

Proverbs 4: 1-9 (ESV)   Hear, O sons, a father's instruction,     and be attentive, that you may gain insight, for I give you good precepts;     do not forsake my teaching. When I was a son with my father,     tender, the only one in the sight of my mother, he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words;     keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom; get insight;     do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;     love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,     and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;     she will honour you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a graceful garland;     she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.”

Jude 24-25 (Adapted from TPT)

Now, to the one with enough power to prevent us from stumbling into sin and bring us faultless before his glorious presence to stand before him with ecstatic delight, to the only God our Savior, through our Lord Jesus Christ, be endless glory and majesty, great power and authority—from before he created time, now, and throughout all the ages of eternity. Amen!
