A Riddle: Who is the oldest man in the Bible? Methu-
selah; he lived 969 years. Yet he died before his father!
How can that be? His father was Enoch… At age 65,
something happened; he then “walked with God” for
300 years…and then God “took him” (Gen 5:24).

that Kenan is synonymous with “Cainan.”)

not see death; and was not found, because God
had translated him: for before his translation he
had this testimony, that he pleased God.

The Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed.
Ten Attributes of the Messiah
[These notes were submitted by Matt Matsen, KI
Member]
1) Adam = Man - Mankind, everyone. And so it is writ-
ten, “The rst man Adam became a living being.” The
last Adam became a life-giving spirit (1 Cor 15:45).
2) Seth = Appointed - Is xed in place. For God did not
appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through ourLord Jesus (1 Thess 5:9).
3) Enosh = Mortal - Human, Not everlasting but
nite, has an ending point. And the Word became esh
and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory
as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and
truth (Jn 1:14).
4) Kenan = Sorrow - Heartbreak, grief, anguish, pain.
And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then
His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down
to the ground (Lk 22:44).
5) Mahalalel = Blessed God - God who is worthy to be
honored in worship. Of whom are the fathers and from
whom, according to the esh, Christ came, who is over
all, the eternally blessed God. Amen (Rom 9:5).
6) Jared = Shall Come Down - Will humble one’s self,
descend to a lower level. And being found in appear-
ance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obe-
dient to the point of death, even the death of the cross
(Phil 2:8).
7) Enoch = Teaching. But Simon Peter answered Him,“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of
eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that
You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (John
6:68-69).
8) Methuselah = His Death Shall Bring - His death
shall mark the beginning of something new. Much
more then, having now been justied by His blood, we
shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when
we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the
death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled,
we shall be saved by His life (Rom 5:9-10).
9) Lamech = Despairing - Hopeless. And about the
ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, say-
ing, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, MyGod, why have You forsaken Me?” (Mt 27:46, Ps 22:1).
10) Noah = Rest, Comfort - Peace of Mind or Spirit.
Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest (Mt 11:28; Mk 5:15).

Luke’s vs. Matthew’s Genealogy
Matthew goes through the royal line down to Joseph,
the legal father of Jesus Christ. In the rst 17 verses
of Matthew, he makes the case that Jesus had legal
title to the Throne of David.
The Problem: The Messiah, the royal line, wouldbe from the tribe of Judah (Gen 49:10). The Messiah
would be from the line of David (Ruth 4:22; 2 Sam
7:11-16). The succession of the kings of Judah proved
to be, with only a few exceptions, a dismal chain. We
eventually encounter Jeconiah (aka Johoiachin) who is
so bad, God nally pronounced a “blood curse” on him
(Jer 22:30).
How could the Messiah come from the royal line if
there’s a blood curse on the royal line? Luke reveals
God’s solution in his genealogy.

Why the Virgin Birth?
(Many theological reasons), but one simple reason is
to provide a way around the blood curse on Jeconiah.
Mary, having married within her tribe, carries the
inheritance: Heli would have adopted Joseph as his
son-in-law. As per the Torah exception provided for the
daughters of Zelophehad.
The Daughters of Zelophehad.
The Torah provides for inheritance through the daugh-
ter, if no sons were available and she married within
her tribe (Num 26:33; 27:1-11; 36:2-12; Josh 17:3-6; 1
Chr 7:15). By tradition, the father would legally adopt
his son-in-law in such cases (Ezra 2:61; Neh 7:63;
32:41; cf.1 Chr 2:21-23, 34-35; Num 27:3-8).
And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years
of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph,
which was the son of Heli,
Luke 3:23
nomi,zw, nomizo, reckoned as by law—Joseph was the
son-in-law of Heli [According to Lachmann, Tischen-
dorf, Tregelles, Alford, Westcott and Hort: Jerusalem
Talmud, Chag. 77,4. Cf. E.W. Bullinger, Number in
Scripture, Kregel, Grand Rapids, MI, from 1894 repro-
duction, p. 160 note.]
We discover that every detail in Scripture proves to bedeliberate and relevant and ultimately points to Jesus
Christ!
Matthew’s genealogy goes from the top down. Luke’s
(slightly different) genealogy goes in reverse order.
Luke lays out his genealogy in climatic order ( Cf. 1 Cor
15:22, 45; Rom 5:17). Adam (as were the angels) was a
direct creation of God. We are the sons of a fallen Adam
(cf. John 1:11,12).
Why did Samuel appoint a Benjamite to the kingship
rather than one from the tribe of Judah?
The Book of Ruth (Summary)
Some ostensible paradoxes:
Judah was the Royal tribe (Gen. 49:10). How could
Samuel anoint Saul from the tribe of Benjamin? (1 Sam
15:1). David wasn’t ready yet. Prophesied in the days of
Judges (Ruth 4:12).
How could Boaz marry a Moabitess? The Law legally
forbade intermarriage (Deut 7:2,3). Especially to a
Moabite (Deut 23:3). Boaz’s mother was Rahab theharlot (Mt 1:5). The Law shut Ruth out; grace took her
in (Rom 8:3,4).
Prophetic Points:
• Boaz is a type of a kinsman redeemer;
• Naomi is a type of Israel;
• Ruth, the gentile, is taken as a wife;
• Naomi meets Boaz through Ruth;
• Ruth learns the ways from Naomi;
• Ruth is at the feet of Boaz in threshing oor scene.
• Prophetic Blessing / Marriage Toast (Ruth 4:11).
• Famous in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2; Ruth 4:12).
• House like Perez? (Gen 38:6-29). Bastard ineligible
for inheritance until 10th generation (Deut 23:2).
• The genealogy at the end of the book of Ruth showsDavid at the 10th generation.
Pharez
Genesis begins the story of Joseph in Gen 37, which
continues to the end in Gen 50. But in Gen 38 we
encounter a sordid episode where Judah is tricked
into having sex with his daughter-in-law Tamar, who
gives birth to two sons out of wedlock. (Why is this re-
corded here?) Pharez was the illegitimate son of Judah

Page 15Page 14
and Tamar (Gen 38:6-29). An illegitimate son cannot
inherit for 10 generations (Deut 23:2). The 10 th genera-
tion from Pharez was David! (Ruth 4:12).
Messianic Genealogy
• The most distinguished Family Tree in history.
• Encrypted in Torah (Gen 38).
• Prophesied in Judges (Ruth 4).
• Evades the blood curse on Jeconiah (Jer 22:30).
• Virgin Birth (Gen 3:15; Isa 7:14; Ps 69, 110).

The Dead Sea scrolls (from before 68 a .d.) make refer-
ence to “a suffering Messiah” whose hands and feet
were pierced, who “suffered and died for the sins of the
people.” Those living in the famous Jewish community
at Qumram were believers!
Satan’s Stratagem
It is interesting to note Satan’s repeated attempts
to eradicate the Messianic line from Eve onwards
throughout history. (Cf. Noah’s Flood, et al.) From
Cain and Abel, to the slaughter of the infants in Egypt,
the repeated attempts to interrupt the royal line, even
to the slaughter of the babes in Bethlehem. (Summary:

Tola ‘[l’AT is the scarlet-worm, Cermes vermilio, a scale-
insect which feeds upon the oak, and which is used for
producing a red dye.
The female tola when it reproduces, climbs to a branch
of a tree and bears its eggs on it. When the eggs hatch
and become larvae, they eat the body of the motherworm. The worm dies in the process, and a crimson spot
is left in the branch of the tree. Then, after three days,
the scarlet/crimson spot dries out and changes color to a
snow white color—and falls off and akes away!
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD:
though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white
as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall
be as wool.

Mary had other children, which conrms the record
in the Gospels (Mt 13:55; Mk 6:3). He became an alien
unto His mother’s children—not His father’s children
because Joseph was not His father. They were half-
brothers and half-sisters. It may have been a very
unhappy home.
This verse tells a lot we would not know otherwise.
Possibly her boys, James, Judas and Joses, said to her,
“Mother, we heard somebody said that Jesus is not
really our brother. They said that nobody knows who
His father is.” It must have been interesting when they
later discover who He really is!!
This verse also teaches the virgin birth of Christ.
Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother
called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses,
and Simon, and Judas?
Matthew 13:35
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and
I was the song of the drunkards.
Psalm 69:12
The drunkards at the local bar made up dirty little
ditties about Him and His mother. Those who are “sit-
ting in the gate” are the high ofcials of the town, the
judges. The best people in Nazareth also spoke against
Him. (You know how forgiving small towns are!) His
life in Nazareth was not nice.
Why did He endure all of this? He was raised in a
town where He was called illegitimate in order that I
might be a legitimate son of God. The Son of God bore
that for me on the cross; He paid the penalty for my
sins. We have no idea what He endured for 30 years in
order that we might have a clear title as a legitimate
son of God.

Jesus really was who He said He was?

little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of
thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be
ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been
from of old, from everlasting.
Micah 5:2
What is the probability of any person, taken at random,
of fullling this?

p ≤ 104 / 109 = 1:105
Number 2
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O
daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh
unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly,
and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the
foal of an ass.

cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and
departed, and went and hanged himself. And the
chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, “It
is not lawful for to put them into the treasury,
because it is the price of blood.” And they took
counsel, and bought with them the potter’s eld,
to bury strangers in. Wherefore that eld was
called, The eld of blood, unto this day.
Matthew 27:4-8
The Precision of Zech 11:13

Number 5
And one shall say unto him, “What are these
wounds in thine hands?” Then he shall answer,
“Those with which I was wounded in the house
of my friends.”

Thomas’ Unbelief
But he [Thomas]said unto them, “Except I shall see
in his hands the print of the nails, and put my nger
into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into
his side, I will not believe.” John 20:25
And after eight days again his disciples were
within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus,
the doors being shut, and stood in the midst,
and said, “Peace be unto you.” Then saith he to
Thomas, “Reach hither thy nger, and behold my
hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it
into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.”
And Thomas answered and said unto him,
“My Lord and my God.” Jesus saith unto him,
“Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast
believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and
yet have believed.”
John 20:26-29

How many, taken at random, have died by having
hands and feet pierced?
p ≤ 1:10,000
Composite Probabilities
If a population has 60% male and 40% female, what
is the probability that one taken at random is female?
p = 0.4
If a population is 60% right handed and 40% left
handed, what is the probability that someone taken at
random is left handed?
p = 0.4
What is the probability of selecting a left-handed fe-
male? (see chart below).
p = 0.4 x 0.4 = .16
8 Prophecies Combined
• Total population ≤100 billion (1011)
• Combined probabilities:
1028/1011 = 1017
A “bucket” of 1017 silver dollars would ll the entire
state of Texas to a depth of two feet!
16 Prophecies Combined
Remember, there are over 300 to choose from; the next
8 would be more specic (each less likely than the pre-
vious). Assuming no decrease in likelihoods:
1028 x 1028 = 1056
1056/1011 = 1045
How big of a “bucket” do we need now? A ball of silver
dollars with a radius that is 30 times the distance be-
tween the earth and the sun!
48 Prophecies Combined
Over 300 to choose from; assuming no decrease in
likelihoods:
1028 x 1028 x 1028 x 1028 x 1028 x 1028 = 10168
Combined probabilities: 10168/1011 = 10157
Silver dollars won’t work this one…

Make a “ball” of every atom in the universe: 1066.
Make one for each atom of the universe:
1066 x 1066 = 10132
Repeat this exercise every second since the universe
began:
10132 x 1017 = 10149
10149 vs. 10157 ? …we are still short by 108: 100,000,000
times… and we’ve dealt with only 48 of over 300
prophecies!
