Responsible travel

Footprint’s mission is rooted in responsible travel. We have remained diligent in designing products that benefit the communities we visit and activities that are environmentally friendly. Our biking and trekking tour options continue to grow and we are actively working with new communities to start new projects and partnerships.

Our ability to be a leader in responsible travel has not affected the price of our tours and packages. Prices remain competitive and our guests have the luxury of traveling in a way that is greener and more sustainable.

Customized educational tours

Vietnam is a live classroom with countless, meaningful opportunities to learn. Cultural, environmental and educational tours are quite common.

Footprint has facilitated cultural exchanges between organizations and schools. One of our favorite memories was a visit we facilitated between the Red Dao people from northern Vietnam and a group of Australian aborigines.

Tailor-made voluntours

Sapa, Pu Luong, and Ha Long Bay are just a few examples of places that have played host destination to a number of customized voluntours. At Footprint, we are finding that many of our guests want to do something more than just travel. They want to leave their mark.

Our closeness with the communities and villages we visit allow us to help you create small projects that can become part of your visit. We have seen families come and work in the rice fields, small school groups help fix a remote school playground, and large corporations fund and take part in building a new school.

VietnamWar and foreign occupation are history now. Instead, there is a rich ‘ancientness’ that shines through daily life in Vietnam. From the burgeoning street-food culture to the exquisite hill-tribe handicraft, visitors are treated with interesting customs and detailed craftsmanship. From Hanoi to Saigon, relaxing along the extensive coastline or exploring the Ho Chi Minh trail, Vietnam’s diversity in culture and geography is astounding.

Page 9: Footprint Vietnam Travel Brochure 2012

Hanoi Everything you’ve read or heard about Hanoi is remarkably true. The overloaded motorcycles, the lively markets, and some of the world’s best street food are all here. Abounding with history, culture and heritage, museum and gallery hopping are popular activities in and around Hanoi’s famous Old Quarter.

Ha Long & Bai Tu Long BayThere is magic in Ha Long and Bai Tu Long Bay. There is no better way to experience it than to be aboard one of Footprint’s royal junks. The food is magnificent and the sites and activities will leave you with lasting memories.

| 9SapaSapa itself is a busy little town; a crossroad of cultures converging then venturing off into the inspirational, misty mountain landscape. The area offers superb trekking to nearby hill tribe villages tucked within the terraced rice paddies. Footprint is proud to support Ta Phin village’s community based tourism efforts with our tours.

Page 12: Footprint Vietnam Travel Brochure 2012

Moc ChauCool weather year round and only a half-day’s drive away from Hanoi, it is almost unbelievable that more visitors don’t frequent the area. Footprint has been working with the local tribal villages - like Chieng Yen - to create educational community-based tourism products for visitors. A great destination for rambling, hiking, or trekking.

Ha Giang Adventure and cultural extremes in a setting that you will not be able to describe in words what you see and feel. Seemingly impossible roads lead to villages that few have gone to. Ha Giang is best suited for the intrepid traveler, the curious explorer, or the budding anthropologist. Trekking, market-hopping, and motorcycling are popular choices.

Page 15: Footprint Vietnam Travel Brochure 2012

Cao BangDeep into the northeast, a great distance off the beaten track, adventure is at its full potential. Still, Cao Bang is accessible, and those who make the effort are rewarded with important historical sites and natural wonders. Several sites mark where Ho Chi Minh lived and worked before the 1945 revolution. Ban Gioc waterfall is not to be missed!

Diving deep into the earth is not the only attraction to Quang Binh. The white sand coastline is a great place to take a well-deserved break.

Mui Ne Pristine untouched and easily accessible beaches await you at Mui Ne’s seaside. Nevertheless, many find themselves torn away by their creative-side reaching for their camera. Playing amateur photographer comes easy in an area so diverse in its landscapes. A trip to the red and white sand dunes just might be where you get your ‘best shot of the trip’.

Page 23: Footprint Vietnam Travel Brochure 2012

SaigonAn incredible contrast from Ha Noi. From street side meals and ancient kings, to neon lights and all hustle-and-bustle. Saigon is youthful yet sophisticated, holding a charming air of modern philosophy in a post-colonial Vietnamese setting. Besides market-shopping, museums, cyclo-tours, and sightseeing, evening drinks and a little dancing should be planned as part of the experience.
