Powered air respirators use a battery powered fan and motor to draw air through a filter and up a breathing tube into a headtop. Supplied Air respirators use a hose to draw breathable quality air from a compressed air source through a regulator and up a breathing tube into a headtop. Both types of respirator are able to offer protection against particles, gases and vapours.
The key benefits of powered & supplied air respirators are:
• Integrated head, eye, hearing, face and respiratory protection
• No requirement to fit test
• No increase in breathing resistance

3M Hearing Protective EquipmentFor protection against noise exposureMost food and beverage industries have processes which create high noise levels which exceed the 80dB(A) and 85dB (A) action levels.
For example, noise levels of 85-89dB(A) can occur in bakery, dairy and confectionery industries, whilst noise levels of 100dB(A) are not uncommon in milling, dmk production and the meat industry. The processes listed below are particularly associated with high noise levels.
• Glass bottling lines 85-100dB(A)*
• Wrapping, cutting wrap, bagging etc 85-89dB(A)*
• Milling operations 85-100dB(A)*
• Blast chillers/ freezers 85-107dB(A)*
• Manually pushing wheeled trolleys, racks etc. up to 107dB(A)*
• Product impact on hoppers 90-100dB(A)*
• Bowl choppers (Pneumatic noise and compressed air) 85-107dB(A)*
• Jaws/cutting machinery 85-107dB(A)*
• Packaging machinery 85-89dB(A)*
3M has a range of metal detectable personal protection equipment which helps prevent the contamination of food. Many of the products are reusable to save expenditure over time as well as being comfortable to wear. There are also spares and accessories available to keep protective equipment clean and hygenic.
