Jan 1, 2015

Dear Parents and Students,

We hope that the past school year was a great one and that everyone has enjoyed the summer holidays!

Over the past year we have made a lot of changes to make your lunchtime an enjoyable experience. This year, we are committed to working even harder to offer you great tasty food.

We have designed menus to consistently improve variety, taste, appearance and nutritional quality. New dishes and recipes have been developed and introduced.

Health and wellbeing

With the help of our expert nutritionist, Sodexo and the Food Committee have worked on a comprehensive School Healthy Catering Policy, especially designed for British International School Shanghai. Catering provided at British International School Shanghai will reflect the food and drink recommendation of the UK Government Dietary Guidelines for healthy eating.

Listening to you

We strive to continuously improve our meals. The Nutrition Committee has used student feedback via the student council, staff and junior student surveys to redesign the menu.

All students will be offered a vegetarian option now.

Social awareness

As part of the school community, Sodexo is committed to developing social awareness

in British International School students. Our Nutritionist has worked with students from year

1-year 6 to look at healthy eating and working to reduce food wastage. We will continue to organize “Limit Food Waste Competition Weeks”.

Early years Services

Food habits and attitudes start early in life. Kindergarten students are at an age where they need to learn the basics of the eating. Our nutritionist has created menus with a variety of tastes, textures and colours to optimise this learning process. Nursery and Reception children have a set menu offering a variety of Western and Asian dishes and receiving health morning and afternoon snacks.
