In 2007, Martin Dickie and James Watt, two friends from Aberdeenshire Scotland, were bored of the industrially brewed lagers and stuffy ales that dominated the UK beer market.  They decided the best way to fix this predicament was to brew their own.  So, along with their faithful companion, Bracken, they created BrewDog in 2007. Both only 24 at the time, they leased a building in Fraserburgh, got some scary bank loans, spent all their money on stainless steel and started making some hardcore craft beers. They brewed tiny batches, filled bottles by hand and sold their beers at local markets and out of the back of their beat-up old van. The biggest mission when they set up BrewDog was to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as they were. And that remains their mission today.  In 2013 (6 years later), they had opened 13 new bars, all in the UK.    Mike Ogunrinde and Bob Rothstein, two Brussels residents quite a bit older than James and Martin, felt that, despite the huge challenge, Belgium shouldn’t stay outside of this modern “craft beer revolution”.  In collaboration with James and Martin, they signed the first BrewDog bar licensing agreement.  However, Brussels being Brussels, it took two years to find the right place and get the right permits. By 2015, there were 44 BrewDog bars, including the first non-UK BrewDog , in Stockholm, and others in Japan and Brazil.  With the help of some amazing work by local craftsmen, with the support of close friends … and with some scary bank loans as well, Bob and Mike opened BrewDog Brussels, the first BrewDog in the Benelux, in September 2015.
