What’s The Difference? Why all the confusion?
Acute Allergies• Reaction Time
• A few minutes to 3 hours
• Symptoms• Can be life threatening• Can mimic infections• More obvious• Acute swelling• Hives• Throat Constriction• SOB• Wheezing, coughing, sneezing, runny nose• Increased heart rate
• Subacute
Delayed Allergies• Reaction Time
• 3 hours to 3 weeks
• Symptoms• Chronic inflammation
• Malaise, fatigue
• Hard to pinpoint with elimination diet
TRUE Vs. Acquired Allergies• Acquired allergies can occur due to a fundamental break down in the
immune system. This is often times the result of chronic illness, but can also be caused by intestinal hyperpermeability (AKA – Leaky Gut)
TRUE Allergies
• Are typically acute in nature –• Classic examples are shrimp, shellfish, peanut…
• Range in severity based on the immune health of the person
• Generally do not go away.
**There is no test that differentiates between an acquired vs. a TRUE allergy.
