VISUAL ARTS 08.-22.09 Exhibition “War from the Victims’ Perspective. Photographs by Jean Mohr“ in Nischni Novgorod An exhibition produced by the Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne, and the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs Upon the 150th anniversary of the ICRC and the First Ge-neva Convention, Switzerland – via its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in association with the Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne – produced an exhibition, War from the Vic-tims’ Perspective, Photographs by Jean Mohr, which will be opened in Nizhny Nowgorod Russian Photography Museum on the 8th of September 2015. Swiss photographer Jean Mohr (1925) appears today to be one of those best placed to address this subject. His reportages are the result of decades of experience, which saw an ICRC and UNRWA (United Nations Relief and

The exhibition addresses the issues of victims of conflicts, refugees and communities suffering from war and still under potential threat. It focuses on the emblematic cases of Palestine, Cyprus, and Africa. Other examples illustrate the universal problems of populations directly or indirectly enduring re-percussions of war (in Iran, Pakistan, Nicaragua…). Focusing upon these three geographical regions presents the problem of war victims in an historical setting classified by themes “Portraits of Exile”, “The Children’s Diaspora”, “Temporary Landscapes”, and “Life Goes On”.

24.09 Video exhibition of Peter Aerschmann in Moscow PETER AERSCHMANN Video artist (1969, Bern, Switzerland)

Curators: Katya Bochavar, Marta Rukazenkova, Anna Fatyanova Exhibition opening 24th of September at 19.30 Exhibition space GROUND “Khodynka”. Event is under the Patronage of Swiss Embassy in Moscow. The Swiss video artist from Bern Peter Aerschmann collects short video sequences of daily life from all over the world, among them – isolating individual subjects. The artist stores these selections in a virtual archive. Figures and objects from the archive become the pro-tagonists of his art works. These simple, repetitive movements reveal something meditative, hypnotic and sometimes even absurd or funny. The subjects on Aerschmann’s virtual stage are reconfigured in new elaborate compositions. In these often interactive installations he illuminates particular topics and motifs. Thus, Aerschmann builds his own documental reali-ty. The artist challenges the audience’s usual understanding of time and space. His work serves as an instrument to rediscover the subtle events and moments that comprise daily exist-ence, in an effort to dismantle, and thereby understand, the complex system known as the world. Peter Aerschmann’s first solo exhibition in Moscow will take place from the 24th of Septem-ber until the 18th of October 2015 at the art-center GROUND “Khodynka”. This exhibition forms part of the series of culture events “BernMoscow”, organized by the association for cultural exchange Artistaround.ch.

MUSIC

14.-18.09 Authentic Light Orchestra: concerts in Moscow and Rostov-na-Donu Authentic Light Orchestra was founded by multi-instrumentalist Valeri Tolstov in 2009 with an idea to combine different musical genres such as jazz, rock, elements of eastern folk, mod-ern classics and live electronic. There is no special accent separately emphasizing any of the above mentioned genres which are harmonically supplementing each other by this pro-ducing a unique sound and original interpretation of Armenian folk.

The main inspiration and incentive of musicians of the Authentic Light Orchestra are the creation of a fresh view on folklore music with the aim to find a new musical language or a new sound specific to the band.
