We really need your help!We don’t think this is a problem we can

tackle alone, nor do we want to be the

only ones trying to help youth with

these issues. That's why we need you!

Hopefully you are still able to assist us

in making this a reality in whatever way

you can and we really appreciate your

taking the time you have already taken.

With these issues in the headlines in

recent weeks, we have a feeling that

We are rather out of our depths with

this and have been trying to get in

contact with Tori McCauley, the 13 year

old on Close Up the same day as our

launch as I think she could defiantly

help and was incredibly articulate! ;)

Plus with our “YouTube Booth”

out and about at various

events, we are hoping event

organisers can also assist with

additional prizes for top videos

of the day from each event. We

also have plans to implement

and facilitate a peer mentoring

type system using online tech-

nologies where these kids can

support and help one and

other. Combining this with a

training and mentoring type

program where teaching and

facilitating these messages

being deliver will be done in a

"Pay It Forward" or "Crowd-

Sourcing" fashion to help us

spread the message. We also

have intention to push the viral

YouTube video edits submitted

for prizes to the mainstream

media channels where we will

pressure them for airtime to

build awareness of what is a

broader social problem.

We hope that Youth Week 2012

will see us enjoying what we

hope to be much greater aware-

ness of these issues, as we put

Youth (Week) Event in 2012.

We have not yet secured the

required financial sponsorship

to fully support our plans and

intentions, however we haveseen great support from the

"social media" engaged brands

to help us make this a reality.

Already we have had prizes and

support offered but no where

near the amount we will require

to pull this off.

The recent publicity of cases the

likes of Natalia Burgess, dubbed

the “Facebook stalker” continue

to bring attention to these risks.  And with at least 3 reports of

kids taking their own lives after

being victims of cyber bullying,

the 13 year old on National TV

speaking out about bullying in

our schools and meeting with

John Key is not even old

enough to know what the "Y2K

Bug". Those of us old enough to

remember the dawn of the new

millennium , can understand the

significance of not knowing a

world without the internet! For

everyone to be reminded, we

wrote and have been recording

the following script:

Campaign Launch for Youth Week, 2011

We are hoping to be

able to run this #BeNiceOnline

YouTube awareness building

campaign for between a six and

twelve month period.

We will feature weekly compe-

titions and prizes awarded for

week’s top video capturing the

“Be Nice Online" message.

Monthly prize packs for the best

video edit of the month that

represents our campaign script

and message.

We did experience our fair shareof glitches with our rushed

launch last week, (includingmissing a lot of a school trafficwith a late set up) but we stillmanaged to engage a few of thelocal kids in the community, withroughly 5 or 6 of them startingfrom start to end.

With a range of people willingto get in front of the camera andoverall we had relatively highengagement with a slightlysmaller than .anticipated audi-ence. Luckily enough for us, the

ICE box, Jane from Massey

Community Centre, Sam fromDiesel Phoenix, Richard fromMr Whippy, the Red Bull girls(sorry no names!), the teamfrom PDF2Print, Mike fromBurger Fuel Lincoln Road, Andy from Social Safe & too many others to list here.... !

Minister Paula Bennett

stopped in and even recordeda short clip for us which we

added to our campaign mix

We could not have done it

Social Media…It’s <ur take>

The Internet made the world

different. And technology has

changed the way we’re interacting…

But at the end of the day… Its still,

just about talking. So whether it’sonline or off, speak to people with

respect, don’t say things you don’t

mean and treat others the way you

would like to be treated. When you

see someone getting picked on,

have the courage to say some-

thing… And remember, in the

online world… things are not always

as they seem. So… Stop and

Think… Cause once you click, you

lose control.

Help us to Share the message

and let’s show others how to beSweet As with Social Media!

What we learnt last time… “YouTube Booth” Concept

Further Corporate Sponsorship required?

Watchdog: Bullied kids'

parents left in dark

By Vaimoana Tapaleao

Schools do not have to tellparents if their child has beena victim of bullying - some-thing the Human Rights Com-mission wants changed.

Chief Commissioner RosslynNoonan has criticised the ideathat Ministry of Educationguidelines indicate schoolsare not required to pass suchinformation on to parents.

But a school is required tonotify the parents of the bul-lies.

In an article by Ms Noonan intoday's Herald , she says thecommission has receivedmany complaints from par-ents of bullying victims.

NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 2011NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 2011NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 2011NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 2011

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/

We had our launch event, trial run for our “YouTube Booth”

and Youth Week ‘CelebrateTechnology’ event on Friday 27th May.

We had the Wii projectinggames onto the Community Hall wall, the YouTube Booth in the sideroom, Sam from Diesel Phoenix brought down his guitar and treated us to some acoustic and Mr Whippy and the Red Bull Girlscame down in support and evendid a video for us each!!

But as with all “firsts”, the les-

sons and mistakes give consider-able opportunity for learning!

Here's some of ours…

•Young girls were much more

willing to share than boys…

• Always have your projector going!

It makes all the difference for kids

to then get to see themselves on

the channel instantly.

•Different people would prefer the

booth over talking face to camera

with nothing to hide behind!

Others would prefer having

costumes and props helpful to

getting in front of the camera…

•The whole script is too long for

people to read the whole thing

through at events, the call out

cards should be used instead

with different filler lines… The

kids seemed to prefer the ones

that posed a question, like the

‘bystanders can make all the

difference, will you?’

•The Introduction aspect needs

to be made explicit, only a few

people introduced them-selves…

•More interaction with their

stories and content, need to

explicitly ask questions maybe,

even have cue cards for booth

operator?

*we had a wee glitch with the

printers, in the end, we probably

missed a fair majority of themajor school rush of kids as we

were not set up enough to

capture the main rush of them,

however, in our busiest mo-

ments, we were rather inun-

dated so it was fairly clear we

needed more “booth operator

support” and also potentially

another recording device to

interact with people not wanting

to go into the booth so much..

capture some of the gold in the

“saw dust” of prior conversa-tions where we were often

engaging people in the concepts

but not able to

draw them in front

of the camera…

As it is our intention to hopefully take this campaign to a national level and run it throughout the

various schools and youth groups some of whom have already expressed interest, we are going to

really need help. We have worked out that we can be eligible for the WINZ grant to hire and train

youth that have been on the unemployment benefit for more than 3 months, so the $5000 they

grant would almost cover the cost of labour, but as a NFP, this is not an arena we’re familiar with-

we assume that approaching a corporate sponsor for financial backing is our best bet we really

need help with this one, your feedback and suggestions only, which are invaluable to us!
