The AIRTRACER Airborne Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) System is used for strategic andtactical gathering of emissions in the Radar and Communications frequency bands.

AIRTRACER can be installed on a high-performance, long endurance aircraft such asthe Saab 2000 or on any s uitable aircraft. A roll-on/roll-off version called AIRTRACER Flexallows the Mission System Equipment to be installed on larger transport aircraft.

AIRTRACER FLEX is a exible conguration that allows transport aircraft such as theC-130 to carry SIGINT mission system equipment, but also still be used for the transportrole, should it be required. Antennas are permanently installed while the crew cabin isused in a roll-on/roll-off fashion.

    AIRTRACER FLEX

The AIRTRACER Airborne SIGINT system is supported by a training and simulationsystem that enables airborne SIGINT operators to be trained on the ground.Software simulators generate realistic signal scenarios and the operators performlife-like missions.

    REAL-TIMESIGNAL INTELLIGENCE

    SAAB 2000 AIRTRACER SYSTEM LAYOUT

    SYSTEMPERFORMANCE

    DENSE ENVIRONMENT

Te Radar and Communications signal environment increases indensity as new technologies emerge. Extracting intelligence using

an airborne SIGIN system such as AIR RACER, places highdemands on processing abilities. Large amounts o data need tobe evaluated, ltered and stored in-real time. Tis requires manyprocesses to be per ormed automatically.

Flying at high altitude, AIR RACER covers a much larger areathan conventional ground based sensors can. Te coverage is onlylimited by the radio horizon which at an altitude o 30,000 eet isaround 390 km or emitters on the ground. Intercept range towardsairborne targets could be urther depending on the requency ooperation and the antennas used by the emitter.

Te AIR RACER airborne SIGIN system provides a solutionor these requirements in an integrated manner and the outputresults in a consolidated Electronic Order o Battle (EOB) view thatincludes results rom ESM/ELIN and COMIN sensors.

Te advantage o having a moving plat orm is that geo-locationcan be per ormed rom a single sensor by taking measurementsover time.

Co-operative geo-location can also be per ormed by taskingdifferent aircraf to per orm measurements on the same emitterat the same time and then exchanging the results via the askingand Reporting System.

Over a period o time, the COMIN and ELIN gathering willincrease the knowledge o networks and the workload o operatorswill change rom time consuming intelligence tasks to surveillanceo known targets. Te changes in the behavior o known emitterswill be detected rapidly thus giving more time or decision makingand actions.

    INTELLIGENCE CYCLE

Te AIR RACER airborne SIGIN system addresses all the aspectso the intelligence cycle.

Te cycle is supported by a SIGIN Analysis and Control Centre(SACC) which orms the ground segment o AIR RACER.

Te mission planning, mission control, mission updates, post-mission analysis and compilation o SIGIN reports are per ormedat the SACC and reported to other intelligence agencies.

    FLEXIBLE AND SCALABLE

Operational applications such as Airborne Early Warning andControl (AEW&C), Maritime Patrol Aircraf (MPA), Mult-MissionAircraf (MMA) and dedicated SIGIN aircraf each place theirown unique requirements on SIGIN systems.

Te AIR RACER amily o systems has been designed with scal-ability in mind and this allows different congurations to be offeredor each o the applications.

AIRTRACER is used or dedicated SIGIN roles and includesadditional channels and increased recording capabilities whichenables extended off-line analysis to be per ormed.

AIRTRACER Compact can be installed as an add-on to special

mission aircraf or or dedicated SIGIN roles. AIRTRACER Lite can be installed on smaller aircraf or as an

add-on to special mission aircraf where SIGIN can be used tosupport the classication o targets.

AIRTRACER Flex is a conguration where the mission systemequipment is installed in a roll-in/roll-out crew cabin thereby al-lowing the aircraf to also per orm other roles such as transport.

Te airborne segment makes use o Multi-Function Consoles MFCs)that allows the resources or each mission to be scaled. Tis means thati more COMIN operators are required, the number o ESM/ELINoperators can be scaled down or that specic mission and vice versa.

Te SACC ground segment can be scaled to match each o thedifferent applications o the airborne segments.
