A LEGAcy Of INNOvATION / Parsons has been a pioneer in art and design education since its founding in 1896, championing new movements and teaching methods that have shaped generations of artists, designers, scholars, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. Because Parsons is part of The New School, a progressive urban university, you can take liberal arts and sciences courses to strengthen your work and combine academic knowledge with social activism. Majors at Parsons are grouped into the following five schools:
If you have decided on an undergraduate education at Parsons The New School for Design, you will be joining a community of like-minded individuals who believe that art and design can help the world solve complex problems. Become part of a major urban center where creative work feeds the city’s economic and cultural life and brings communities together.
This organizational structure supports Parsons’ educational mission and builds community among students and faculty in related disciplines.
STUDENTS & fAcULTy
ThE cAMPUS / New york city frames every aspect of your Parsons education—from field trips and projects focusing on sustainability and the urban experience to internships and other work outside the classroom. Situated in Greenwich village, in the heart of Manhattan, Parsons offers students the opportunity to live, work, and create in one of the world’s great cities.
STUDENT hOUSING / housing is guaranteed for freshmen; 90 percent of first-year students live in one of our five dorms, located in Greenwich village, close to campus and to Union Square, Astor Place, and washington Square Park.
DIvERSITy AND PARSONS / The Parsons community is diverse and reflects a broad range of experiences, identities, cultures, and beliefs. cultivating a learning environment where all can thrive requires respect and an understanding of the social, political, and economic contexts in which we learn and create. Parsons seeks to prepare tomorrow’s designers to devise innovative, thoughtful, and effective responses to social inequities. This effort relies on the contributions of people who have been historically underrepresented in higher education. Parsons is committed to achieving greater diversity at The New School and is making institutional changes to reach that goal. Learn more at www.newschool.edu/parsons-diversity.
