Dry conditions in eastern Australia, specifically Queensland and northern New South Wales dramatically reduced crop yields and tonnages. However, Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria enjoyed a good season, despite some areas of frost in the south eastern states. Queensland and New South Wales have continued to experience dry conditions into February and this appears set to continue. As a result, the area planted to these summer crops is expected to fall significantly, with sorghum planting expected to be down by more than 20%. Competition from east coast domestic users, especially feed lots, is also making it harder for exporters to source grain. Currently, whilst there is considerable tonnage stored on farms, some growers are holding onto their grain in the hope that prices continue to rise. TRADE SERVICES

Backed by our fully accredited laboratory, the trade services team provides certification, verification, and inspection services for all bulk and containerised agricultural commodities, including grain, oils and fats, meal, meat, wool, cotton, tallow, woodchips, logs and biomass pellets.

Our comprehensive network of inspectors operates in all the agricultural growing regions and is well placed to provide independent certification and verification of all agricultural produce.

The unit also conducts sustainability certification (ISCC and 2BSvs) for Australian grains and oil being exported to Europe, physical stock verification services for traders and banks as well as Identity Preservation (IP) programs
