All school readers are levelled from Level 1 through to Level 31+ and have been developed using decades of educational experience. Recognising that the best outcomes are achieved when students continue reading at home, your child can use their login details received at school, to complete readers set by their classroom teacher, at home. Thanks to all those families who have already sent in donations for our Easter Raffle baskets. If you haven't sent in your donations yet, please do so by Friday 31 March. We will be sending home a book of raffle tickets with the youngest child in each family this week. Please sell the tickets to friends, family and neighbours - there will be lots of lovely baskets full of Easter goodies to be won!

The canteen will be selling special recess treats tomorrow to celebrate Harmony Day. A massive thank you to Paula Egan, our amazing canteen manager, for preparing these treats even though she is very busy! Paula is still looking for more volunteers to help her in the canteen. You don't need any experience and any help would be most gratefully received.

Two of our uniform shop volunteers have resigned due to work commitments. We desperately need some more volunteers to help in the uniform shop on Friday mornings from 8.30-10am. Unfortunately if we don't get some more volunteers by the end of the term we will have to reduce our opening times next term. With the volunteers we currently have, we will not be able to open the uniform shop every week - we may only be able to open once a month. Please contact Julie Hale on 0407885303 if you can help!

Save the date! We will be holding a Family Bingo night at the Davo at 6pm on Friday 16th June. It promises to be a great night out for the whole family and will help us raise funds for our school. More details to follow closer to the time.

INTRODUCING TO YOU! Brisbania Public School

Wellbeing Policy, 2017

HEALTH CARE POLICY & PROCEDURES

Health care policy and procedures at Brisbania Public School are informed by DoE policy.

Parents have the primary responsibility for the health of the children. School staff members have a duty to keep

students safe while they are at school or are involved in school activities. The school encourages parents to

provide information about their children’s health both on enrolment and on an ongoing basis. When students need

help with health issues at school, parents may need to consult with their medical practitioner about the implications

of the child’s health condition for their schooling. Parents need to convey relevant information from the medical

practitioner to the school.

The school will arrange support for students to have their health needs met so that they can participate in their

learning program. Refusing enrolment or continued access to education because of a need to administer

prescribed medication and/or health care procedures other than in circumstances where there is unresolvable

safety issues would be to unlawfully discriminate against the student on the ground of his or her disability. When

student’s health support needs are more complex or sensitive, a written individual health care plan is required.

Parents need to provide prescribed medication or other consumables as agreed with the school before the plan

commences.

An Individual Health Care plan must be developed for:

severe asthma, type 1 diabetes, epilepsy and anaphylaxis

any student who is diagnosed as being at risk of an emergency reaction

any student who requires the administration of health care procedures

Care of Students Who Become Unwell at School

Students who become unwell at school are best transferred to the care of a parent or caregiver. The aim of care

provided at school for such students is to make them comfortable in the interim. The school has identified staff

members who will care for students who are unwell and the procedures that are to be followed. Parents are asked

to ensure their contact numbers and emergency contact numbers are always current to assist the school in

contacting them immediately if needed.

Administering Prescribed Medication at School

Parents are asked to liaise with their doctor to request prescribed medication that can be administered outside

school hours if possible. When a medical practitioner has prescribed medication that must be administered during

the school day, parents are responsible for:

bringing this need to the attention of the school

ensuring that the information is updated if it changes

providing the clearly labelled medication and instructions from the doctor for administration
