in May. He made it to the Semifinals. The top 8 boys and girls from the state will advance to the Southern Boys and Girls 14 Closed Championships. We

wish Joshua lots of luck! As for Joshua’s biggest win, it came in the Alabama State Boys 12 closed tournament last year. When Joshua is off the court he enjoys playing the guitar and listening to old albums. His

favorite group is Led Zeppe-lin. He also enjoys eating Mexican food with his family.

Our junior player of the quarter is Joshua Martin. He is the son of James and Johanna Martin. Joshua is 13 years old and just fin-ished the 7th grade at Grace Christian Academy. He started playing tennis when was 9 years old and was proud to say that his dad was his first coach. He is now playing out of Peninsula on the Tournament Players Group, and is coached by Eph Walker. At the time of the interview, Josh was preparing for a tournament

THE RALLY

It is Hot this Summer. Hydrate your body by

drinking plenty of liquids before going out to play tennis or other sports.

She takes lessons from various teach-ing pros in the area. She currently plays on Flight 8 (GPTL) in Orange Beach and is having a great time doing

it. She believes that you don’t have to be the best player out there to have fun. She also be-lieves that this is one of the happiest, friendliest places on Earth. She is very thankful for the hard work of Rhett and D.D. and the beautiful facility that we are so fortunate to call our

own.

Our women’s player of the quarter is Carol Adams. She retired in 1994 and moved to our area from Birming-ham with her husband of 33 years, Frank. In the past she has been involved with various volunteer or-ganizations such as The Friends of the Library, The Investment Club and The Garden Club. One day she decided that was not enough and decided to take up the game of tennis. She began taking les-sons and played on a team on Ono Island. Carol Adams

Pro Tip from Rhett Russell: TENNIS IS A MOVING EXPERIENCE

On average, C players (2.0 and 2.5 NTRP) move their feet 2-4 steps in between shots. B players (3.0 and 3.5 NTRP) move their feet 4-6 steps in between shots. A players (4.0 and 4.5 NTRP) usually average 6-8 steps in between shots. Top level college players take 8-10 steps. ATP and WTA players average 10-12 steps in between shots. By improving your foot movement, you will become a better, more active, and more aggressive tennis player on the court.

In order to be a good tennis player, you must be able to move your feet. Whether playing singles or doubles, good foot work is crucial to get to where you need to be positioned on the court, to get to the ball, alleviate nerves, and to make slight adjustments for balancing before you hit the ball.

USTA Rule of Tennis: Calling a “Let” Who may call a let? Only a player may call a let on their own court.

The Coman tiebreak is identical to the regular tiebreak except that the players change ends after the 1st point and then after every 4 points. Switch sides after points, 1, 5, 9, 13, 17…… In doubles, the server will always serve from the same end of the court.
